iTools Update - We mentioned
on Wednesday, May 22, that Apple
had been suspending iTools accounts due to excessive bandwidth
usage. However no one was sure exactly what that limit was. Cletus,
software editor of ResExcellence,
noted on Friday that MacInTouch
posted a notice from Apple with specific details
regarding the bandwidth limitations. Click
here for further details.
Be Good! - Remember to have plenty of fun this Memorial
Day weekend. But don't monkey around while on the highway or

source has informed MacMonkies that the best GUI spot
on the planet is itching to make a return. That's right! You
can look forward to Rampant
Mac "resurfacing with a
slightly new face" sometime midsummer. The definite date
is still uncertain, but it will be well worth the wait! We'll
keep ya posted!

Felt Tip Fix: Copy-Protection - People on Internet news groups
have found a way to deactivate Sony copy-protected CDs. All one
has to do is scribble "around the rim of a disk with a felt-tip
marker." Reuters reports that they tried this with the new
Celine Dion CD that has been stopping up iMacs and it worked
like a charm. They were able to play the CD as well as copy it
to the hard drive. Sony was reluctant to offer a comment. - from Yahoo
MonkieNews!
The Six Minus One Icon Edition
- Yes, we agree! That's a pretty lame way to title a tie-in
for our Sixth Icon Edition! One thing is certainly not
lame, and that is this week's "nothing but the best"
selection of Icons from some of the web's finest! Let's take
a look!
Eye9design? - Sir Patrick O'Kelly of the amazing Eye9design
graces our Icon palace with another outstanding set named MercuryLensX2. Your i's won't
be disappointed with this cool set!
Pixel Jerk - If you're heavy into the "big"
text and spreadsheet app for OSX, then Pixel
Jerk's Samuel Krueger has just the number for you with his
icon rendition for Office!
Watch those icons shine!
DV Graphics - Paul Sahner
of DV Graphics is certainly
dedicated to sprucing up your Mac. If you can't afford one of
Apple's spiffy new iMacs, get the next best thing with his set
of iMac G4 icons! I see
your desktop smilin' already!
Happicon - Speaking
of smiles, Rene piles on plenty with those Crazy
Ones from the ever funtastic Happicon!
AH! Caught yer desktop smilin' already!
I Heart New York - Matthew Bice of IHeartNY
adds some of his creative best to the Icon palace with Dock Lawn Additions! If you haven't
already, check out IHeartNY
to see how to make your Dock into an IheartNY Dock Lawn!
Very cool!

a piece from our latest contributor Bob Spence! Let's dive into
the Gooo!
Delicious Desktops - Our latest contributor and author
of the wild and fun Windows 3.1 app for OSX, Bob
Spence, brings you this fine desktop "coating"
called Cashmere Candy!
From Hunter Peddicord
we bring you organics wired for sound with this wonderful work
titled Speaker 2.
And stirring up the eggcentric breakfast batter is a weird
and wild one from MacMonkies' desktop chef called Eleggtrixx One.
The Thrill of 3-D - Clear the way for mars
clear, an outstanding piece from Ms. Kara Kelly of Kara-Kelly.com. This one's
sure to make your desktop shine!
Alan Sherwood of EA Design
brings us his usual excellence in simplicity with another fine
piece titled Your Cage.
Speaking of simplicity, Mr. Wiles of the Monkie claim to...well,
madness if nothing else, brings us twin set of minimalist's delight
with Simpurplicity II and
Blue Sky Skandal!
And bringing up the Monkie rear is, once again, the Monkie
of Madness with quite the interesting piece - Out
of Nothing. Perhaps you'll find a strange Monkie hiding
in the trees!

