DV Graphics Has More! - Always on the prowl
for new ways to add to your GUI x-perience, Paul Sahner has updated
the archives of DV Graphics
with a brand new icon set titled TV Classics. Plus Paul
has done some house cleaning to make your stay more of a pleasure.
Swing by DV Graphics
and check out the great new stuff!
Ten Dollar Smirk of the Day - Stumpy and his wife Martha went to the State Fair
every year. Every year Stumpy would say, "Martha, I'd like
to ride in that there airplane." And every year Martha
would say, "I know, Stumpy, but that airplane ride costs
ten dollars, and ten dollars is ten dollars." This
year Stumpy and Martha went to the fair and Stumpy said, "Martha,
I'm 71 years old. If I don't ride that airplane this year I may
never get another chance." Martha replied, "Stumpy,
that there airplane ride costs ten dollars, and ten dollars is
ten dollars." The pilot overheard them and said, "Folks,
I'll make you a deal. I'll take you both up for a ride. If you
can stay quiet for the entire ride and not say one word, I won't
charge you, but if you say one word it's ten dollars." Stumpy
and Martha agree and up they go. The pilot does all kinds of
twists and turns, rolls and dives, but not a word is heard. He
does all his tricks over again, but still not a word. They land
and the pilot turns to Stumpy, "By golly, I did everything
I could think of to get you to yell out, but you didn't." Stumpy
replied, "Well, I was gonna say something when Martha fell
out, but ten dollars is ten dollars."

DV Graphics -
Paul Sahner of DV Graphics
has announced the release of a new, easier to navigate icon section.
The old section was a mess! It was one very long page that took
a long time to load (yawn). Adding to the confusion was the lack
of "on-page" previews and links. But now, the new section
spans 7 pages. Every page contains 5 icon sets, each with previews
and download links. The new section comes complete with a full
index and table of contents. All icons are free and available
for immediate download.
Woo hoo!Be sure to check out DV
Graphics newly spiffied up navigation! Go!
Monkie Notes
- The Weekend Editions of MacMonkies may be a tad bit abbreviated
as we are updating from the road. Plus my Monkie fingers just
can't get used to this first generation iBook! Pasta la Taco!=)

We apologize for the down time as we continue to research a solution.
In the mean time, our good friend Paul Sahner from DV

At The Top
Power Mac G4s Upgraded - Apple has announced
it's new line of Power Mac G4s - all with dual processors. No matter
which G4 consumers choose they will have dual-processing power
up to 500MHz faster than the previous line of Power Mac G4s.
The 1.25 GHz model is equipped with the Xserve system controller
and runs Photoshop 90 percent faster than 2.53GHz Pentium 4-based
PCs. Other features include Jaguar (Mac OS X 10.2), Double Data
Rate memory, advanced cache memory, and a SuperDrive on the 1GHz
and 1.25GHz models. Now
that's what I call a double take!

MonkieNews!
New Music! - It's been a while since
the dusty old Audio archives have been
added to. But we dusted off the old Fender Tele in the wee hours
of the morn and played a little 2
AM Blues. This early morning jam was written, performed,
and recorded by Bradford Wiles (AKA Mean Mr. Mustard). You can
grab this file in MP3 format via your browser or downloading
the .sit or .zip file. Let us know what you think!
The "Eighteen and
I Like It" Icon Edition! - Welcome to our 18th Icon Edition! No golf here.
Just a hole-in-one with another great set of icons from some
fantastic artists!
Nitehawk
Jarrett - Mr. Retro himself, Nitehawk
Jarrett, gives us a blast from the past times 2! First up
is a great set of icons from Thundarr
The Barbarian! Even this monkie has to scratch his head to remember
this one!
And next up we have another fine icon set
of classic comic book logos from Hawk titled comICONS.
miX the piX - Speaking of retro,
Hein Mevissen carefully unpacks a set of vintage Fender
Icons. This is a great set to accompany some good old
rock 'n' roll or even a bit o' blues!
Also from the fine works of miX
the piX comes some more of Hein's Aqua specialties with another
cool set - Hein's Home 6.0.
Eye9design -
Keeping a good eye on design is Eye9design's
Patrick O'Kelly with another of his stylistic specialties. This
week we wrap up with another Mercury installment - MercuryLensX
3!
Check 'em out!
8 New Desktops In The
Gallery -
There's something about that number eight! Guess it must be that
it's so well rounded. Let's take a look!
Desktop
Department! - First up is our latest
contributor Jonathan S. Dennison. Jonathan brings us a fantastic desktop work using
Lightwave 3D 6.5 & Photoshop titled Pillers
3.
Coming from a Monkie's brother, Mr. Todd
Darland offers a piece that is perhaps reflective of the good
and bad in us all - Heaven
vs. Hell. Just tells me what a little booger he is! =)
And straight from Jail
comes a Monkie piece originally known as C
Moon Storm. Jail liked the piece, but after a week on his
desk he got bored of the blue, so he changed it. It was done
in Graphic Converter
by killing all saturation, then playing with RGB balance till
he got this - Midnight Blue
(CMS). Very nicely done!
Did someone say blue? Here we go again!
Another blue piece from the Monkie Man himself simply titled
Blue Wavz. Wave good-bye!
3-D
Delight - Breaking out of the mold
but into the cube is the 3-D work titled Cubicles,
another excellent piece from Bob
Wiley. Ahh...cubicle sweet cubicle.
From EA
Design's Alan Sherwood is another of his fine works titled
Order In A Land of Chaos.
Alan describes it this way:
A piece based around my glass
set, the simplicity still holding through but with the tweaks
of some very odd, 'chaotic' landscapes for the surroundings.
My way of showing that there is some hope for our (or possibly
just my) sanity.
Sounds like a drink I once knew called SaniTea!
From
the sisted twistered monkie minds of the old and Bananas comes
a glimpse of hope with the nice 3-D piece titled New
World (yes, this is by the MacMonkie man Mean Mr. Mustard).
And finally, from the monkie of the same
muse of madness comes a dreamy little piece titled In
Your Dreams, a place where anything can happen. Enjoy!
SPECIAL THANKS
To:
Jonathan, Alan, Bob, Todd,
Hawk, Jail, Hein, and Patrick

