Also in the area of the multiple dimensions is another piece
from MacMonkies called Not My Cup.
ETC! - Lastly, but certainly not leastly, is an extra-fine

Best of the
Mac Web - Here's your chance to rate 50 of the best and best-known
independent Mac-related sites at the Low
End Mac's 3rd Best

Making the Grade - Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, ranks 413
on the Forbes list of
billionaires. His net worth is listed at $1.1 billion. Though
he co-founded Apple, much of his gain is due to Pixar. The Forty
Six-year-old college drop-out is also on a number of other lists,
including World's Richest People 2001, 800 Best Paid CEOs 2001
and 400 Richest Americans 2001. - from Forbes
Beware of Britney! - A Britney Spears computer virus was
detected on the net last Thursday. The virus carries an attachment
which masquerades as a picture of Britney Spears. Though it has
only affected a few computers in Europe so far, officials are
concerned that it might spread quickly because of the name Britney
Spears, which is one of the most popular names typed into search
engines. The virus is called either VBS/Britney-A or VBS--BRITNEYPIC.A.
Oops! She did it again!- from TechTV
If I Only Had A Brain! - Microsoft has made a deal to
use their software, Windows
CE, to run the in-dash computer on t he BMW AG's new 7-Series sedan. According to the
director of Microsoft's automotive business unit, Gonzalo Bustillos,
Microsoft has Windows CE in 13 vehicle lines and will have Windows
CE in nine more vehicle lines by the end of the year. "Vehicle
computing is going to be there," said Bustillos. "The
only questions are when, and how the models may become a reality."
Gads! Talk about breaking out all the Windows
in a car that always crashes! - from Yahoo
Bombs Away! - Haroldo Renato Mota of Brazil got a bit
of a shocking surprise from his dog Chumbinho. The dog
is an excellent retriever, and brought him a smoking grenade
last Wednesday. "He dropped it on the floor and smoke began
to come out of it," says Mota. Brazilian police officers
detonated the grenade. Chumbinho has been known to bring
many things home but, according to Mota, never money. - from Excite
One Small Step For Microsoft - The next step for Microsoft
in the four-year-old antitrust
case is to call several witnesses to show that Windows cannot
be redesigned to fit the state's demands, and that splitting
Windows into separate versions would be bad for the computer
industry as well as for consumers. The states still plan to argue
that Windows can be successfully redesigned, and that Microsoft
must do so to remedy their monopolization over other companies.
However, Microsoft will argue that "the company would be
forced to pull its latest Windows computer operating systems
off the market and be unable to develop new systems." The
hearings will be held next week, and it is uncertain which way
judge Kollar-Kotelly will lean. Maybe Microsoft
should also point out that Windows never crashes. Mmm Hmm.
- from The
Washington Post
The Jackson Jinx - Michael Jackson did not perform at
the Grammy Awards or the American Musical Awards (AMA) this year.
There was a big toss-up over which show Michael would perform
on, because according to Recording Academy policy, artists who
perform at the American Music Awards cannot also perform at the
Grammys. Dick Clark, producer of AMA, sued Michael Green, Grammy
Executive for $10 million citing unfair competition due to this
policy. Jackson is a friend of Dick Clark. Because of the policy
mentioned above, Jackson was not allowed to play at the AMAs,
because he had agreed to play at the Grammys. Jackson then refused
to perform at the Grammys as well, missing his chance to be seen
on either Awards show. - from AOL
Just Be Nice! - A non-profit program has been implemented
at the National Cathedral School
in Washington designed to make middle school girls be nice to
each other. For years people have concluded that girls are less
aggressive than boys because the focus was on physical break-outs.
But after a study directed by Kaj Bjorkqvist it was concluded
that girls are just as aggressive as boys, but in a different
way. Their aggression is shown mentally by destroying relationships
and reputations. The Empower Program, run by Rosalind Wiseman,
tries to help girls deal with "gossip and cliques and ostracism
and just plain meanness among girls." Nah!
Girls aren't mean...are they? - from The
New York Times

Have you Heard?
TERRA-Dreams Come True! - We recently featured the
site TERRA-Dreams,
a site that features desktops created by Terragen,
a near photo realistic landscape generation and rendering application.
The only down-side to this application is there there currently
is no Mac version available. However, we have recently learned
that the Mac version of Terragen is currently in private
beta testing with a public beta test expected in the near future.
It is expected to run both Classic and OS X.
MacMonkies would like to thank Kara Kelly for

Power in Your Mac! - The move to Mac OSX has been quite
the positive move for all Mac users alike. So much of the new
OS has made Mac the platform of choice with its new features,
look, and its all new core. But perhaps one new feature in OSX
that gets left by the wayside is the Terminal. The average Mac
user tends to feel a bit "squeamish" when mentioning
the Terminal. However, Chris Stone of O'Reilly
Network can help you snuggle up to the Terminal to get comfortable
with its powerful assets. Take a look at:

the Mac OS X Terminal

CHAIN GANG
What's wrong when your spouse nags at you in the front room?
You made their chain too long.
IF OPERATING SYSTEMS WERE AIRLINES
DOS Air: Passengers walk out onto the
runway, grab hold of the plane,
push it until it gets in the air, hop on, then jump off when
it hits
the ground. They grab the plane again, push it back into the
air, hop
on, jump off...
Mac Airways: The cashiers, flight attendants,
and pilots all look the
same, talk the same, and act the same. When you ask them questions
about the flight, they reply that you don't want to know, don't
need
to know, and would you please return to your seat and watch the
movie.
Windows Airlines: The terminal is neat
and clean, the attendants
courteous, the pilots capable. The fleet of Lear jets the carrier
operates is immense. Your jet takes off without a hitch, pushes
above
the clouds and, at 20,000 feet, explodes without warning!
OS/2 Skyways: The terminal is almost
empty - only a few prospective
passengers mill about. The announcer says that a flight has just
departed, although no planes appear to be on the runway. Airline
personnel apologize profusely to customers in hushed voices,
pointing
from time to time to the sleek, powerful jets outside. They tell
each
passenger how great the flight will be on these new jets and
how much
safer it will be than Windows Airlines, but they will have to
wait a
little longer for the technicians to finish the flight systems.
Maybe
until mid-2005. Maybe longer.

SECRET TO A LONG MARRIAGE
The secret to a long marriage is simple. Take the time to
go out to a restaurant two times a week. A candlelight dinner,
soft music and a slow walk home. You go on Tuesdays. Your spouse
goes on Fridays.
BROKEN CAGE
What did the bird say after his cage broke?
"Cheap, cheap!"
KIDS SAY THE DARNEDEST THINGS
A father and his 6-year-old son walked into a bank. When they
got in line the son noticed a very large woman in front of them.
The son tugged at the dad's jacket and said, "Daddy, look!
That lady is huge!" The father replied, "Yes son she's
as big as a truck." About a minute later the large woman's
beeper went off and the kid pushed his father out of the way
and yelled, "Look out dad!!! It's backing up!"
GET DOWN AND BOOGIE!
Q: How do you make a tissue dance?
A: Put a little Boogie in it!
