Update!

March 19, 2002

Desktop News - The gents from EA Design do it again! They've updated with 9 new 3-D pieces including sequels to Roasted Metal and some new work: Twisted, Falls of the Mind, Water and Fire. In their 2-D section, Ed Allen updates with photos and fractals, while Alan Sherwood updates with collages and an outstanding piece called Inifinty. Point that mouse to EA Design and check out their latest update. This you gotta see!

What Time Is It? - Nope, it's not 4:30. But it is certainly time again to let you know what's in store at MacMonkies for Wednesday! How about 7 spectacular new desktops including a 2 new pics from MacMonkies, a "heart-filled" piece from Andy Moraitis, a pair of pics from the boys at EA Design, "double" the fun from Todd Darland, and a fine debut from MacMonkies newest contributor Neil Roberts! No Monkie hype here! You're gonna love this collection in the next edition of MacMonkies!

Conflict in Interests? - Have you noticed? Shortly after Adobe announced the availability of Photoshop 7.0, retailers were expecting to begin shipping on March 7th. Outpost.com told us that their revised ship date was March 12th. However, Zones.com reports April 7th and Amazon.com reports April 15th. Adobe has left ample room to adjust their "mind" as needed. The News Release clearly states that Photoshop 7.0 "will ship in the second quarter of 2002 for all platforms." This could technically define a wait until the end of May. Further more, their site also states "Photoshop 7.0 is currently not available for pre-order or purchase. Be the first to hear when Adobe is accepting pre-orders in late March 2002." We certainly hope someone hears about it!

Barefoot Beta Update - We have added an additional song to the Barefoot Monkies testing site - "Heart of Leaves." This big brother to "Leave of Heart" is a biggy as it weighs in at 9 MB. It also is compressed in .zip format rather than .sit. Let us know what you think!

Whoops! - Yesterday we were quoted as saying, "That's not including the count since its arrival on July 4, 2002. Hmmm! Should have said "...July 4, 2001. It has been corrected. That feels better already. Thanks go out to Melissa for the Heads Up!

THANK YOU!

Certainly, you make the difference! I cannot express enough my personal thanks to all of you - readers and contributors alike - for making such an impact on me and the rest of the Mac/PC community!

Network News

March 13, 2002

MonkieNews! - As we mentioned last week, we have a lot of exciting new things coming your way at MacMonkies. Besides the Audio section of MacMonkies officially beginning the Beta stage (see below), we've added a new section to our GUI Department with another just around the corner. Add to that, we have some of the best GUI/Desktop artists on the net with selections to really make your Mac Smile! How 'bout I shut up and we get to the news?!

  • Gallery Galore! - This week is packed plumb full with 8 new pics from such fine artists as Todd Darland, Scott Chitwood, Ed Allen and Alan Sherwood of EA Design, Melissa of MAJArch Studios, the Bryan family, and of course the nutty Simian Mr. MacMonk!

One for Fun! - First up, we have an adorable picture from the Bryan family of their daughter Charity September Lana Bryan (now that's a mouthful) that I titled One of Those Days! This pic was so much fun, I put it in both the Fun Area and the Section of Etc... Enjoy!

Delightful Desktops! - Fronting our Desktop Area is another fine piece from Melissa of MAJArch Studios titled Strawberry Fields.

Also in the same Department is a fine piece from Todd Darland titled RepulsionBlu and a masterful desktop from Scott Chitwood titled R1E!

Finally in the department of Desks is a gripping piece from MacMonkies named To the Bone.

Outstanding 3-D! - The fine artists from EA Design do it again! Alan Sherwood flexes his 3-D skills with a piece titled Multiplication IV! Ed Allen really let's his imagination do the talking with the super cool pic called Falls of the Mind!

Bringing up the rear is a ponderous piece from MacMonkies titled The Choice Is Yours.

Check 'em out!

  • New Section! - We are quite honored to have Mr. Chitwood open up our new section in our GUI Department by throwing a Coconut through the...Er, I guess that wasn't in the script. However, the new area named Monkie Bundles has been broke in with a special bundle from Scott that includes his Desktop R1E along with the awesome icons that he designed the desktop for. These icons are an official entry to this year's Pixelpalooza icon design contest. Good Luck Scott!

