MonkieNews!
MacMonkies' Sweet Sixteen
Icon Edition! - Hard
to believe the Monkie has been up to roughly 16 weeks worth of
icons from some of the web's finest artists! Cool beans! And
this week welcomes another talented artist - Nitehawk Jarrett.
Let's take a gander.
Nitehawk Jarrett
- Sharing the wealth in the Icon
Department is our latest contributor Nitehawk
Jarrett with his latest creation: Retro
Logo Icons. Check out this great set and see just how
old you really think you are!
IHeartNY -
Also with a flare for the nostalgic is IHeartNY's Matthew Bice.
Bewitched is a great set
of 7 from the classic television show of the same name. You even
get a copy of BOTH Darrins in this fine set. NOW how old do you feel? =)
Next up from Matthew is a cool set for 3
of the best OSX web browsers around: Three
Browsers. A small set, but truly cool.
miXthepiX - If you're looking
for clean, how about Bubbles Dock
from the man behind miXthepiX,
Hein Mevissen? This is a great set from Hein that will add plenty
of shine to your OSX experience. How about them scrubbing bubbles?!
And of course things wouldn't be complete
without a great collection of Hein's
Aqua Stuff 3.0.
Flax Creations -
When it comes to innovation and creation,
all "i's" should be pointed in the direction of Flax Creations' Dan
Flax. This guy can find creativity in practically all Things! And did we tell you that
there are plenty of cool Things
is his latest set here at MacMonkies? Now, what was the name
of that cool new set of icon Things
from Mr. Flax? Hmmmm.
Check 'em out!
New In The Gallery: Seven
Second-To-None - This week brings
seven wonderful desktops from our usual pick of excellent artists.
We also welcome another new talent - Bob Wiley. What are
we waiting for? Let's let the eyes have it!
Desktop Department! -
From the cool collections of Taking
Pictures, Mr. Adam Dickson zaps some life into our desktop
show with a great work titled Circuit.
Get yourself grounded and then grab a copy of this great piece!
Now, someone recently said that I seem to
fancy BLUE a bit (I
DO NOT!!!), as many of my desktops
seem to contain a lot of that melancholy colour. Well, in response
to that comment, I simply say, they are obviously mistaken. To
further prove the inaccuracy of this statement, I made a lovely
RED
piece containing lots of un-blues. And with that, I will leave you Alone.
3-D Delectables - Don't get cabled down with boring old desktops.
Cast off them chains with Cables
Away from our latest 3-D contributor Mr.
Bob Wiley. You're bound to like this new piece and more great
work soon to come!
Alan Sherwood contributes another great
piece from his works at EA
Design. Of Manipulation,
Alan says:
A sort of pun if you like, the
fact that I wanted to show the way many people in this world
seem to feed off others, the way we are all used or abused at
some point. The pun being that the piece was rendered in Bryce
then given a sepia style overlay in Photoshop.
You're sure to enjoy this excellent piece
from Alan.
Got Mac? Say WHAT?! Grab yourself a cool
new Mac. Then click on Mac Desk no.2
from Rampant
Mac's Scott Chitwood to make your Mac complete. Don't leave
home without it! Click
on this. Click on you. Click on Mac Desk
no. 2!
Nope. No switchers here. This Monkie started
with Mac and will probably die with
a Mac (you won't pry my Mac from my cold, dead, Monkie toes).
But for all of you who ARE making the big switch, I present to
you The BIG Switch.
The second in a series of three, Tree of Life follows up Autumn.
Somewhere in the mess of things, there is a better answer.
SPECIAL THANKS
To:
Bob, Nitehawk Jarrett, Dan, Hein,
Scott,
Alan, Adam, and Matthew -
It is a privilege and an honor
to display your work!
MANY THANKS!
Have a piece you want to display?

Cheap Cat: Deals On Jaguar - Never mind what the cat drags in. It turns out
that there
are discounts available for Jaguar, the newest version of Mac
OSX. Amazon.com
is offering the new cat for $79 and MacWarehouse
is offering it for $119. Also, if you buy a boxed copy of Mac
OS X 10.1, you can now get Jaguar (Mac OS X 10.2) for only $19.95.
The full price of Jaguar without any discounts is $129. - from MacCentral

Touch By Voice: Voice Recognition In Cars - IBM will be
providing some 2003 Honda Accords with a voice recognition system
beginning September 9th. Drivers will be able to get directions
to a specific street address or to the nearest gas station or
pizza place simply by pressing a "talk" button on their
steering wheels. The system, called "Touch by Voice,"
includes a DVD stored with information and a touch screen that
displays maps. It understands 150 English commands and gives
directions through the car speakers. - from Wired
A Page In History: The New York Times Is Digitized - A
company named ProQuest has
fully digitized copies of The
New York Times from 1851 to 1999. ProQuest used microfilms
and developed software to make the digital Times available exactly
as it appeared when it was published. Subscriptions will be available
through the ProQuest web site to read about the sinking of the
Titanic, the resignation of Nixon, or any of the Times stories
throughout the years. - from

Check Mate! Ancient Chess Piece Found - Archeologists
have dug out what appears
to be the oldest piece of a chess game found to date. The piece
is made of ivory, and is either the king or the queen because
it has a little cross on it. It was found in a Roman palace in
the city of Butrint, Albania, suggesting that the game of chess
was being played in the fifth or sixth centuries, a full five
hundred years earlier than previously thought. - from IWon
Live From NY! It's...John McCain? - Senator John McCain
will be hosting Saturday
Night Live (SNL) this Fall on NBC. McCain doesn't know what to
say in his opening monologue, but he says that being on the show
"impresses my kids." He also pointed out that, according
to recent surveys, young people get a lot of their political
news from SNL, as well as other late night shows. And people tell me that I Monkie around. - from Excite

Have you Heard?
Mac Quads: 4 Times The Fun! - The latest buzz about the Mac web is four times
as much fun as you could imagine! How about a set of FOUR processors
placed nicely in that new enclosure we mentioned
last week? WHOA! And how about a 500MHz RapidIO bus? WOWZEEEEEEEE!
These alleged new units are not expected in the immediate future
(such as in August) by it is being said that they could be here
really soon! - from Mac OS Rumors
New Service Just Around the Corner! - Those darned little Monkie Birds keep whisperin'
in my earz -- Wouldn't ya like ta be an Icon too?! Eh! I just
brushed 'em off and told 'em that I already AM an icon
in MacGeeks 2 by that Sahner dude. But, they stuck
out their tongue and started humming some old Mama's and Papa's
tune like they knew something that I didn't. How could this
possibly be? Boy, will that ever be some mundane day in
Monkie history! Well, as those monkies left the room, one of
them hollered out, "Service with a smile!" What could
possibly be so Icon eyes oriented that ME of all
Monkies wouldn't know the scoop? Oh well. They just continued
on their way singin', "Dumby Dumby -- la la, la la la la..."
If I ever figure out what these Monkicons were up to, I will
be sure to keep you posted!

I Think I'm In Love! - Ever since I moved from OS9 to Mac OSX, I have
had to say good-bye to all my Classic web browser babes and find
a new love. I mean, even Internet Explorer for OSX just doesn't
cut it (hitting "Refresh" on even some of the fastest
sites can be a SLOW experience with IE).
But in walked Chimera

BACK IN BLACK?
Attending a wedding for the first time,
a little girl whispered to her mother, "Why is the bride
dressed in white?"
"Because white is the color of happiness,
and today is the happiest day of her life," her mother tried
