The August 2001 Edtion of PC
World reports that Microsoft's antipiracy Product Activation
feature recieved a "near unanimous thumbs-down" verdict
by their readers. The feature allows a person to use a program
such as Office 2000 or Windows XP OS for a certain period (or
number of times). After this period, the product will be rendered
unusable unless it is registered over the telephone or via the
internet. No problem, right? Wrong. Simply installing a new hard
drive or reinstalling after a system crash will trigger the Product
Activation and thus the product would have to be registered
again. For Microsoft, multiple registrations could appear to
be piracy.
Privacy and inconvenience were a couple of the reasons listed
by participants in PC World's survey for not upgrading to newer
versions that include the Product Activation feature.
Engineer Chris Cavanaugh says that "Microsoft is telling
customers that they can't be trusted." Another conludes
that once a person is pushed so far, "they will do something."
Johnmichael P. Monteith, IS Director said, "We...are considering
the introduction of Linux or Mac OS systems." Now that
could make a Mac happy!
Gasoline prices in most areas
have reached an all time high in recent months. Regardless of
the National average, prices have actually gone down in
this neck of the woods by about 15 to 20 cents per gallon. You
may want to check the price in your own area for the most current
cost. CLICK HERE.
MacMonkies has posted two new 3-D

We were informed by one Mac fan that the local news
stand was out of the August issue of MacAddict
that contained theFree Eye Candy filters. However, we were told
that the same offer was available in the July issue of Macworld
(if it is still on the stands). Thanks for
the tip, Scott!

Have you Heard?
Good news and bad news.
The good news is that word has it that Apple should be releasing
Mac OS 9.2, the latest version of the Classic OS, as soon as
the Macworld Expo in just a few days.
The bad news is that OS 10.1, the much anticipated update
to OSX, could come anywhere from a few weeks after the
Expo to as late as September. This would come as a great disappointment
to Mac fans. Not only is this update expected to bring speed
to the finder, CD burning, and DVD playback, but it is crucial
to development as well. Adobe's development for OSX apps is very
dependant on the speed and stability of of the OS. This could
mean a delay in applications for OSX like Photoshop, Illustrator,
and other popular titles. As it is, there will be a "no
show" for Adobe due to the obvious lack of new product for
Mac as well as strained relations with Apple and because of the
delays. If all info is on target, users can only hope for a break
in development. Come on baby light my fire!

Odds and Ends
A Penny for Your Thoughts
Imagine if you will, that you are asked to choose from one
of the following sums of money:
Option 1. A single payment of one-hundred thousand
dollars,
or:
Option 2. An installment plan over the course of one
month. The first day you recieve a penny, and each following
day you recieve double what you did the day before. In other
words, day one you recieve a penny. Day two you recieve two pennies.
Day three you recieve four pennies. And so on.
So what do you think? Out of a group of about 25 individuals,
most chose the first option. However, if you did your math, you
realized that on the 31st day of the month, you would recieve
an installment of $10,737,418.24! And that doesn't include
all the payments you have already recieved up through
the last day!!
Those pesky pennies seem to really add
up!

Editor's NotesOh yeah! We're still scurryin' around
like Monkies with bugs in our teeth. The banana boxes and coconut
crates are slowly being unpacked and put away. Holy Toledo CowMonkies!
It's been a busy. Though a lot of hair has been pulled, I just
gotta say it...THANKYOU! The first week in operation has been
very successful. We only have you to "blame!" =)
If you look around a bit, you will notice
some minor changes on the surface. Part of the recent work has
been in the bowels of this critter. But we know that is not where
your interest lies. The area that you can expect to see
next is the "Recommended Software" section. I've practically
blown up computers with junk software, so at least I know what
NOT to use! But seriously, there's alot of cool software,
shareware, and freeware out there just for the taking.
Other areas of improvement will include: Added
Desktops, Audio, improved navigation, and whatever we can find
that is FUN!
Again, thank you so much for the wonderful
turnout.
This Banana's for YOU!