  • Another Link - And added to our Links page this week is a spiffy little icon site by the name of the IconsTree! One, two, three...Click!

  • New Monkie Site - As mentioned earlier, the MacMonkies Digital Audio section is JUST around the corner! And we would like your help. We set up a "Beta Site" in which to work out all the potential browser bugs so we can bring you high quality digital music via the simplest available method. The site is currently set up for both downloadable and streaming MP3's.

If you are interested in helping us out, simply send us an e-mail and express your desire to participate. You can also just head over to the site and check it out. However, if you are not "registered" you might miss out on such opportunities to receive FREE CD's and other special offers.

So, what's the name of this site? Well, none other than BarefootMonkies!

Want to be a part? Simply send an e-mail to:

bugsquashers@barefootmonkies.com

Then point your browser to:

http://www.barefootmonkies.com

Then just let us know what you think! Send questions too!

Thanks for Your Help!

P.S. Thanks to everyone for your FINE work in the Gallery!

Eye9design! - Oophda! Kitchen in the cookin'! Er, guess that's the other way around! No matter how you spell it up, Sir Patrick has been one busy Monkie (did I just say that) and has plenty of GUI goodies ready to serve. And why haven't you left yet? We'll bet our I's on Eye9design!

PRSNew Icons - Check out the latest OSX icons at Xicons. Among the shiny items to keep your Mac grinnin' ear-to-ear is a really nice set by Graham MacInnes called PRS Guitars. Check out these and other fine sets at Xicons.com!

Ethereal Creations - Inspired and named for a musical composition of the same name by dear friend and Monkie Man Bradford J. Wiles, Andy Moraitis of Ethereal Creations is pleased to bring you his latest Bryce/Poser render entitled Leave of Heart. Stop in and have a look. You won't be disappointed! Ah gee shucks, man...Thanks!

Pixelpalooza 2002 - There is less than 1 month to go to submit your icons to The Iconfactory's 6th Annual Pixelpalooza icon design contest. Entries will be accepted from now until April 1, 2002.

Pixelpalooza 2002

Also on The Iconfactory's Newsdesk is the report regarding Mindy, their resident News Hound:

Our resident News Hound, Mindy took a bad step off our back deck yesterday which resulted in an awful sprained ankle. The doctor's prescription of R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression & Elevation), will conspire to keep her off her feet and away from the news desk for the next few days. And since she's also the oil that keeps the Deskbase machine updated and new Pixelpalooza entries being posted, there will be delays there too. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Be sure to stop over to The Iconfactory and wish Mindy a speedy recovery!

New Look!! - MAJArch Studios has been updated with a brand new look! It's always nice to make some changes here and there to those "old four walls." In this case, the entire site sports a bright new look. Head over and have a peek!

Get Your OSX Themes - XThemination has recently added 2 cool new themes for your Mac to really show off its lines and curves: Cole-F and Latitude02.

One can hardly pass up these finely crafted themes. Get 'em while they're hot!

Low End MacBest of the Mac Web - There's still time to head over to Low End Mac and rate your favorite of the 50 best and best-known independent Mac-related sites. The Best of the Mac Web Survey will run through Tuesday, March 19, 2002. The results should be up by Friday, March 22. Don't you dally! Get over there and vote!

Potholes And Horses And Camels, OH MY! - Irish motorists were warned to Camellook out for a camel on the roads last Friday. Apparently there was a circus in town and the local Automobile Association received a call of a camel sighting on the Clara road. Motorists were warned to watch out for a camel or possibly a llama. Police, however, never confirmed the sighting. - I read the news today oh boy... from Excite

New View - The fourth Movie Trailer for the up-and-coming new Star Wars movie is now viewable at Apple's Quicktime Movie Trailers Web Page. The trailer is entitled "Clone War" and depicts more action than the previous three trailors. Small and medium versions of the trailer are viewable with Quicktime 5. The movie, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, is due in theaters on May 16, 2002.

