Fall Leaves and Halloween! - Grab your bag and get
ready for the treats over at Rampant
Mac! Scott has 4 awesome new desktops and a seasonal page
full of Fall Leaves and Halloween goodies. Head over and have
a blast!
iSecurity Risk - MacUser
reports that if Apple OSX 10.1 users connect to their iDisk via
the Finder's Go menu, the tool bar in a Finder window, or the
iDisk option in open and save dialog boxes, they risk the security
of their Mac. If using one of these methods to connect, the user's
password is sent over the Internet unencrypted. This is due to
changes in the most recent version of OSX. MacUser
says that this problem can be avoided by connecting "to
your iDisk using the afp protocol; under the Finder's Go menu
select Connect To Server enter the address, 'afp://iDisk.mac.com'."
Also, Apple is aware of this problem.
Beatle for Sale - A letter written by John Lennon,
intended for Paul and Linda McCartney, failed to make the sale.
The letter, written over thirty years, ago went up for bid at
Christie's auction house last Thursday. The letter contained
plenty of four letter words expressing John's anger toward Paul
and the rest of the band for their treatment of Yoko Ono. The
price for this Beatle written letter? A mere $96,000 price tag
was set for minimum bid. However, the highest bid only reached
$77,000. - from Excite
Stamps of Approval - Britain has released new
set of hi-tech "interactive" stamps, which celebrate
a century of Nobel Prizes. Some of the stamps include:
The Medicine stamp - releases the scent of eucalyptus when
scratched.
The Physics stamp - includes a hologram.
The Chemistry stamp - emerges an electrically-charged particle
under the heat of a finger.
The Literature stamp - reproduces the T.S. Eliot poem "The
Ad-dressing of Cats" in words 20 times smaller than a grain
of sand.
The Economics stamp - features a printing process used in 1840
to create the world's first stamp.
The Peace stamp - embosses an image of a dove carrying an olive
branch.
The Nobel Prizes were set up through millionaire Swedish inventor
Alfred Nobel, and will be awarded this month in Stockholm, except
for the Peace Prize, which is awarded in Norway upon Nobel's
request. - from Excite
Busted!
- It's amazing what one will find when they do a little digging
around the web! Take this picture for example. Who might this
smirk-faced young man be? Could it be a '70s college drop-out?
Could this picture be a glimpse of his future plight? Perhaps
a self-fulfilling prophecy? Math whiz kid and computer geek at
large? Multi-billionaire? Perhaps all of the above? We will let
you be the judge! CLICK HERE!
Under Where? - A Norwegian robber tried to hide his
identity by wearing a pair of underwear on his head. The drunken
man handed a note to someone inside the post office that stated
"this is a robbery". The police were able to identify
him, however, because on the back of the note was his wife's
name as well as personal details. Apparently the 47-year-old
did not remember the robbery, though he had noticed a large wad
of money in his living room. - from Excite
It's a Flop! - Intel is asking PC manufacturers to
call it quits on the floppy disk. The storage medium is slow
and outdated for the consumers' current need. This is quite the
"brave" move considering the PC platform ridiculed
Apple for doing away with in 1998. Apple was made way for using
USB and FireWire and making them standard on both sides of the
industry. - from MacUser

Have you Heard?
Buzz Off - We recently reported that the up-and-coming
G5 processor for Apple could be out as early as the first part
of 2002. Apparently the buzz is off a bit and the more likely
date could be mid 2002. Drag!
HardWhere? - One thing is for sure, and that is that
the head Monkie around here has a rather hard head. He won't
say what, but he did say something about hardware as part
of the giveaways. Y'all come back now. Ya hear?!

COURTROOM GAFFES
Recently reported in the Massachusetts Bar Association Lawyers
Journal, the following are questions actually asked of witnesses
by attorneys during trials:
"Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in
his sleep,
he doesn't know about it until the next morning?"
"The youngest son, the twenty-year old, how old is he?"
"Were you present when your picture was taken?"
"Were you alone or by yourself?"
"Was it you or your younger brother who was killed in
the war?"
"Did he kill you?"
"How far apart were the vehicles at the time of the collision?"
"You were there until the time you left, is that true?"
"How many times have you committed suicide?"
THINGS TO DO IN THE ELEVATOR (Part I)
- When there's only one other person in the elevator, tap them
on the shoulder and then pretend it wasn't you.
- Push the buttons and pretend they give you a shock. Smile,
and go back for more.
- Ask if you can push the button for other people, but push
the wrong ones.
- Call the Psychic Hotline from your cell phone and ask if
they know what floor your on.
- Hold the doors open and say your waiting for a friend. After
a while, let the doors close, and say, "Hi Greg. How's your
day been?"
- Drop a pen and wait until someone goes to pick it up, then
scream, "That's mine!"
- Bring a camera and take pictures of everyone in the elevator.
- Move your desk into the elevator and whenever anyone gets
on, ask if they have an appointment.
- Lay down the twister mat and ask people if they would like
to play.
- Leave a box in the corner, and when someone gets on, ask
them if they can hear ticking.
- Pretend you are a flight attendant and review emergency procedures
and exits with the passengers.
- Ask, "Did you feel that?"
THERE'S A DUMB ONE BORN EVERY MINUTE
Q: So the date of conception (of the baby) was August 8th?
A: Yes.
Q: And what were you doing at that time?
Hmmmm...
Q: She had three children, right?
A: Yes.
Q: How many were boys?
A: None.
Q: Were there any girls?
PAINFULLY NUMB
Did you hear about the Buddhist who refused Novocain during
a root canal?
He wanted to transcend dental medication.

Odds and Ends
THE SOLDIER
It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom
of the press,
It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of
speech,
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given
us the freedom to demonstrate
It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, and whose coffin is
draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.

I must admit...it's a really nice
feeling when you have lots of friends comin' over to your house
just to hang out and stay awhile. It's quite the trip when you
have THOUSANDS of visitors stopping by on a regular basis! Well,
that's what's been goin' down at Ye ole Monkie Place! there have
been people from all over he world mosey into MacMonkies
and grab a smile or two. There's even a monkey or two that I've
been able to get to know quite well since we opened this barrel
of Monkies. And then there are those who...well, I won't go there
for the old timer's sake! LOL
But really, this little mushroom of acquaintances has really
been a rather nice surprise.
OK OK!! I'll get on with it. All I am saying, is give peace a
chance!! Sorry, I just couldn't resist.But seriously,
THANKYOU!
And part of our way of saying thanks, is to "share the abundance
of the Banana crop" as BeanHead would put it. So, for the
next few weeks, we will do a few giveaways to the MacMonkies
house guests. All you have to to is sign the "guest book"
(the entry form) and kick back!. You all are welcome to do so.
The more the merrier!
See ya later!
