April Virex Definitions - Don't let your Mac catch
the crud. April Virex virus definitions are now available
for download.
Pick them up right away!
Fools of April - Along with the ushering in of April
Fool's Day came the usual Fools Day pranks. Among the community
were some rather spiffy pranks from sites such as DV
Graphics, Pixel Jerk
and ResExcellence.
Our personal favorite was the "New" site design from
Pixel Jerk. If you hurry
over to these sites, you may still get a glimpse of the hilarities!
Check 'em out!
New Monkie Stuff - Be sure to stop back on Wednesday
for some cool new Monkie pics as well as the fine artistry of
Neil Roberts. Along with the GUI you can grab your weekly dose
of crazy antics right here at MacMonkies!
Rest of the Mac Web Survey
- There's one week left to vote for your favorite Mac leftovers
at the Rest
of the Mac Web Survey! Scoot on over and toss a vote for
your favorite Mac sites. Us? Why of course! We'll gladly accept
your vote of approval!
April 1, 2002
April Fools! - The fools of April, er...I guess that
would be the April Fools of ResExcellence
are up to their "out there" antics. The ResEx
workers got stiffed by their "faithful" boss with some
rather rubber checks and had the Boss man "suspended"
from accessing his own server.
An eye for an eye, right?
Boss man has old fashioned "Dead or Alive" mug shots
put out for his bunch of bandwidth bandits! So, the joke's on
them. Or is it the Boss? Or maybe it's on you! Best hurry
over to the show and see what's going on before the scenes really
change!
Pixelpalooza Deadline - If you want to enter The
Iconfactory's 6th annual Pixelpalooza
icon designing contest, you must have your entries in today by
Noon EST. Don't dally. Do It!

With the click of your mouse, Watson let's you check the
latest movies showing in your area, find phone numbers,
check flights, and even check your local TV schedule! Kara says
of this amazing app:
I love love love this program!
Guess you can't get much of a better rating than that!
So what you gonna do? The answer is quite clear my dear Watson:
Get your Monkie Buns over to Karelia
and check it out!
Rest of the Mac Web Survey - Oh sheesh! Do you ever

has now been updated. Sorry about that!
Thanks for stopping by!

