Coming Up Apples! - Apple has reported a fruitful
business quarter. Revenue was 37% higher than the same quarter
last year, and the reserves are sitting at a comfortable
amount - $4.4 billion. Apple has opened 27 stores, sold 125,000
iPods and shipped 746,000 Macs this quarter, nearly half of them
overseas. In addition, 40% of the people who bought Macs in retail
stores had not owned them previously. - from
Macuser
uBETT! - Apple's iDVD has won the BETT award this year.
The BETT awards "recognize excellence in information communications
technology (ICT) for education." Last year Apple won the
BETT award for Airport Networking and the judges' Award for Innovation
for the iBook and the Airport. - from Macuser
Gone to the Dogs - Bangkok has opened a massage parlor
for canines. The
new salon is called "Doggie Bag", and offers dogs a
spa as well as a salon. Forty four-year-old Thanit Kittikanokun
decided to open the dog salon because he noticed from owning
dogs for years that "they also love being massaged."
The average price for an appointment is $11.50, and owners have
a range of options to choose from including physical massage,
voice massage, regular washing, grooming and aroma therapy. There goes the neighborhood! -
from Netscape
Good Cop? BAD Cop! - Members of the police force
in Bratislava were involved in 53 traffic accidents last year.
At least four people were killed in those accidents due to officers
who were driving drunk when they were off duty. In the most recent
incident, which killed a forty four-year-old citizen, a drunk
officer actually fled the scene of the accident. Once he was
found he had to face a breathalyzer test and failed. As a result
of the four recent deaths, police will have to face random breathalyzer
tests for an indefinite amount of time. -
from Excite
Holy Rockin' Rollers? - Sting will take the stage of
the opening ceremony of the Olympics on February 8 with none
other than the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He recently won a Golden
Globe award for his original song written for the movie "Kate
& Leopold." Other performers scheduled to perform at
the opening ceremony include the Dixie Chicks and LeAnn Rimes.
It appears that the members of the music industry are coming
together for this event just as well as athletes from around
the world. - from Excite

Have you Heard?
Tough Gig to Follow - The recent Macworld
Expo produced a high level of excitement with new products
such as iPhoto and
the newly redesigned iMac.
One thing, however, that it didn't produce was the much anticipated
speed increase of the Mac desktop lineup. Though the Expo didn't
see the breaking of the Gigahertz barrier for the Mac, the "buzz"
concerning when the speed bumps would be out certainly
got started before the Expo was even over. Many sites are reporting
that Apple will be releasing the fast new Macs any day now. Some
even expected the blazing new Macs out yesterday.
Though most would welcome the introduction of the fast new
Macs, one thing to consider is this: Would Jobs and Company risk
overshadowing the brand new iMacs (Jobs' pride and joy) by releasing
the new PPC's so soon after their initial release? Though Apple has a real need for speed,
one would have to question how it might affect the overall sales
strategy. Thus, the new iMac would be one tough gig to follow.
Even still, one very reliable source is reporting that the
new Gigahertz barrier breaking Macs are due out anytime this
week.
Still scratchin' your head? We'll keep you posted!

ONLINE ADDICTION (Part I)
You know you've been online too long when:
Tech Support calls "YOU" for help.
You find yourself trying to cock your head 90 degrees when
you smile.
You keep begging your friends to get an account so "we
can hang out."
If you are male and see a female in the "Real" world
that you wish to meet, your first thought is to IM her.
If you are female and you see a male in the "Real"
world that you wish to meet, your first thought is that you wish
he'd IM you.
You have to get a 2nd phone line just so you can call Pizza
Hut.
When looking at signs, you wonder why they are always "yelling"
at you.
You go up to people you are attracted to "in real life"
and ask them for their GIF.
Although you don't know what they look like, you become insanely
jealous of people hitting on your cyber-love.
You don't even know what your cyber-love looks like.
When at work, your boss constantly reminds you that the word
i should be capitalized.
You watch TV with the closed captioning turned on.
