the contest is to energize the Macintosh icon community and generate
a lot of fun in the process. But we also give away very cool
prizes as well.

MonkieNews! - Lotsa stuff happening this week from
Blazing Apples to Pixelpalooza Pleasure! Let's get to the Monkie
stuff and have a great time with the rest!
- New in the Gallery! - We have quite the variety this
week in the Gallery.
ETC - Our ETC Department brings
us a very interesting submission titled LAUNCHER68
(AKA Patriot) from Chris Reich, one of our Nation's defenders.
Here's a little more on the pic:
The picture shows a Patriot launcher at sunset. Our job
is to protect the air base and Kuwait City from incoming Scud
missiles launched from Iraq or Iran. As a secondary mission we
can also shoot down aircraft but our Air Force gets nervous when
we shoot at planes. So we can only shoot at planes if they shoot
at us first. Which is a long shot since in a happy world our
AF can take out anything that their AF has.
3-D! - Ed Allen heads up our 3D
Department with another brilliant piece titled Light
Years.
Also of 3 Dimensions are Out of Time,
Sunset Strip, and Eruption.
Desktop of the Stars! - Bringing up the rear is a nice
desktop for all you star gazers called Starry
Night. Enjoy!
- Link Up - New in our Links Department
this week is none other than Ed Allen's EA Design! Scurry
on over and make your eyes happy!
- This Is It - This is the last week we will be mirroring
the MacMonkies site at mac.com and Topcities
(providing that the Monkie Head pulls his fingers from his ears
and makes the appropriate appropriations!). The URL to keep handy
is of course www.macmonkies.com.
Thanks for your patience during this transition!
Pixelpalooza - This Friday, February 1st, marks the
beginning of The Icon Factory's
annual icon design contest - Pixelpalooza!
This year's contest promises to be the best yet with entries
in three submission categories; Illustrative, 3D and Mac OS X.

Break On Through -Apple announced their new G4 line
up this last Monday:
800MHz, 933MHz, and Dual1GHz
The top-of-the-line model features the Gigahertz barrier breaking
dual GHz G4
processors delivering 15 billion floating point operations per
second! They are also armed with the NVIDIA GeForce4 graphics,
"the fastest personal computer ever for creative professionals,"
according to Philip Schiller, senior vice president of Worldwide
Product Marketing. All new Macs come with OSX as the default
startup operating system and OS9 for running Classic applications.

iSpy iMac - R.D. Bridges of Houston recently recovered
his sister's stolen iMac using Timbuktu Pro, a program by Netopia
that allows computers to be
run by remote control. First Bridges obtained an Apple script
that would erase his sister's personal files so no one could
get into them, and ran it when the iMac was online. He also put
a startup screen on it that flashed "Stolen iMac."
Then he used the program Etherpeek, a software program that records
IP packets, to track the domain to AOL. He then reconfigured
AOL's dial-up connection by entering his phone number as the
primary dial-up number and his sister's phone number as the back-up.
Their Caller ID's soon showed the number of the person using
the iMac, and police were able to use it to track down a woman
who said she got the iMac from "some guy." According
to Bridges "the woman was charged with possession of stolen
property and given one year's probation." Bridges initially
put Timbuktu Pro on his sister's computer so he could help her
from across town. Turns out it helped her in more ways than one.

Who Let The Hogs Out? - Officers in Christchurch, New
Zealand received a call reporting that a house was being burglarized.
The "victims" reported that they heard sawing noises
as the burglars entered the house. Police arrived on the scene
at 4:30am only to find the culprits to be two hedgehogs mating.
"They were described as two prickly hedgehogs doing what
comes naturally at 4.30 in the morning," commented Senior
Sergeant Ian Freeman. Case closed.. - from