Afternoon Edition 3:07 PM MST
Software News Flash! - MacMonkies'
Software Junkie Kara Kelly tips us off to the FREE registrations to Sticky
Brain available from Chronos
Software today and tomorrow ONLY! Don't miss your
chance to receive your FREE copy and registration of the "personal
productivity application that incorporates a sticky note interface"
for Mac OS8, 9, and X. Hurry!
Editors Note: When downloading the app, you may want to
choose the following links from Tucows - Classic
or OSX.
MonkieNews! - Woo Hoo! Just got back from the zoo!
Not really, but it sounded good. And how does a New Look
and other goodies sound to you? Let's dive in and see what this
week offers!
- Site Monkie Tuck - As you can probably already see,
(if not, just click
here and compare) we are in the process of giving ye old
Monkie den some tweaks and tucks as to debug (adding flea collars)
and beautify this Monk yard! So far we have put up a new Logo,
tweaked the background a Monkie hair optimized some graphics
for faster loading and a variety of minor tails of de
for overall better viewing. We are by no means finished as we
have some kewl beans lined up still. We hope you like so far!
Things are going well so far, but please bear with us through
this time of transition. Thanks for your patience!
- In the Gallery! - We have some fine works in the Gallery this from our latest contributor
Neil Roberts as well as "veterans" Alan Sherwood
and Ed Allen! And..Oh Yeah! There's some Monkie peels
from the boss man too!
Desktop hors d'oeuvres -
Okay. So they are not that tasty! But hors d'oeuvres
are served as appetizers and these Monkie Morsels do just
that!
First we have the usual clowning around from Mr. Monk
called Blue Clown (ain't that an
oxymoron).
Right behind this sad goof comes Apple
Rulze II. This hot little number was the first of the pair,
but oh, what the heck! Me Monkie Majesty officially dubs thee
number deuce!
And finally from Mr. Monk is an odd fellow called ink blot. You and your therapist can
argue over that one! =)
3 Dimension Intentions - And
first up to bat in the 3-D Area is In Place by Ed Allen of EA
Design. This fine piece would find a nice place right
square on your desktop.
From Alan Sherwood, also of EA
Design, comes a powerful work titled Orders.
Be sure to check out this and other fine pieces from both Alan
and Ed at EA Design!
For all you takers of 2001: A Space Odyssey, here's
a bit of a twist called What's Up Hal?
Last on the list, but certainly not least, is a bit
of doom from a "dark period" by Neil Roberts called
Adagio.
Update - I was so busy
scrambling around the Monkie peels that I forgot to mention the
pic Miracle Mile! Hope you like this
landscape for your desktop!
Gentlemen -
Ten toes up for this week's
fine selection of work!
- Barefoot Beta - We will be updating our new Digital
Audio Beta Testing Site - Barefoot
Monkies - with some sounds and additional music rather soon.
If you are interested in helping us with this project and need
info, CLICK HERE!
Thanks!
- The Rest of
the Mac Web Survey - MacMonkies is back in
the Polls! Low End Mac has
launched the second semi-annual Rest
of the Mac Web Survey. Yup! You guessed it - MacMonkies
is on the list. This twice-a-year survey gives you the opportunity
to rate the Mac sites you're most familiar with.
If you like what you have seen here at MacMonkies,
we encourage you to toss a vote in our direction! CLICK
HERE to cast your vote and be sure to check out the rest
of Low End Mac's Site!?
- New Zounds! - New songs and sounds are
coming soon to Barefoot
Monkies. We'll keep you posted!
Ethereal Creations - Ethereal
Creations is proud to announce the release of two stunning
new desktops. One is an accurate Biblical scene appropriate for
the upcoming Easter holiday and the other is a very cool abstract.
Four older images have also been revised and there's a new article
posted in The
View From Here. On top of all these goodies, Mr. Moraitis
has also done a bit of Ethereal tweaking. Stop by and have a
look!!
IHeartNY: Xicons! - Not only has Matthew Bice polished
up the already clean and crisp site at IHeartNY:
Xicons, but now he has added a tasty new set of icons to
his already spiffy collection called The Village Radio.
These are finger lickin' good!
New Themes for OSX - The good folks over at XThemination
just keep pumping out the GUI with 2 new themes for OSX called
SimpleX 1.5 Silver and SimpleX 1.5 Orange.
Take a trip to their Theme
page and give your appearance a brand new look!
Blue Sky Heart - Boy! Talk about all things GUI! Master
of everything shiny, Layne Karkruff comes out with another
awesome set of icons that practically glow in the dark! This
new set is called Alienicons and is with well worth stopping
by Blue Sky Heart
to check out this new set and the other GUI goodies on hand!
Electric Blue! - Xicons
has an electrifying new set of icons by Tony
Hart called Limewire. Get these icons and get plugged
in!
Flax Creations - Hmmm. Me smells it in the air around
the workshop at Flax
Creations. The smell of fine icon craftsmanship is about.
But where would these fine critters be? Stay tuned...
Pixelpalooza 2002 - The timeline is growing short
to get your best icons to The
Iconfactory's 6th Annual Pixelpalooza
icon designing contest. There is less than one week left! They
will be accepting entries up through April 1, 2002. Hurry up!
Also in Iconfactory
news, they are "Moving, Moving Moving" into a bigger
bigger building! Check out their Scapbook and see the differences
- New
and Old!
they hope to be in their new location by May 1st. Good Luck!
Check It Out!
Hoppy Birthday! -The popular new Mac operating system
turned one year old on March
24, 2002. That's right, it was just one year ago when the brave
pioneer bunnies were trying out Mac OS X 10.0 and tossing out
the rotten eggs (boy howdy) while the rest of us waited around
for Mac OS X 10.1. Mac OS X 10.0 went on sale at midnight, March
24, 2001. Mac OS X 10.1 was up and hopping six months later,
and now the OS is set as the default operating system on all
new Macs that are shipped. Hoppy Birthday, Mac OS X! - from MacMinute
Not Him AGAIN! - A Bill Clinton computer virus has started
hopping around on the net through an email with the subject "bill
caricature." When run, the carrot attached (cari.scr) starts
a screensaver that shows Bill Clinton playing a saxophone which
emerges bunny ears that closely resemble a bra. While the screensaver
plays, the virus delivers this same Basket full of surprises
to persons in the user's Outlook address book. If played between
eight and nine in the morning, the virus may also delete files
with the extensions .SYS, .VXD, .OCX, and .NLS. The virus, Caric-A,
does not effect Mac or Linux users. Got Mac?
- from The
Register
It's A Girl Thing - A new after-school club has started
in Madison Wisconsin to
help girls feel more confident on computers. A chick named
Susannah Camic felt frustrated with boys hogging the machines
and wrote an essay about it. This sparked the beginning of the
Lilith Computer Group, a computer club for girls. In the club,
the girls choose which carrots they would like to try, such as
experimenting with digital cameras and making iMovies and business
cards. The club has helped improve the girls' grades as well
as their confidence on computers. Says Jill Olsen, head bunny
of one of the clubs, "Now, girls have the same 'eggspertise'
and confidence as the boys." BeanHead
says, "Sign Me Up! Oh, wait...I am not in school anymore!"
- from Wired
Tears In Heaven - It was this month in 1991 that Eric
Clapton's son Conor tragically fell to his death. Clapton penned
the tune "Tears In Heaven" as a result of his loss.
- from Musician's
Friend
Free E-Mail With A Price - What once was free must go
down! Yahoo will begin charging users for POP3 services and also
to forward email. Yahoo says they are charging so they can provide
better services and decrease "spam," but some think
it is because Yahoo lost $92.8 million last year. Users have
to decide by April 24 if they are going to pay the eggspense
for this basket full of services. The cost will be $29.99 a year,
and $19.99 for current users. - from The
Register
Hackers Delight - White Hat Technologies, a security firm
in Denver, is planning to offer a computer camp to teenagers in the summer of 2003. They have
been refering to the camp as "Hacker Summer Camp,"
but have climbed back in the rabbit hole because of the bad light
the media has shed on the word "hack." According to
the firm, the camp curriculum basket would be filled with ethics
and hacking viewed as "an honorable activity carried out
by the obsessively computer-curious." But since the term
"hacking" has come to be understood to mean illegally
breaking into computer systems, the camp is now un-named. Parents
have tossed up carrots on whether the camp would be good for
the teens or not. What the HACK! Send them
anyway! - from Wired
Sober Survey - An England survey has revealed that talking
on the cell phone while delivering Easter baskets is more dangerous
than driving under the influence of carrot juice. The survey found that the reaction time
of bunnies was 30 percent slower when talking on the phone compared
to when drinking carrot juice. The survey also found that four
out of ten bunnies admit to talking on the phone while driving.
"In effect," says Dominic Burch of Direct Line Insurance,
"this means that 10 million 'bunnies' are partaking in 'an
activity' that is potentially more dangerous than being drunk
'on carrot juice'." He also adds, "Eventually we would
like to see the use of mobile phones when delivering Easter baskets,
both hands-held and hands-free, become as socially unacceptable
as drunk driving."- from The
Register
Editor's Note: Me thinks our News Bunny Bean Head has too
many Easter eggs on the brain this week. Ya think?
Have you Heard?
Shhhh! - This is certainly one of the most quiet periods
for the latest buzz on up-and-coming Apple products and events.
So much so that the amount of "hush" has many believing
that the next Macworld Expo could have many wonderful things
in store!
This time last year everyone was so excited (well) about the
release of OSX that people just couldn't wait to get their hands
on (boy, I shoulda).
This year we get the wonderful news that iMac prices have
gone up $100 straight across the board. It's a beautiful day
in the neighborhood. We'll keep the light on for ya...if we can
find the switch.
Feel free to drop
us a line if you have any information regarding any Mac info!

