ATTENTION WEEKEND WARRIORS! - G'day folks! We here at MacMonkies are dedicated to blowing a blast of info and fun your direction as often as possible. However, doin' the Monkie Tango every day can wind old monkies on occasion. So, we would like to know how you would feel if we took a break on the weekends and kept Updates to the "normal" business week.

At The Top - Yimminee cricket crawlers! The weekend is about to begin. New Icons - Another fab four artists are in the spotlight this week as we bring you 4 fantastic Icon Sets to pixel place your desktop's delight. Lezz dooooit!

miX the piX - From the galleries of miX the piX we get down with some "heavy metal" with Hein Mevissen's Brushed. This rendition of Apple's brushed metal interface contains 26 absolutely remarkable replacement icons for OSX. Heavy man, heavy!

Pictures and Adicons - Adam Dickson continues to amaze the Monkie with Stuffit Deluxe Adicons, his version of Aladdin's Stuffit icons. This amazing set from the archives of Pictures and Adicons gives them a retro, yet 21st Century style makeover. Excellent results!

Rampant Mac - The Mac attack is back from Rampant Mac with Crystal Wydgets by Rampant 1 Scott Chitwood! Scott finds something mental going on there with the spheres thing...well, we best not touch on that too much. Just don't let your eyes go mental without this fine work!

Alisdair Jones - Putting the bottom blast on this week's edition of excellence in icons is Alisdair Jones with Sci-Fi Vol. 2. All the icons are 3D models rendered in Electric Image Universe. There's nothing but top-notch work in this set and your eyes are sure to be pleased. Enjoy!

Just Plain Nuts - R. Westby

A REAL COLD ONE!

I was driving down a lonely country road one cold winter day when it began to sleet pretty heavily. My windows were getting icy and my wiper blades were badly worn and quickly fell apart under the strain. Unable to drive any further because of the ice building up on my front window I suddenly had a great idea. I stopped and began to overturn large rocks until I located two very lethargic hibernating rattle snakes. I grabbed them up, straightened them out flat and installed them on my blades and they worked just fine. What! You've never heard of...wind chilled vipers?

WINNING DITZ!

There once was a ditz. The ditz walked up to a coke machine one day, put a quarter in and out popped a coke. The ditz put another quarter in and out popped a coke. This went on for about a hour. Then a man came up and said "HEY! Are you done yet?"

The ditz said "Shut-up I'm winning."

TAXING SITUATION

Driving to work, a gentleman had to swerve to avoid a box that fell out of a truck in front of him. Seconds later, a policeman pulled him over for reckless driving. Fortunately, another officer had seen the carton in the road. The policeman stopped traffic and recovered the box. It was found to contain large upholstery tacks. "I'm sorry sir," the first trooper told the driver, "but I am still going to have to write you a ticket." Amazed, the driver asked for what. The trooper replied, "Tacks evasion."

Apple Birthday: A Timely Salute - Time magazine recently featured the founding of Apple in its issue dedicated to '80 Days That Changed The World.' The magazine talks of how two college dropouts named Steve began a business that would come to change the world through computers. Steve Jobs (Steve) and Steve Wozniak (Woz) began Apple computers on April Fools Day, 1976. As of April 1, 2003 the company is 27 years old. - from MacMinute and Time

MS Security Skeptics - A survey put out by Forrester Research showed that many IT security experts do not trust the security of their Microsoft products. Seventy four percent of those interviewed had attacks within the last year and were doubtful of the security of their Microsoft software. Though some experts believe Microsoft is just a scapegoat being blamed for security problems, the company continues to release patches to fix their software insecurities. Really? At The Top - G'day, mates! Time for another Wednesday Desktop Edition along with some Community News and Banana bits of humor from Mr. Westby. If this edition seems a bit abbreviated or perhaps disjointed, it's probably 'cuz the Monkie (yes, that would be me) has a bit of a belly ache. Perhaps too many green bananas. But no matter. Let's get to the GUI goodies and have some fun!

New GOO!

New Desktops - Wowzers! The great desktops just keep filling up the Gallery with pixels that will please the pickiest of pointy headed GUI nerds (did I just say that?). Let's open the ole eyelids and grab a gander at this week's selection of 6 succulent desktop delectables!

Desktops - Gettin' down and funky with a gooooeee rendition of the Apple logo is Apple Funk from Michele Bugliaro. This psychedelic number is a real mind blower that the preview just doesn't do justice. Best in LARGE quantities!

Ed Allen gives us yet another turn from EA Design with Wide Open. Ed takes the swirl of simplicity and adds his touch of excellence for a piece that should be distributed as a standard selection with Mac OSX. Great stuff!

Getting a handle on the musical side of things is Michael Heath with 6 String Guitar Handle. This is yet another great selection from Michael's professional snap shot abilities that will have your desktop strumming all the way home to Aussie land!

 

3-D Rendered - A beautiful comes your way from the Terragen rendered galleries of Terraholic.net titled Caribbean Dream. Martin Schulte crafts a magnificent desktop window into the sunset with this awe inspiring selection. Just don't drift off too much!

Get ready to rock your socks off! From ShiftedReality is Rocks, another earth-moving, eye-popping work of art by Juegen Eilts. This fine piece was created with Vue d'Esprit 4.1 and is deserving of exhibit in the best in art galleries. WOW!

Finishing things up with a hot one is Crawl I from MacMonkies' Bradford Wiles. This selection sizzles with heat of a weird looking cyber-space web crawler looking thingy. Well, that's where the title came from anyway! Enjoy!

A driver tucked this note under the windshield wiper of his automobile. "I've circled the block for 20 minutes. I'm late for an appointment, and if I don't park here I'll lose my job. Forgive us our trespasses."

When he came back he found a parking ticket and this note: "I've circled the block for 20 years, and if I don't give you a ticket, I'll lose my job. Lead us not into temptation."

A woman applying for a job in a Florida lemon grove seemed way too qualified for the job.

Share And Share Alike - Al Gore, former US Vice President, has been given 30,000 stock options since joining the Apple board of Directors on March 19, 2003. Gore, 55, can exercise options for 10,000 shares each in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Providing options for board members is standard Apple procedure. Though Gore was seen with a PC laptop while campaigning, he is now a Mac user according to Apple. That ought to be enough shares to ensure the popular vote...recount anyone? - from Yahoo

Sound Screens: Hearing Is Believing - NXT, the British company behind flat-panel technology, has now come up with a computer monitor that acts as a speaker without compromising picture quality. These monitors would eliminate the need for external speakers. Japan currently sells two computer models with this type of monitor through electronics company NEC. NXT says "SoundVu" technology can also be applied to flat screen TVs. - from BBC News

A lawyer died and arrived at the pearly gates. To his dismay, there were thousands of people ahead of him in line to see St. Peter. To his surprise, St. Peter left his desk at the gate and came down the long line to where the lawyer was, and greeted him warmly.

Then St. Peter and one of his assistants took the lawyer by the hands and guided him up to the front of the line, and into a comfortable chair by his desk. The lawyer said, "I don't mind all this attention, but what makes me so special?"

St. Peter replied, "Well, I've added up all the hours for which you billed your clients, and by my calculation you must be about 193 years old!"
