All Those Years Ago: Technology Predictions - There's nothing like
a good old fashioned, in-your-face "I told you so!"
Unless, of course, you're the one being told so! Here are some
"open mouth, insert feet" predictions about the future
of technology from all those years ago:
This 'telephone'
has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means
of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us.

TNT: DYN-O-MITE TIPS
AND TRICKS
by Paul
Sahner
The (in)Complete
Guide to OS X Key Commands - The
Mac OS allows for many common actions to be executed by way of
the keyboard. These keystrokes are known as Key Commands. They
involve two or more keys being pressed at the same time. By being
familiar with Key Commands, the computer user can save time by
not having to "hunt down" the action in the Finder
or the Menu bar. Continued...
Mandolux - Time for Mando's weekly
recap of this week's desktop additions at Mandolux!
Mandolux has issued twelve new
desktops: five Feathers (nature), the last five of Boxa (abstract),
one Austere Petal (nature), and one Lincoln 2K2 (scenery/abstract).
You know the drill:
Put on a happy Mac face with a cool new desktop from Mandolux!
WTMISG
- Still brewin' up the new GUI is Yan Feng at Why
the Mac is so great.com. New in the galleries is X
immersion, a great new desktop to immerse and lose yourself
in this crazy X-travaganza! Check it out!

EA
Design -
It appears as though Alan hasn't been fired yet, as we are privileged
with some great new works from BOTH Ed and Alan over at the studios
of EA Design!
New to their collections are a total of 12 new works that grace
their 2-D and 3-D galleries. Alan is also taking suggestions
for a tentative up-and-coming icon project. No time like the
present to get yourself over to EA
Design and check out all of the latest. Go!
WTMISG - Newly added to the GUI
galleries of Why the
Mac is so great.com is a new desktop to dance to titled Dance
10.2. This cool new pic from Yan Feng is available for
your immediate attention. Grab a look!
Froggy's Songs
1.2 - Just
released from DanLab
Games is Froggy's
Songs 1.2. New in this version is a bug fix and compatibility
with Mac OSX 10.2 Jaguar. Froggy's Songs is an OSX game where
each Froggy has a different sound and position. The goal is to
match the sequence of Froggy's songs and movement, repeating
the patterns you see in the correct order. Version 1.2 is now
available for download at their website.
Toast
Titanium 5.2
- The 'official' release of Toast
Titanium 5.2 is now available for download.
The new version has many improvements including enhanced Quartz
text rendering through out the user interface and support for
OSX 10.2.x. Since the 'official' release and event last week
of it being "leaked
prematurely," there has been a number of questions and
issues surrounding the update. We suggest taking a trip over
to Version
Tracker and thoroughly reading the user comments and
suggestions before installing.
Monkie News:
New TNT!
- Be sure to stop back tomorrow for another edition of Paul Sahner's
popular TNT: DYN-O-MITE TIPS AND TRICKS.
In Friday's edition, Paul shows you the 'outs' with his (in)complete
list of useful Key Command shortcuts in OSX's Finder and Internet
Explorer. Take command of those keys with tomorrow's TNT!

At The Top
iPod
'Picks' McCartney Tracklist
- It was recently noted at Billboard.com
that all of the original
songs for Paul McCartney's up-and-coming live album -- Back
In the U.S. -- were stored on an iPod to assist in the album's
production. Producer/engineer Michael Brauer said, "I've
got all the original songs from the show on my iPod, so I'll
listen to it, asking myself, 'What were the elements that made
it so cool?' A classic is a classic -- you don't want to mess
with it." It is Brauer's goal to give the listener the feel
as though they were 10 - 15 rows back from the stage. The CD/DVD
is due out November 26. -
from Billboard
iPod Works with Linux - The iPod can
now be used with Linux through gnuPod 0.2. The software was released
under General Public License, but currently does not provide
peak performance. To make it work, you also need a FireWire card,
"the scripting language Perl (version 5.6), the Perl modules
MP3::Info, File::Copy, Unicode::String and XML::Parser, and a
'basic knowledge of the shell'." For more information, click
here.

