Cyber Security - Last Thursday the House of Representatives passed a bill that would grant universities $800 million to offer their students courses in computer security. This is a measure in hopes to protect our Nation's computers from hackers. Also, as Representative Lamar Smith (R-Texas) said: "In this new age, we must have training both for a new generation of cyber warriors whose most important weapon is not a gun, but a laptop." The United States is one of three countries that is already training their soldiers through the internet, thus computer security is a must. The $800 million bill was passed 400-12. - from Excite

And Justice for All? - Though Microsoft and the Department of Justice may be Gavelhappy with the antitrust settlement they reached, they may need to reconsider and make some changes in order to please the public and judge Coleen Kollar-Kottely. When opened for public comment, 15,000 comments were received against the settlement, while only 7,500 for it. Judge Kollar-Kottely has scheduled a hearing early in March to see what Microsoft and the Department of Justice can come up with. - from The Register

Freaked Out French Fry Frenzy! - Just when you thought Heinz had gone all the way to the funny farm with green and purple ketchup, now they have taken their zaniness one step further. John Carroll, managing director of North American potatoes and snacks for Heinz, explains that Heinz decided to ask "kids what would make them want to eat more French fries." From that simple inquiry, Heinz came up with 50 cool ideas and narrowed them down to five. Heinz will present the new line of frozen potatoes reflecting kids' ideas as early as May of this year. New French Fry Flavors will include: Fries

Sour cream and chives, cinnamon flavored French fries, Kool Blue and Chocolatey Cocoa Crispers French fries, and some fancy tator tots called Crunchy Rings.

You can take those flavors all the way to the funny farm! Makes my tummy turn just thinking about it! - from CNews

Sensor Sensation - Fovean Inc. has released a revolutionary new chip for digital cameras called the Foveon X3. The chip gets the name Foveon X3 because it "captures red, green and blue light at each pixel... capturing three times the color resolution of comparable image sensors found in today's digital cameras." This results in "brilliantly sharper images" and "enhanced color." The image sensors on the Foveon X3 also allow for Variable Pixel Size, which "can be configured instantaneously on the camera." Says Jim Lau, Foveon's CEO, "Pixel for pixel, Foveon X3 based digital cameras will deliver higher quality images than any other image sensor." - from Foveon

Good to the Last Crunch! - When Australian aerial free stylist Jacqui Cooper Roachfractured her vertebra recently, she drank Diet Coke with crushed cockroaches in it to heal more quickly. She says it drew the "bad" blood from her injury and she was doing sit-ups within three weeks after drinking the "potion". "It wrecks your stomach inside but it fixed my back," she said. Cooper is favored for Olympic Gold and will compete on February 18. - from Yahoo

Nasty Boy - While Janet Jackson was giving a concert in New York recently, nineteen-year-old Mario Backman decided to go on an "Escapade" through her dressing room. He was a "Nasty" boy, taking "some stuffed animals, an FDNY cap and correspondence." But when Janet's managers found him, they told Mario this isn't "All For You"! So he was charged with third-degree theft and told "Let's Wait A While" by the judge, as he was ordered to return to court the next Monday. - from Excite

Have you Heard?

G5 on the Side? - Word is buzzing about that it may be a while before we see the likes of the new G5 chip (possibly as late as next year). However, it is being said that the G4 still has lots of life left. With news of the chip being able to communicate with the memory at "full bus speed," this would be good news indeed, since a sluggish system bus bottle-necks info in a real hurry.

On the flip-side, however, it is still quite possible that the G5 could see light before the year's end, and the new-improved G4 could simply find its way into lower-end models. Right now it certainly seems to be a game of strategy VS. technology. And the winner is...

ADAM'S SUIT

A little boy opened the big and old family Bible with fascination, and looked at the old pages as he turned them. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible, and he picked it up and looked at it closely. It was an old leaf from a tree that had been pressed in between the pages. "Momma, look what I found," the boy called out. "What have you got there, dear?" his mother asked. With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered: "I think it's Adam's suit!"

CAT'S AND DOGS

ONLINE ADDICTION (Part IV)

You know you've been online too long when:

You don't even notice anymore when someone has a typo.

You enter a room and 23 people greet you with ((hugs)) or **kisses**

You stop typing whole words and use things like ppl, dunno and lemme.

Your voicemail/answering machine message is "BRB, leave your s/n & I will TTYL."

You type faster than you think.

You got your psychiatrist addicted to AOL too and are now undergoing therapy in private rooms instead of at his office.

You want to be buried with your computer when it dies or vice versa.

You actually enjoy the fact that you are addicted.

You can actually read & follow all the names of the cast that scrolls up your TV screen at the end of a movie

People say, "If it weren't for your super reflexes in your eyes and fingers, you would have been classified as a vegetable!"

You dream in "text."

Being called a Newbie is a "MAJOR" insult.

There is absolutely no interesting chat in any room & you're really bored.

You don't want to leave in case you miss something.

You double click your TV remote.

THE GOOD OLD DAYS

Remember when:

An application was for employment; a program was a TV show; a cursor used profanity; a keyboard was a piano.

Memory was something you lost with age; a CD was a bank account; a hard drive was a long road trip.

A web was a spider's home, and a virus was the flu!

THE REAL DEAL

It took me a while to realize that the real deal is to be able to be enough of a person on your own to know when somebody loves you and cares about you.

 Editor's Notes

Monkie Heart

Let's face it:
Now more than ever we have the need to truly Love one another.
Now more than ever, that call is harder than ever.
But you truly won't know how much your neighbor needs your love till you walk a mile in his shoes.

Even more so...

You won't truly know how much until you have to wash your neighbor's SOCKS!
But ya know, all humor aside, that's when you know that you are really able to love your neighbor.
Think about it.

Now I will step down off my soap box.

Happy Heart Day!
