MonkieNews! - Good Golly Miss Molly! It has certainly
proven to be a long night! We have decided to make OSX
the default OS for our main Monkie Computer. As a result, we
are still sifting through piles of archives and portions of partitions
attempting a delightful dish called organization! In the
process, it has slowed us down a tad. But when it is over, things
will run quite Spifforfluous! And, while digging through
the virtual boxed-up archives, we actually found some pics that
should have been posted long ago!
Enough of the Monkie babb1e! Let us begin!
- New in the Gallery! - We have quite the variety of
new and "used" desktops in the Gallery
this week! Let's have a looksy!
Show YourColors! - Mr. Todd Darland
shows his patriotic spirit with a spectacular piece of work titled
Olympic Pride! Thanks Todd!
3-Dimensional Diversity! - We have yet another pair
of superb works from the Dynamic Duo at EA
Design! This week's entries include Equal
Love by Ed Allen and Life In A
Glasshouse IV by Alan Sherwood. Thanks gentlemen!
Also in the 3-D Department we have
a glowing piece from Mr. Monkie Head himself titled Near
the End.
Digital Desktops - In the Area of Desktops we have
2 hot new entries called Red Hot
and Day In The Life.
Naturally Yours - Bringing up the rear in our slightly
used Nature Section is Casper
Mountain. Why slightly used? This is another of those previously
unavailable selections that just got dug out from the archives.
Check 'em out!
- The Newest Link - We've added Just Plain GUIto
our Links Page. Link up and have a look!
New Desktops - Ethereal
Creations is pleased to bring you two beautiful new desktops.
One is a Biblical rendering and the other is a nature desktop.
The site news page has been updated as well so stop by and check
out their latest offerings.
Your Mac Life - The
Iconfactory founder, Corey Marion, can be heard on

Shawn King tonight at 9pm EST! For more details, head

While you're there, be sure to enter your submissions to this
year's Pixelpalooza
icon designing contest!
Advertise Different - "Think Different" has
been Apple's slogan since 1997. However, that may be changing
soon. The slogan Apple recently started using is "Everything
Is Easier On A Mac." The "Think Different" slogan
does not appear on the newest Mac items. To view the web page
displaying the "Easier" slogan, CLICK
HERE.
Side-By-Side With Simulcam - For those of you who have
been following the Olympics, you may have noticed that each of
the judges has a computer monitor nearby. That is because NBC opted to use
the "Simulcam" to cover the 2002 Olympics. Using the
software of Dartfish, the Simulcam records events digitally.
Judges can use these digital recordings to pull up any point
of the athletes' performances to review them. Telecasters can
use the software to play two separate performances side-by-side
so we at home can view performances simultaneously as we watch
on our TV screens. The athletes and coaches have also taken advantage
of this software to compare athletes to themselves as well as
others to determine how to better their performances. Simulcam
technology was first used in Vail, Colorado to cover the World
Championships for skiing in 1999. - from Wired
Apples for Arnold - The new Arnold Schwarzenegger movie,
"Collateral Dam age,"
has several quick shots of Mac machines all through it. The movie
contains old Studio Displays as well as G3 PowerBooks, and there
is one scene in which the Mac OS is shown in use repeatedly.
Schwarzenegger himself is shown using one of the G3 PowerBooks
to locate terrorists. "Collateral Damage"was completed
months ago, but the release was delayed due to its terrorist
theme. - from Macobserver
Chips Ahoy! - Brazilian
politician Cunha Lima has announced his desire to be implanted
with a computer chip similar to the chips that are already implanted
into animals. "I want to be the first Brazilian to be chipped.
I want to be the first politician to be chipped," he says.
He intends to get the "VeriChip" implanted as soon
as it is approved in Brazil. The VeriChip is slightly larger
than a grain of rice, holds 128 characters and can be scanned
from four feet away. The advantages of the chip include the availability
of health histories and identifying crime victims. The disadvantage
is lack of privacy. There is also a family in Florida who has
volunteered to be the first "chipped" family once it
is approved by the FDA. The maker of the "VeriChip"
is trademarking the name "The Chipsons" for the Florida
family. Sounds like a chip off the old dumb
block. - from Wired
With or Without IE - Another interesting twist in the
Microsoft settlement case came
about when Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly ordered that states be
given the source code to Microsoft's Operating System -- Windows.
States are interested in proving that Windows is capable of running
without Internet Explorer (IE), but Microsoft has contended that
Windows will not run without IE. Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly's
comment was, "It seems to me that if your side has access
to it (the code), then the other side, frankly, should have access
to it." - from The
Register
Pump Up Da Power! - AladdinPower will soon put out
a battery re-charger that is four times more powerful than their
hand-powered battery charger ($60). The StepCharger ($150) will
be powered by foot and will provide 20 minutes worth of laptop
power for 5 minutes of pumping. It is the size of a paperback
book, weighs 10.5 ounces and "provides up to six watts charge
at 18 Volts DC." The StepCharger will be able to re-charge
phones and cameras as well as laptops. Pump
up the jams - pump it up - keep your feet a thumpin'!! - from
The
Register
Jailhouse Crock - A thirty-year-old man was accidentally
left in a Belgian jail cell for three days due to an error in the
arrest log. The cells have cameras in them, but the monitors
only show part of the cell room. The man was noticed when another
prisoner was being put in the cell next door, and was taken to
the hospital immediately. He was in good health despite having
no food or water for three days. - from
Excite

Have you Heard?
The Buzz in Brief - There is certainly plenty of buzz
wording about concerning possibilities facing the future of the
Mac. In brief:
- Titanium PowerBook could sport a black "finish."
Other colors could include copper and bronze.
- iBook could see beefier materials.
- Macromedia is expected to release Flash MX (for OSX) in late
March or April.
- The immediate future of the G5? Is that chip taking "the
5th" again?!
Of course, most are punctuated with a big question
mark. Keep your Bananas peeled!

ONLINE ADDICTION (Part V...Does it EVER end?)
You know you've been online too long when:
You can now type over 70 wpm.
You think about starting a 12-step recovery group for AOL
junkies.
You are on the phone a minute and need to do something else
& say "BRB" or "BBL."
You check your E-mail and forget you have real mail (a.k.a.
snail mail).
You go into withdrawals during dinner.
You spend at least 30 minutes making sure you say goodbye
to everyone in a room.
You stop speaking in full sentences.
You have gone into an unstaffed Tech Support room & ended
up "giving" tech support to other AOLers.
You have to be pried from your computer by the "Jaws
of Life".
You know what a "snert" is.
You set your kitchen on fire while cooking dinner because
you wanted to "check your mail" and while there you
"just wanted to see who was online."
You meet people from AOL in public and you have no idea what
their real name is, so you call them by their screen name.
You've even gotten on an airplane just to meet some folks
face-to-face.
When seeing someone you wish to meet, your second thought
is wishing.

FOOLS GAME
A common mistake people make when trying something completely
foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!
IT'S ALL RELATIVE
Remember: Your relatives had no choice in the matter either.

There are days when it takes all you've got just to keep up
with the losers.

Short Monkie |
Oh yes...
You probably already saw this one coming. But due to the lack
of timeliness in publishing this week's edition of MacMonkies,
I will save what energies are left and get the Monkie Butt in
gear.
Indeed I hate delays, but more so
hate to keep you waiting.
With all humility, please accept my
apologies for today's delay!