25th Icon Edition!
- Lessee...For
50 you have Gold, then for 25 is Silver...Right? Ok. So it's
not been 25 YEARS, but it has been 25 weeks! Welcome to our Silver
Icon Edition! Cheesy? Yes. But not this great set of Icons. Let's
boogie!
Happicon - The second in a series
of 2, Rene from Happicon
presents Cute 202! Though
this happy set is but a slight variation from Cute
101, it is nonetheless a great set to make your desktop smile
SHINE!
miX
the piX
- You KNOW
you have the right equipment if you've got Hein's
Hardware 3.0. The miX
the piX pixel master Hein Mevissen adds just the right combination
of class and style formulating this cool set of classic Mac hardware.
Also adding flare
to the Mevissen collection is this fine set of DVD
Players. Perhaps Apple should consult with Hein when
choosing an icon set! =)
IHeartNY - Mr. Matthew Bice is back
with Adium Domo-Kun, another
cool icon set from the collections of IHeartNY!
This is a great set for use with Adium
Instant Messenger, the third party AIM chat client.
mac.axonz.com
- Wrapping
up this week's Silver Edition is Adrian "wOOge" Jean's
TriTanium Squared v2: HardDrivez!
This set includes over 20 stronger-than-steel beauts from the
class act collections of mac.axonz.com.

NEW! 9 New Desktops
In The Gallery -
This week's Desktop Edition includes some spectacular work, including
a "double shot" from Alan Sherwood and Bob Wiley, as
well as a piece from our latest contributor S. Stéphane
from Xiupe Créations!
Let's look!
3-D
Delectables -From
S. Stéphane comes a breath taking desktop titled Brume matinale, which translated
means Morning Fog. This beautiful piece is one of the many exceptional
works you will find at Xiupe
Créations.
Just like a radio
station playing the classics and the hits, we get to pull out
a classic from the cool collections of Rampant
Mac. Presenting, the all time favorite hit: Austra
Alien! This great work should be alien from no one's
desktop. Crank it up!
Loading up this
week's first "double shot" is EA
Design's Alan Sherwood. First in the line up is Conform
(A Loss), which seems to indicate the loss of individuality
when adhering to conformity.
Next out of the
barrel, Hideaway demonstrates
Alan's endless amount of creativity. Apparently, Alan is not
one who gets boxed in too easily. =)
From
the coconut credentials of MacMonkies Mr. Wiles comes a piece
from the other side quite literally. The
Other Side is simply a view of Opposing
Forces from...well, the other side. Just wait till next week
to see the wild and wackiness that can come out of a tad bit
of twistedness!
And temporarily
misplaced until 7:24 am (can everyone say SPACE MONKIE?) is a
bit of an odd 3-D piece by the absent minded Monkie titled StarJam.
Desktop Department!
- This week's
second dose of Doubleshottedness comes from the creative mind of Bob
Wiley. Blowing the concrete all to bits, Bob offers a fantastic
piece titled Abstract Impression.
And if that doesn't leave a lasting enough impression, Bob blasts
out another with Abstract Impression
2. Get the impression?
And finally, wrapping
things up with a twirl is Blue
Twist. This is just a little dabbling
in Photoshop's standard filters from Monkie Man Wiles. Enjoy!
WE EXTEND
OUR THANKS
To:
Adrian,
Alan, Bob, Hein,
Matthew, Rene, Scott, and S. Stéphane
AWESOME
WORK!

our regular rounds along the internet highway, we noticed a couple
sad little signs hanging up in two popular GUI shops. Both Ethereal Creations

their doors. Both artists, Andy Moraitis - desktop artist; and
Sam Krueger - icon artist, are exceptional in their field of
work. Their contributions to the community will certainly be
missed. Here's to you, gentlemen!

Speeding Up Due Process With E-Mail - In Yakima county
Washington, there's a few people who would like to dispute their
traffic tickets - more than 1,200 this year alone. But the wait
for a chance to speak to the judge is too long. In order for
the disputes to be settled more quickly, county officials are
looking into a program in which traffic ticket holders can e-mail
their explanations to a judge. The judge then responds to each
complaint either by e-mail or a postcard. - from Excite
Man
Survives Trash Compacter - A man named Chad Dillon fell asleep
in a trash bin after going out drinking Thursday night. The trash
was then picked up and compacted. Witnesses heard the 24-year-old
screaming from inside the garbage truck and told the driver.
Altogether Dillon was compacted twice, "treated for head,
chest and arm injuries" and released Friday night. Sheesh! Can everbody

Face On: Breaking A Clothespin Record - Garry "Stretch"
Turner celebrated the release of the Guinness
Book of Records 2003 by breaking his record of clipping clothespins
to his face. He placed 153 clothespins on his face, beating his
former record by 20 clothespins. He did it in front of a crowd
and had marks on his face for an hour afterward. Apparently attaching
the clothespins to his cheeks hurts the worst. Click image

said the captain, "you pray while the rest of us put on
our life jackets - we're one short."
