Macworld Expo - As we
reported yesterday, the opening
of the Macworld Expo in San Francisco brought about some exciting
new hardware and software for the Mac platform. Checkout the Apevine for further details!
iMac On Time - Time Magazine
features the new iMac on its cover this week, and also features information about the new
iMac on the inside. The article includes specs on the iMac as
well as information about iPhoto, which joins iDVD, iTunes and
iMovie software. The magazine is already in the hands of its
subscribers and is on the shelves at this time, so pick one up
and check it out! - from MacCentral
iSteal! - An iPod listening station has been spotted
in one of the stores in Nagoya, Japan. Apparently it is enclosed
in a glass platform with the controls left open so people can
try it out as they walk by. Also on the podium was a sign written
in both English and Japanese that said "Don't steal music."
- from Macobserver
Spin City - Ashrita Furman, a New York health food
store manager, was on vacation
in Cambodia while setting a new world record for walking 5 miles
while twirling a hula-hoop around his waist. He is forty-seven
years old and has already set numerous other world records, including
climbing Mt. Fugi on a pogo stick and walking 33 miles with a
bottle of milk atop his head. After five miles of spinning the
hula-hoop, Furman said he was "very dizzy and a bit shaky."
Someone is certainly full of Spin! - from

Paper Power Macs - Mike Burgess was so excited when
he ordered a brand new Mac G4 Cube that he couldn't wait to see
it. So he figured out a way to build it out of cardboard just
to see what it would look like. He liked the looks of his cardboard
Cube and proceeded to post his plans for building it at MacAddict.
Said Burgess, "I could not get it to boot up with the OS
8.6 CD but it looks great sticking out of the top slot!"

Not a Thing to Wear! - Video conferencing in a sauna
could be a reality very soon. For Jarkko Lumio and the rest of
the staff at Finnish Business Media Tampere, they would like
to install a window in their saunas to view a computer screen
through. Also installed would be a web camera and microphone
so important decisions can be made via video conferencing while
sitting in the sauna. Lumio quips, "The sauna goers can
decide for themselves what to wear for the Web casts." Sounds like a wanna be nudist colony to me.

Safe and Secure?
- As a security measure in our nation, steps are being taken
to record information electronically on drivers licenses. Lawmakers
also believe that this would cut down on financial fraud and
underage drinking. If the law is written, officials will be directed
to quickly come up with guidelines to store information electronically.
Some people, such as former chief technology officer for the
Privacy Foundation Richard M. Smith, are opposed to such a law.
His concern is that there would be "no difference between
a driver's license and a national ID card." - from

Have you Heard?
Got Mac?! - Holy
Toledo Monkies! Some great stuff showed up at the Macworld Expo
keynote address. And some great stuff showed up missing! Among
those to make an appearance were the ultra spiffy, completely
redesigned iMac and Apple's new edition to the their digital
hub -- iPhoto. And among the no-shows were the much anticipated
"speed bumps" pushing the current G4 tower line-up
past the gigahertz barrier! Drag! However, the buzz is already
speculating that the introduction of a 1 GHz + could show up
as soon as February at Seybold in Paris or March at the Macworld
Expo in Tokyo.
Hilites of the keynote address were:
Adobe showed off Photoshop for OSX
Palm's demonstration of its integration with OSX.
Lucas Films demonstrated Maya on OSX
Steve Jobs announced that OSX will be the default OS
on all Macs effective immediately
Steve Jobs shows off iMovie, iDVD, and iTunes.
iPhoto was introduced
New Ad shown -- "Baby Jack"
New 14" iBook introduced
New flat panel iMac introduced -- 700MHz to 800 MHz.
Starting at $1299
DVD-Rs now $5 each
Head over to Apple and
check out the cool new stuff!
Disappearing Themes - We don't know the details yet,
but noticed were some "disappearing" theme screenshots
at XThemination! The displayed graphic says "Sorry, this
file is not available for download." The question is: Are
they taking them down or putting them up? Hmmm...

Bright Monkey! - Did you know that if you have the
Pro version of QuickTime 5, you have complete control over brightness,
color, contrast, and tint? Yuppers! Just go to "Movie"
in the Menu bar and select "Show Video Controls" or
Command K and...ta da! The control pops up on the screen.

SECURITY ALERT!
Latest news reports advise that a cell of terrorists have
infiltrated L.A. County office buildings in downtown L.A.
Investigators for the county advised earlier today that 3
of the 4 have been detained
The terrorists Bin Sleepin, Bin Drinkin, and Bin Fightin have
been arrested on a variety of charges. Investigators state that
they can find no one fitting the description of the four cell
member, Bin Workin, in any county building.
Investigators are confident that anyone who looks like Workin
should be very easy to spot.

Yesterday,
All those backups seemed a waste of pay
Now my database has gone away
Oh I believe in Yesterday
Suddenly
There's not half the files there used to be
There's a milestone hanging over me
The system crashed so suddenly
I pushed something wrong
What it was I could not say
Now my data's gone
Now I long for Yesterday-ay-ay-ay

Need for backups seemed so far away
Thought my data was all here to stay

MARRIAGE IN EDEN

A SIGN FROM ABOVE
A certain trucker learned to drive an 18 wheeler in his days
of adventure. Wouldn't ya know, he misjudged the height of a
bridge. The truck got stuck and he couldn't get it out no matter
how he tried. He radioed in for help and eventually a local cop
shows up to take the report. The officer went through his basic
questioning..ok..no problem. One would think for sure he was
clear of needing a "sign"...until the officer asked
"So..is your truck stuck?" The trucker couldn't help
himself! He looked at him, looked back at the rig and then back
to him and said "No, I'm delivering a bridge... here's your
sign."

SAY WHAT?!
Things said in 1959
"I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way
they are, its' going to be impossible to buy a weeks groceries
for $20."
"If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit.
A quarter a pack is ridiculous."
"Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging
a dime just to mail a letter?"
"If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be
able to hire outside help at the store."
"When I first started driving, who would have thought
gas would someday cost 50 cents a gallon."
"I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever
since they let Clark Gable get by with saying 'damn' in 'Gone
With The Wind,' it seems every movie has a 'hell' or a 'damn'
in it."
"Also, it won't be long until couples are sleeping in
the same bed in the movies. What is this world coming to?"
"Marilyn Monroe is now showing her bra and panties, so
apparently there are no standards anymore."
"Did you see where some baseball player just signed a
contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise
me if someday they'll be making more than the president."
"Do you suppose television will ever reach our part of
the country?"
"It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where
a few married women are having to work to make ends meet."
"It won't be long before young couples are going to have
to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work."
"Next thing you know is, the government will start paying
us not to grow crops."
"I'm just afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open
the door to a
whole lot of foreign business."
"I don't know about you but if they raise the price of
coffee to 15 cents, I'll just have to drink mine at home."
"If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget
it. I'll have my wife learn to cut hair."
the Bottom Line
(What more did you expect?! )

Just a quick note from the Banana
bin this week...
It has been noticed that since the
the start of MacMonkies, an overall lightness in the air
has drifted in to the Monkie Den. The reason? Let's just say
that the old cliche -
Put on a happy face
- REALLY works! Seriously...this Monkie is not the most
easily amused. But even when in a not-so-monkie mood, the "show"
must go on. And when you are tryin' to crack a smile in someone
else, it's hard to keep an upside down Banana on your face.
Try it! You'll like it!
=)