Beware of Watchdog - The
American Antitrust Institute (AAI) will be holding a press conference
this Thursday regarding a lawsuit they plan to bring against
Microsoft and the US Department of Justice (DOJ). The AAI is
an antitrust watchdog group who believes Microsoft and the DOJ
"avoided" or "offered incomplete or misleading
information" regarding the Tunney Act process and that a
settlement was reached in which Microsoft was smiled upon a bit
too much. Sounds like this dog's bite is worse
than its bark.! - from The
Register
Somebody's Watchin' Me - Spector, an application that
records everything a user does on their computer, is now available
for Mac. It's like installing a spy inside the Mac. It works
by taking thousands of pictures so the user can see exactly what
children, spouses, or employees have been doing on the computer
-- online or offline. The program is not yet compatible with
Mac OS X, but will run using Mac OS 8.0 or 9.0. -
from Spectorsoft
Free As A Bird - Two doves were released during the
Pope's weekly public address. One flew away over St. Peter's
Square, and the other flew right past the Pope and back into
the window of the Vatican. After fluttering about the room a
bit, the dove was released a second time. The doves were to symbolize
peace and were dedicated to the children of war. Is
dis bird comin' or goin'? - from
Ananova

Have you Heard?
Perfecting X - Word has it that the latest build of
Mac OSX 10.2 is very stable, and has noticeably improved performance.
The 6B11 build of Mac OSX 10.2 was recently seeded and seems
to have less incidence of beachball cursors popping up (not to
mention the occasional cuss word) as well as more overall quickness
when working in applications. Also said to be added to the new
version is the more extensive use of Contextual Menus and the
addition of "mini-windows." Mac OS 10.2 build 6B11
is still in mid development, but will likely make a notable difference
for Mac OS X users once released.
Also in the X buzz is Mac OS X 10.1.3. Some are reporting
that this latest version of OSX could be out within the next
week or two.

EXCUSE ME! (Part I)
Excuse notes from parents (with their original spelling)
collected by schools from all over the country:
My son is under a doctor's care and should not take P.E. today.
Please
execute him.
Please excuse Lisa for being absent. She was sick and I had
her shot.
Dear School: Please exscuse John being absent on Jan. 28,
29,30, 31, 32,
and also 33.
Please excuse Gloria from Jim today. She is administrating.
Please excuse Roland from P.E. for a few days. Yesterday he
fell out of a
tree and misplaced his hip.
John has been absent because he had two teeth taken out of
his face.
Carlos was absent yesterday because he was playing football.
He was hurt
in the growing part.
Megan could not come to school today because she has been
bothered by
very close veins.
Chris will not be in school cus he has an acre in his side.
Please excuse Ray Friday from school. He has very loose vowels.
AGELESS POETRY
My face in the mirror
Isn't wrinkled or drawn.
My house isn't dirty
The cobwebs are gone.
My garden looks lovely
And so does my lawn.
I think I might never
Put my glasses back on.
ONLINE ADDICTION (Part II)
You know you've been online too long when:
Your spouse now complains of you moving your fingers in your
sleep instead of talking.
Your kids are eating cereal morning, noon, and night.
When someone says, "What did you say?" you reply, "Scroll
up!"
You find yourself sneaking away to the computer in the middle
of the night when your spouse is asleep.
You turn down the lights & close the blinds so people won't
know you're on-line again.
You know more about your AOL friends' daily routines than you
do your own spouse's.
You find yourself lying to others about your time on-line &
when they complain that your phone was busy you claim it was
off the hook.
You have an identity crisis if someone is using a screen name
close to your own.
You would rather tell people that your bloodshot eyes are from
partying too much than the truth (online all night).
You change your screen names so much that you have to look at
your own profile to see who you are.
You go into labor and you stop to type a special E-mail to let
everyone know you're going to be away and how you're feeling.
You marry your cyber boyfriend/girlfriend and you both sit at
your own computers & chat to each other every night from
across the room.
You type messages to people while you are on the phone with them
at the same time.
You understand the humor in all of these jokes because you have
committed then yourself!
Your dog leaves you.
COMPUTER JARGON
I know UNIX, PASCAL, C, FORTRAN, COBOL, and nineteen other
high-tech words!
PRISONER OF WORK
In prison, you get your own toilet. At work you have to share.
In prison you can watch T.V. and play games. At work you get
fired for watching T.V. and playing games.
In prison you get time off for good behavior. At work you
get rewarded for good behavior with more work.

Monkie Tongue |
What is this?! Two weeks runnin' that
the rattle mouth Monkie butt has nothing to say?! Well, in all
honesty, I ALWAYS have something to say!
=)
But in the interest of time and health, I will
firmly place an ample portion of duct tape over the loudest voiced
opening on the ape face.
I am sure I will make up for it elsewhere!
Take Care!
