PC Strip - Start looking for OS-free PCs on the shelves
at Walmart. Walmart is interested
in carrying OS-free PCs because they can sell them for less,
and also to give the buyer the option of using the OS of their
choice. Microsoft is not crazy about the idea. They will not
lose other vendors because of it, but they will have to stay
on good terms with Walmart if they hope to persuade them to sell
all their PCs with the Windows OS on them in the future. The
disadvantage Walmart faces is that they might end up purchasing
multiple copies of Windows XP in order to make that OS available
to consumers. Me thinks Bill might throw a
fit over this one!- from The
Register
Turn, Turn, Turn - Another turn in favor of Napster has
come about. Judge Marilyn Patel is now questioning a possible
monopoly made up of the five record companies who are suing Napster.
According to the judge,"These ventures look bad, smell bad
and sound bad. If Napster is correct, these plaintiffs are attempting
the near monopolization of the digital distribution market."
If Napster can prove the monopoly, then the record companies'
lawsuit could be invalid. Gee, now what might
a monopoly be?- from Yahoo
Every Move You Make - Microsoft
has again encountered controversy related to one of its applications.
Media Player 8 tracks the music that users listen to as well
as the movies they watch. Microsoft claims that this information
is used for marketing purposes. They also claim that it can help
to track piraters. Media Player 8 is included with Windows XP.
The Mac version of Media Player does not track users. - from Lycos
Mobile Mishaps - A recent survey put out by Continental
Research of Britain showed that for as many mobile phones that
people reported stolen, there were even more phones that were
lost by their owners. The report showed that 1.3 million people
had their phones stolen while 1.6 million people lost, or broke,
their own phones. The most common ways that people lost their
phones were, in order of incidence: dropping them down the toilet
(600,000 people), dropping them into their drinks (400,000 people)
and putting them in with their laundry (200,000 people). Sounds like talk down the toidy bowl to me!- from
Excite
Eye On iMac - PC Magazine has a lot of praise for Apple's
new iMac, stating that "it's an exceptionally well-designed
product at a reasonable
price." Some features that particularly impressed them were
the screen resolution, the quiet fan and the pre-loaded programs
iDVD, iPhoto and iTunes. "You'll find you won't need to
read a manual," they said, regarding the user-friendly programs.
Perhaps the best comment paid Apple was the magazine's comment
concerning their new Mac converts: "More than a few die-hard
Windows PC users in our labs said they'd finally consider buying
a Mac." - from PC
Magazine
Pay Per Stream -
It is being recommended by a panel put together by the U.S.
Copyright Office that online radio stations pay 7 cents per song
to stream music. The recommendation will be up for 60 days of
public comment before it is decided upon. For AOL, this would
add up to $224,000/month, as they stream approximately 160 million
songs/month. The charge of 7 cents per song would also be retroactive.
- from CNews
Bad News Beat Up Bears - The Ueno Zoo in Tokyo, Japan
holds semi-annual polar bear drills. The drills are designed
to teach children what to do in the event that a polar bear would
break out of the zoo. "Real breakouts have occurred,"
says zoo employee Naoki Tabata. During the drills, zoo employees
pretend to catch the escaped polar bear (a person dressed up)
and tranquilize it. Six-year-old Miyo Fujioka says that if a
polar bear really did escape, "I'd get my brother who's
learning karate to go and beat it up." -
from Excite

Have you Heard?
Can You Hear Me Now? - Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Attention
all audio recording buffs. Though our information is limited,
we've done a piddle of digging regarding future Audio utilities
for Mac OSX:
Echo Digital Audio, makers of Mona, Layla24, and Gina24,
have drivers for OSX in the works. However, no release date was
available.
Steinberg, makers of Cubase VST/32, have a version
planned for OSX. No release date was available at press time.
However, the most recent version for both Mac and PC is available
HERE.
Feel free to drop

other Mac products!

A: OREO Speedwagon!

Duct tape won't fix that.
ONLINE ADDICTION (Part VI...Final Installment. It's
About Time!)
You know you've been online too long when:
When seeing someone you wish to meet, your second thought
is wishing they'd be on AOL so you don't have to meet them in
person.
You have a vanity car tag with your screen name on it.
You no longer type with proper capitalization, punctuation,
or complete sentences.
You have met over 100 AOLers.
When meeting a stranger, you ask for their profile. If they
have a profile you ask them for an age/sex/location check.
You keep telling yourself to Get a Life.
When someone online says BRB, gotta go pee, you ask them to
go for you, and think they can.
You understand the humor in all of this.
REVOLUTION
Q: How many lead guitarists does it take to change
a light bulb?
A: One. The guitarist holds the light bulb and the
rest of the world revolves around him.
THAT NEW MATH
The math teacher saw that Johnny wasn't paying attention in
class. She called on him and asked, "Johnny! What are 2
and 4 and 28 and 44?"
Johnny replied, "CBS, NBC, HBO, and the Cartoon Network."
LYSDEXIC HUMOR
Did you hear about the dyslexic, agnostic insomniac?
He stayed up all night wondering if there was a dog.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF MEDICINE
I have an earache.
2000 B.C. - Here, eat this root.
1000 A.D. - That root is heathen, say this prayer.
1850 A.D. - That prayer is superstition, drink this
potion.
1940 A.D. - That potion is snake oil, swallow this
pill.
1985 A.D. - That pill is ineffective, take this antibiotic.
2000 A.D. - That antibiotic is artificial. Here, eat
this root.
A HORSE, OF COURSE
Q: What did the horse say when he fell?
A: I've fallen and I can't giddy up!
IF MICROSOFT MADE TOASTERS...
Every time you bought a loaf of bread, you would have to buy
a toaster. You wouldn't have to take the toaster, but you'd still
have to pay for it anyway. Toaster '02 would weigh 15,000 pounds
(requiring a reinforced steel countertop), draw enough electricity
to power a small city, take up 95% of the space in your kitchen,
would claim to be the first toaster that lets you control how
light or dark you want your toast to be, and would secretly interrogate
your other appliances to find out who made them. Everyone would
hate Microsoft toasters, but nonetheless would buy them since
most of the good bread only works with their toasters.
IF APPLE MADE TOASTERS...
It would do everything the Microsoft toaster does, but five
years earlier.

a smile on an Ape Face? Check out MacMonkies' Submission

Nope! No words of wisdom or utterances
of foolishness (unless, of course, you consider this entire Edition
a Fool's Delight!).
I will simply say that the Bean Head
and I are enjoying every moment of company from every last visitor
and contributor that has graced the walls of the little Monkie
Village.
