At The Top
Consumer Reports Favor
Apple - The up-and-coming September
edition of Consumer Reports finds Apple's name in
good taste. They list the 17-inch iMac as number one in LCD monitors,
commenting that "the flat screen's ability to move and tilt
at the touch of the hand elevates the computer's ergonomics far
above those of other Macs and of Windows computers." Apple
is also listed as number one in overall tech support, and Consumer
Reports makes a note that networking is simple if all your computers
are Macs. - from MacCentral
FontAgent 10.1.5 Released

New! Super 8 In The Desktop
Gallery -
This week brings 8 super desktops including Super 8! Does this
Monkie ever quit the dumb desktop humor? When there's great works
like these, mum's the word! ~=x
Desktop Department! - Speaking of Super
8, that's just what Taking
Pictures' Adam Dickson delivers with this great flash from
the past! This is a great piece for your Mac to be picture perfect.

Todd Darland slips in through the out door with another futuristic
piece sportin' the big guns: DNI
Terminal. Get this pic on your desk and get out da way!
3-D Delectables - The multi-talented Melissa from MAJArch
Studios graces us with another outstanding Bryce piece titled Inner
Workings. If this is any indication

Bob
Wiley adds complexity to the three
sides of every story with the intricate piece titled
Triangle. There's enough detail
in this well crafted piece to really put a point on things!
Alan Sherwood brings us another fine work
from the Galleries of EA
Design with Transition.
From Alan's comments:
A minimalist piece designed simply
to show the way people move from one thing to another, changing
opinions, ideals, beliefs. All part of the way we function and
live our lives.
Alan's works speak the words of many.
Ain't it amazing how the older you get,
the more you seem to get stuck in the motion of the moment? Still Motion is another work from
MacMonkies' webmaster Bradford Wiles (Mean Mr. Mustard) with
essentially no real meaning!
As one soon-to-be-Monkie once said, "Shiny
things are so cool!" Opposing Forces is no exception. You're sure to enjoy this shiny
piece from MacMonkies!

Back Jaguar: Rebates Return - Though Amazon.com
has withdrawn their offer taking $50 off Jaguar, the latest version
of Mac OS X (10.2), a $30 rebate is being offered through MacWarehouse. From August
5, 2002, through September 14, 2002, while supplies last, a $30
mail-in rebate will be offered. Jaguar will begin shipping on
August 24, 2002. - from

Tattoo You: Mac Fans Get "Stuck" - Mac fans
have been showing their love and devotion by sticking it
to their skin with tattoos of the Apple computer logo. It was
not Apple's idea to encourage tattoos as a form of lifelong advertising,
but rather the idea of the devoted fans themselves. Other major
companies have inspired tattoos, such as Coca-Cola, Nike and
Harley Davidson, but Apple is the only computer company that
has brought about such inspiration. Some fans sport Apple haircuts
as well. - from Wired
Microsoft Milestones? - Microsoft has taken more action
in compliance with the proposed antitrust settlement. Before
a final settlement is reached, they must:
1. Release Windows XP Service Pack 1, 2. Disclose
internal application programming interfaces (APIs), 3.
Create a communications protocol licensing agreement and 4.
Review licensing arrangements with Internet Service Providers.
Microsoft is promising to reach these four
milestones this month, according to Brad Smith, senior vice president
and general counsel for Microsoft. - from PC
Pro
Cow Pooling - Mary Bond recently came home from shopping
to find a cow standing in her garden swimming pool. Apparently the
cow had walked onto the covered pool and the cover gave way to
the cow's weight. Mary and her husband, Andrew, had no luck trying
to talk the cow out of the pool and had to call the fire brigade,
who put a ramp in the pool. The cow then walked out at her own
leisure. - from Ananova
Against All Odds: Breaking The Burp Barrier - Paul Hunn,
33, is the world record holder for the loudest burp, which measures
118.1 decibels. Hunn tried to beat his record at a "Grossology"
exhibition hosted by London's Science Museum. But after downing
a carbonated beverage and swallowing bunches of air, Hunn only
measured in at 110.5 decibels. His throat then got too sore and
he had to stop. Still, a spokeswoman for the museum said that
"when he heals up he's determined to set a new record." - from iWon

Have you Heard?
The Return of EA Design - The gentlemen residing at EA
Design on the England side of the sea shore are said to be
making a return in the very near future. And just how
long would this be? From the word we've received, it's not long
enough to watch a Banana go bad! It's also been said that the
boys will be back with plenty of great new material and possibly
sporting a new look! No black Bananas here - we'll keep ya posted!
OS9 Boots Get The Axe - To further bury the "boots" of OS9,
eWEEK
reports that Apple will soon introduce hardware that will "prevent
booting into Mac OS 9." Sources say that the boot disability
will be "enforced via a software feature in Pinot, the next
major Mac OS X update after Jaguar (Mac OS X 10.2)." It
is said that the change will not disable the use of OS9 in the
Classic Environment, but will pose a problem for those who need
to boot in OS9 to run hardware driven Classic apps. Apple is
expected to make the "disabling" move in January at
the Macworld Expo in San Francisco.

Monkie
Ramble |
|
I remember standing on
the sidewalk as a little monkie thinkin' I was gonna make friends
with everyone. My feet never left that spot on the concrete.
As a young adult, I recall
thinking that everyone could be friends. My feet have never been
so bruised by that thought, having had its toes stepped on.
Though quickly approaching
that magic age where "life begins," my idealistic feet
haven't moved much. But my understanding of the cold, hard, reality
has.
There's a lot of people
out there that "don't care." And when reality sets
in, it's not that they don't care, it's just that they are afraid
of getting hurt -- just like that little monkie standing on the
sidewalk.
I wish that fear factor
would go away. And then again, I wish my little monkie feet would
move from that place where they still stand after all these years.