News On The Net...
Bad Apple: Fraudulent Apple Charges - Computer Software Stores has been taking money
from the credit cards and debit cards of Apple customers. Apple
customers are advised to check their bank statements because
the money is being taken in the name of Apple Computer Ltd. It
is uncertain how the account numbers are being accessed, but
a spokesperson from Apple has assured customers that the money

The King Is Toast - August 16, 2002, marks the 25th anniversary
of the death of Elvis Presley. Maurice Bennett has found his own
special way to pay tribute to the King by making a portrait of
Elvis out of toast. Bennett toasted more than 4,000 pieces of
bread into six different shades and put them together to make
a 62 square foot portrait of Elvis. The project took him two
months. Bennett has also done a toast portrait of the Mona Lisa.

The Rules: Online Dating Guide - Authors Ellen Fein and
Sherrie Schneider, the pair who penned "The Rules"
of dating, have now released "The Rules for Online Dating."
The book, like the original, gives guidelines for women to follow
when dating guys they meet over the internet. Some rules include
"how to create a good screen name" and "an e-mail
is equivalent to a phone call." The book went on sale July
30 and hopes to be as successful as the original. - from Yahoo
The Fuss Over Feiss - Ellen Feiss of the Apple
Switcher Ads has been growing more and more popular. The "'is-she-stoned?'
star" was the subject of many heated debates online after
her ad was released July 17, 2002. Since then many web sites
have been started on her behalf, including Ellen
Feiss, the fan site and Ellen
Fan Club: beep beep beep. She has also been the subject of
many icons and wallpaper pictures. It would seem that Feiss is
the favored switcher thus far. -

Earthships: Living In Trash - The United Kingdom is home
to two new Earthships - homes built out of trash. The idea of building homes
out of trash to conserve energy was thought up by architect Michael
Reynolds twenty years ago. The homes are made of "bottles,
cans and, primarily, old tires stuffed with dirt," and guests
say they are "cheap to run" and "comfortable."
The Earthships can be built in eight days and finished to look
like traditional homes. -

Have you Heard?
New Macs Underwhelm, Jaguar Runs Ahead
- With the announcement of the new
line of G4 Power Macs yesterday, many buzz bitten rumor mongers
were not quite as happy, as the would be expected higher clock
speeds did not appear on the new models. Though the top clock
speed did not reach expectations, information bottle neck solutions
and double just about everything across the board is certainly
nothing to sneeze at.
One thing that Mac users can be happy about
is that Apple is showing good signs of learning from its past
boo boo's. A number of places across the net are reporting that
the next version of OSX, Jaguar, has already reached a number
of retailers, a move that shows Apple is taking steps to be prepared
for the demand for the OS once it is officially released on the
24th of this month. Apple is not only prepared for the sales,
but actually had the GM ready ahead of schedule. And there's
nothing better than a Mac Jaguar that runs ahead of the pack!

More for the Mac -
A long time ago, we recommended heading over to Apple's Download
Page to enhance your Mac experience. And this is a really
great place. But have you dug a little deeper and taken a closer
look at the Icons, Screensavers, etc. section? This is one of the coolest places to find
nothing but the best in icons, screensavers, and other neat stuff
for your Mac.
At the top of the list, you'll find Paul
Sahner's Switchers 3, along with The Iconfactory's Xtra
Drives. Of course you'll find a great selection of screensavers
and miscellaneous stuff to make you mac happy - like Eyeballs
2.1 and BigFoot 2.0.
Apple's Icons,
Screensavers, etc. is simply the place to find fun! And
what more could you want than to have your Mac have fun?!

Says the hardware engineer, "Well,
first let's try swapping the front and rear tires, and see if
that fixes it."
Replies the software engineer, "Naw,
let's just try driving the car again, and maybe the problem will
go away by itself."