Useless Mac Tip #2 - Did you know that on most machines
in Mac OSX, that if you go to "About This Mac," then
click on the Version number (i.e. Version 10.1.3) it will display
the Build (i.e. SQ45) and then if you click again it will display
your serial number? WOW! Isn't that spiffy?! We will post
a pic at a later time.
Software News - Our current Software Junkie (that's
software specialist in Monkie terms) Kara Kelly, informs us that
Macromedia
Flash MX 6.0 is pretty spiffy indeed. Kara reports
that with the little "dabbling" she's done so far,
she finds the OSX version "fast and stable and it's just
as good as the OS 9 version!!"

Q: What's invisible and smells like carrots???
A: Bunny farts!

WORDS OF WISDOM
Learn from the past.

ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL
In a world without walls or fences, who needs windows or gates?
IT CAN'T BE DONE
Q. How many computer programmers does it take to change a
light bulb?
A. They can't do it, it's a hardware problem.
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR
Once the nose ring fitted into his nose, the man was asked
how much he paid.
"I paid through the nose!" he replied.
FISH OUT OF WATER
A fish walks into a bar, the bartender asks, "What would
you like?"
The fish says holding his neck, "Water."
HE AIN'T HEAVY - HE'S JUST OLDER
We all get heavier as we get older because there's a lot more
information in our heads.

Odds and Ends
JUST A MINUTE!
It takes less than a minute...
Work this out as you read.
- Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it
out! This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.
- First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would
like to have chocolate. (try for more than once but less than
10)
- Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be bold)
- Add 5. (for Sunday)
- Multiply it by 50 I'll wait while you get the calculator..
- If you have already had your birthday this year add 1752...
If you haven't, add 1751 ...
- Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.
You should have a three digit number ...
The first digit of this was your original number
(i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).
The next two numbers are ...
YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it IS!!!!!)
THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2002) IT WILL EVER WORK.
the Bottom Line
(What more did you expect?! )
