Happicon! - Rene has updated the ever happy icon archives of Happicon with 2 brand new sets titled Cute101 and Cute202. He has also updated his "FinderMoods" set to change the Dock Finder icon in Mac OS X 10.2. There's lots of new graphics on the site, so you may want to give the page a refresh of 3! Hurry over to Happicon and get your Mac smilin' right away!

BigFoot With Eyeballs! - Yes, you read right! Your eyeballs did not deceive you. Stick Software has released both BigFoot 2.1 and Eyeballs 2.2 ready for download. Both updates include bug fixes and added language localizations. These apps are nothing but fun. Seeing IS believing. So get those big feet on over to Stick Software and lay your eyeballs on these great apps for OSX!

Smirk of the Day: Back To School Blues - Four high school boys afflicted with back to school blues skipped morning classes. After lunch they reported to the teacher that they had a flat tire. Much to their relief she smiled and said, "Well, you missed a test today so take seats apart from one another and take out a piece of paper." Still smiling, she waited for them to sit down. Then she said, "First Question: Which tire was flat?"

Fruit Menu 2.5 - The awesomely "different" folks over yonder at Unsanity have announced the release of FruitMenu 2.5.1., the great app that allows the return of the Classic style Apple menu and other cool features. IHeartNY - Matthew Bice of IHeartNY reports that More Ways to Skin a Dock should be released shortly now that the Jaguar bugs are almost completely worked out.

This up-and-coming OSX dock "skinning" app is sure to amaze you and works great in conjunction with CandyBar from The Iconfactory. Keep them browsers pointed at IHeartNY for more info about this cool tool soon to come!

At The Top

Happy Mac Is History - If you haven't already heard, the Happy Mac icon is officially gone after 18 years of welcoming Mac users at startup. With the introduction of Jaguar (Mac OS X 10.2), Apple buried Happy Mac and replaced it with their logo. The Sad Mac and Dead Mac icons are also gone. According to Apple programmers, Steve Jobs has wanted to do away with Happy Mac for a long time. Apple has no comment on why Happy Mac was buried.

Rampant Mac - Mr. Scott Chitwood (AKA Mister Old Fart) of the ever popular Rampant Mac is back with a set gushing with inspirated Mac-ability with Aquaricons II. This cool class act set even includes an original layered Photoshop file to inspire a little how to for all you up-and-coming icon artists!

 

DV Graphics - Our own Paul Sahner, packin' the punch at TNT and the brains behind DVG, offers an OSX-only set titled Circles . This blast from the past was Paul's first published set, appearing in Japan's MacPower Magazine.

 

miX the piX - Let your Mac express itself with Emoticons from Mr. Hein "miX the piX" Mevissen. This awesome new set is sure to put a smile and then some on your desktop!

And you can't complain when you can add cool to usefulness and still have a great time. Hein demonstrates the combination with Usefull Buttons. Whether you have Jaguar or a younger kitty, this spiffy set will come in quite handy.

 

Taking Pictures - Another artist to combine style and usefulness is the Adam Dickson, creator of Taking Pictures. Adam presents some real cool Tools for your desktop's delight! Just hope he didn't use the hammer on his Keyboard!

New! Super 7 In The Desktop Gallery - Whoa! Here's some great desktops including another exclusive pic from widget : widget and a monster of great pic from Rampant Mac!

Desktop Department! - Starting off this week's Gallery selections is another exclusive pic from widget : widget's Alexander MacLean. Eastern Block showcases Alexander's keen eye for color and his ability to reach out and grab your desktop's attention.

Another great desktop from Mr. Bob Wiley is the in-your-face fluorescence of Volumetric #1. This far out pic will keep your monitor glowing for hours!

They say curiosity killed the cat. Looks as though Adam Dickson got to the Keyboard first! This is one of the many classy pictures you'll find in the collections at Taking Pictures.

 

Etc! - Thinking all things Apple (and perhaps a sexy blonde or two) is Nitehawk Jarrett with his favorite Olsens twin pic and soon to be yours with Think Different Olsens - Artsy. This is the second of 2 and two seems to be the operative term here! Be sure to grab a double take!

 

3-D Delectables - Ohmygoshamaghorooooo! Just when you thought the streets were safe, the Rampant Mac attacks with Phantasmaghora, this amazing "thing" that I can barely pronounce and you'll have a tough time prying away your eyes! This is certainly one of Scott Chitwood's best. Just be careful it doesn't sneak up behind you and tap you on the shoulder!

Slipping back behind the bars of the 21st century is a "prehistoric" piece from Mr. Monkie Man Wiles titled Cave Man. Or should that be Monkie Man?

Finishing up the delusion of dimensions is another work from Mr. Wiles with Dream On. Just remember: Things aren't always as they appear. 8]

The Iconfactory - What? You haven't heard yet? The Iconfactory has released CandyBar 1.0! This great little app from the Factory and Panic allows you to customize many MacOS X icons - including the toolbar, folders, media and the trash can. Bid Date Bumped: DoveBid Auction Today - The DoveBid online auction of Apple products that we mentioned last month is going on today - September 4, 2002. Originally it was scheduled for August 30, but got postponed. The auction features Apple "computers, notebooks and peripherals," and is scheduled from 9am to 1pm Pacific time. Brain Music - A study by the University of Toronto has shown that people who listen to their own "brain music" fall asleep faster. "Brain music" was made by converting individuals' EEG recordings into music on the computer. Participants who listened to their own CDs of "brain music" before bedtime fell asleep three times faster than those who listened to other people's CDs. To hear a sample of "brain music," click here. E-Prayers: Online Prayer Requests - The Rosslyn Chapel in Edinburgh, Scotland has started the first online prayer site (www.scottishepiscopal.com) in their country. People can anonymously e-mail their prayer requests and church members print them out and pray for them. The service was launched on Monday and inspired by American churches who offer similar services on the web. The site, according to the Reverend Michael Fass, is "connecting people to the church." - from Yahoo

David Lee Roth Just Won't Shut Up - Police in Essex Junction received 32 complaints about the loud volume of the David Lee Roth concert at the Champlain Valley Exposition last Sunday night. The band was asked to turn their volume down numerous times, but they failed to do so. Local resident Robert Durham reported that he "had the air conditioner on ... and I could still hear it with the doors and windows closed." The fair was fined $5,000 for the disturbance. Bulldozer Botch-Up - Yesenia Reyes and her husband had quite a surprise during supper when a bulldozer came plowing through their wall. The bulldozer was scheduled to demolish a house two spaces away, but started to demolish the Reyes' house instead. The couple simply went out their front door and asked what was going on. George Zaragozi, president of contractors Zara Inc., said that he could have the damage to the Reyes' house fixed in two days. Ummm, I think I would not have been so patient. - from Ananova

Have you Heard?

Apple PC's? - An all time favorite Apple rumor is that of the Mac driven PC with Intel under the hood. Or is it? PC Pro reports a mention by the "usually rumor-free eWeek" that a "project called Marklar which maintains x86-compatible builds of the latest version of OS X." One reason, the article claims, that Apple is focusing on the Intel hardware is because Apple can't get no satisfaction with the "slow rate of Motorola's PowerPC development after committing to the PowerPC G4 as the centerpiece of its current desktops and professional laptop systems."

Apple has steered clear of an OS for the Intel market since Apple is primarily a hardware company, thus the creation of an Apple OS that ran a PC could easily eat into their own profits. Though the creation of a Mac OS for the "dark side" of the PC world could make switchers of many, it does seem that Apple would use this strategy as a last resort.