One In A Million! - Apple has announced that their popular new photo program, iPhoto, has been downloaded more than one million times since it was released in January. That does not include all the copies customers are using because it is pre-installed on the new Macs. With numbers this high, says Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, "iPhoto has almost instantly become one of the most popular digital photo applications of all time." - from MacObserver

Home Sweeter Home - Mercedez BenzA former music teacher in Britain faced a dilemma when her car was towed away by authorities as a possible health hazard. Sixty-year-old Ann Naysmith had lived in her Ford Consul for 26 years as a protest for being evicted from her home. When neighbors discovered that her car had been towed, they parked a red Mercedes for her in place of the Ford Consul and placed a sign on it that read "Welcome home Miss Naysmith." That is SO sweet! - from Yahoo

Crock of AOL - Word is out that AOL will be replacing its current default browser, Microsoft Internet Explorer, with the Gecko rendering engine (Mozilla browser) in it's up and coming 8.0 version. The switch is not due to any dislike of Microsoft, according to AOL techs, but rather it is based on saving money as well as going with what works the best. Says an AOL worker of Microsoft's server products, "The licenses cost too much, their hardware requirements are excessive, they take too much labor to maintain, and we have enough security problems of our own without adding Microsoft's."Version 8.0? Mac users are still stuck with version 5.0! Can you say "Gag me with a B-52?" - from The Register

Ear's Listenin' At You - EarballA farmer from Orissa state is challenging B.D. Tyagi for the longest ear hair in the Guinness Book of World Records. Narayan Prasad Pal claims to have ear hair that measures 13 cm from his ears, whereas B.D. Tyagi, the current man listed as the world record holder, has ear hair which only measures 10.2 cm. Says Pal, 65, of his ear hair: "I can safely say that I have the longest ear hair in the world. I am proud of my hair. Other than that there is not much I have achieved in life." For a look at this really funky phenomenon, CLICK HERE. Huh! He should see the length of my nose hairs! - from Ananova

Have you Heard?

What Goes Down... - What goes down must go back up again. Right? Well the latest buzz is that the recent trend not to buy (most anything) will, if not already has, drive RAM prices from the manufacturer SKY high (Hey! Isn't that a Windows thing?). Thus, you might want to consider heading to your favorite computer dealer and grabbing as much Memory as you can afford. Now, don't you forget!

I-C-U? - Some inside sources are saying that Apple is indeed "looking at" an Apple Branded digital camera, but it would not be released anytime this year. So much for my list to Santa.

HAVING A BAD DAY

Rules For Work

Never give me work in the morning. Always wait until 4:00 pm and then bring it to me. The challenge of a deadline is refreshing.

If it's really a rush job, run in and interrupt me every 10 minutes to inquire how it's going. That helps.

Always leave without telling anyone where you're going. It gives me a chance to be creative when someone asks where you are.

If you give me more than one job to do, don't tell me which is priority. I really am psychic.

If a job I do pleases you, keep it a secret. If that gets out, it could mean a promotion. And then I might have YOUR job!

NO PROBLEM

After receiving an e-mail reply with the positive response of simply "NP," I couldn't resist in replying to the "reply" with the following - yup, you guessed it - reply:

Hmmm...nostril pollution, no pigmentation, naughty politicians, negative propulsion, narcissistically positive...Hmmm, No Problem!

I couldn't help it! I promise!

COFFEE IN BED

A sweet little boy surprised his grandmother one morning and brought her a cup of coffee. He made it himself and was so proud. He anxiously waited to hear the verdict on the quality of the coffee.

The grandmother had never in her life had such a bad cup of coffee, and as she forced down the last sip, she noticed three of those little green army guys in the bottom of the cup. She asked, "Honey, why would three little green army guys be in the bottom of my cup?" Her grandson replied, "You know, Grandma, it's like on TV:

'The best part of waking up is soldiers in your cup.'"

FAIR TRADE

While in office, President Clinton decided to buy a puppy as a present for Hillary. He snuck the puppy under his coat into the White House. As he was walking down one of the halls he came upon Al Gore. Clinton could not hold back his joy and shared his surprise with the Vice President.

"Look what I got for Hillary!" exclaimed Clinton, holding up the puppy.

Al Gore stared for a moment, then his eyes brightened up as he said, "Nice trade, sir!"

How many PC owners does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Only one, but he'll have to go out and buy the light bulb adaptor card first, which is extra.

LOVE THY SIBLING AS THYSELF

A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds.

After explaining the commandment to 'honor thy father and thy mother', she asked, "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?"

Without missing a beat, one little boy answered, "Thou shall not kill."!