News On The Net...
Eyes On The New iBook - On Monday, Apple released the
700 MHz iBook. According
to Greg Joswiak, a senior director for Apple, "the iBook
is our best selling consumer and education notebook ever."
The upgraded iBook has a new video-out port and is up to 35 percent
faster. There are three different selections to choose from,
one of which comes with a 14.1-inch display. To view all the
latest specs, click here.
Blockbuster Bloopers! - The popular movies Spiderman
and Star Wars might be
too popular for their own good. Star Wars fans have already
noticed 40 errors in the new movie Attack of the Clones,
one of which is a bite in an apple before it has been eaten.
While Star Wars fans are awake enough to notice all the
small details, the Spiderman movie actually left a man
asleep. Luis Guardia got locked in the movie theater and was
trapped until seven o'clock the morning after the show."
Sounds like he was really into the flick.
Yeah right! - from Ananova
and Excite
Mac OSX AOL: Aqua XP? - Though many in the Mac
community are reporting excitement over AOL's latest
version of their client software, those who are actually testing
the software aren't too thrilled. Though the latest beta version
does contain features included in the Windows counterpart and
has switched to the Netscape Gecko browser, this version has
a long ways to go. The current build is one of the buggiest AOL
has released. Perhaps the biggest beta tester complaint is the
"aquafied" Fischer-Price XP look that is "in the
spirit of Mac OS X." One tester summed up the latest release
in a word: "Yikes."
Unlikely Pair - U2 singer Bono and the Secretary of the
US Treasury, Paul O'Neill, have gone on a tour of Africa together.
After meeting a year ago, O'Neill was impressed with Bono's knowledge
of the poverty problems in Africa and decided to tour with Bono
to learn more about them. Bono is making an effort to convince
O'Neill that monies spent to help Africa are being put to good
use. The pair will tour four countries altogether, including
South Africa, Uganda and Ethiopia. - from
Yahoo
Whether To Feather - Scientists have begun breeding featherless
chickens in Israel. They
are hoping this will be more humane because chickens get very
hot, especially in countries with higher temperatures. Not only
would this be less torture for the chickens, but less mess for
the humans, since they won't have to pluck all the feathers when
cleaning the chickens. Not plucking the chickens would also save
money for processing plants, and meat from the chickens would
be of better quality because featherless chickens would tend
to be leaner. Talk about doin' the funky chicken!

Have you Heard?
iTool Rules - Is your band
wagon too big for iTools bandwidth policy? Many shareware and
personal sites on Apple's iTools have been recently suspended
for excessive bandwidth usage. However, no one as of yet seems
to know how much is too much! Some sites are claiming
very little to claims of up to 400 GB of traffic. You can read
more at MacInTouch
Reader Reports. Do you have a clue as to what the limit is?
Let us know!
Update May 26, 2002 -
details regarding iTools iDisk.
Moving Ahead - Of all the new features that those who
have been testing Jaguar have been buzzing about, there is one
that seems to have received little to no attention: the new Forward
button!
When navigating in the single window browser-like Finder mode,
this little button comes in very handy. It allows you to return
to a window you were just in, rather than having to click through
bunches of folders just to get back to one previous click away.
Hooray Apple!
Jaguar at MWNY? - The latest buzz word is suggesting
that Jaguar,
Code Name for Apple's latest version of OSX, could be out as
early as the Macworld Expo at New York this July. However, from
the lips of Steve Jobs, it will be out late this summer. Apple
usually schedules late summer releases from the end of August
to the mid part of September.

Hug Somebody Different! - In "normal" editions
of "Very Ape," we would hilite some place cool on the
Net to check out or something neato to fiddle with on your computer.
However, this week we thought we would bring you something a
bit different, continuing along the lines of our ever-ending
quest in "Making the Difference!"

INTERNET PARKING TICKET
Offender: You!
Date: (put date here)
Offense #4422089: in front of the computer TOO LONG!
Details of Offense : During our routine sweep of the
Internet we, the Internet Police, have discovered that you have
been on your chair in front of the computer TOO LONG!
You are HEREBY ORDERED to clean up that pile of cups, cans,
wrappers and papers on your desk (yes, we can see you - sit up
straight!) and after you have logged into the real world for
a minimum of ten minutes you may log back on to the Internet.
Failure to comply may result in loss of reality, carpal tunnel
syndrome, and the requirement of a larger chair.
The timer starts NOW! Get off your butt - you'll thank us
for it later.
BEYOND THE COMFORT ZONE
"I left Montreal heading toward Quebec city, when I decided
to stop at a comfort station. The first stall was occupied, so
I went into the second one. I was no sooner seated than I heard
a voice from the next stall:
"Hi, how are you doing?"
Well, I am not the type to chat with strangers in highway
comfort stations, and I really don't know quite what possessed
me, but anyway, I answered, a little embarrassed:
"Not bad."
And the stranger said: "And what are you up to?"
Talk about your dumb questions! I was really beginning to
think this was too weird! So I said:
"Well, just like you I'm driving east."
Then, I heard the stranger, all upset, say, "Look, I'll
call you back, there's some idiot in the next stall answering
all the questions I am asking you."
INSANITY CHECK (Part II)
How To Keep A Healthy Level Of Insanity
10. Sing along at the opera.
11. Go to a poetry recital and ask why the poems don't rhyme.
13. Put mosquito netting around your work area. Play a tape
of jungle sounds all day.
14. Five days in advance, tell your friends you can't attend
their party because you're not in the mood.
15. When the money comes out the ATM, scream: "I won!
I won! 3rd time this week!!"
16. When leaving the zoo, start running towards the parking
lot, yelling: "Run for your lives, they're loose!!"
18. Tell your children over dinner: "Due to the economy,
we are going to have to let one of you go."
And the final way to keep a healthy level of insanity:
19. Send this list to everyone in your address book, even
if they sent it to you or asked you not to send them stuff like
this.
Sounds like someone's 19th nervous breakdown
to me.
