Monkie Mess! - WOW! What a week! What do you
get when the cat climbs in the blender and the monkey sticks
his tongue in the light socket? Well, we still have n't
quite figured it out, but it sure makes quite the mess!
As we mentioned in our recent update, we certainly fried a few
fuses and did a good job of chasing
off the maid! But those things tend to happen when one has too
many pots on the burner. So, things may seem a bit scattered
while we put some things back in order, but we will continue
to do business as usual. If you find an item or two out of place,
feel free to drop us a line and let us know. And even if it's
something that just needs attention, don't hesitate to holler!
In the mean time, please bear with us as we put the place back
in order. And now on with the News!
- New in the Gallery! This week we have 3 new additions
to the Monkie Gallery!
First up is another first-rate 3-D rendering from Kara Kelly
entitled Flower
Power. More power to ya Kara!
Next up from the Monkie Man is Infinity
- new to the Desktop
Area - and Swirl
adds to the 3-D
Department.
- Monkie Madness! - Our Monkie Madness Giveaway was
certainly a hit! We would like to thank all of you who participated.
The giveaway went so well that we are planning another round
real soon!
- What's That You Say?? - Our Coconutz Editor wants
to hear from YOU! He's giving the MacMonkies guests their
chance to sound off! Is there a site you think we should feature
as the "Featured Link?" Do you have a site you
want people to know about? Drop us a line
and let us know (before the head Monkie gets even nuttier)!
AOL at the Airport - Apple has a new Airport Base Station
out that is compatible with AOL. It is an 802.11b wireless network
and it also features "built-in firewall and 128-bit encryption
for added wireless security, and support for up to 50 users sharing
one base station" according to Apple's vice president of
Worldwide Product Marketing, Philip Schiller. The new system
costs $99 for the AirPort Card and $299 for the AirPort Base
Station. - from MacCentral
A Word on Charity - Andy Moraitis of Ethereal
Creations updates his column The View From Here with
another Inspirational Reflection entitled "The
Act of Charity."
Good Vibrations? - PC users can now buy a vibrating
mouse and plug it in via USB. The iFeel Mouse software takes
up about 8 megabytes of space upon installation, requires Windows
98 or higher to run, and costs $39.95. Logitech says, "This
3-button, easy-to-use scroll mouse lets you feel your way across
your desktop... you'll feel a variety of vibrations." But
Larry Blasko, Associated Press Writer for Excite wasn't so impressed.
His comment was: "If you need a mouse, get a mouse!"
Umm...NEVER MIND - from Excite
A Brighter Outlook - A few weeks ago, MacMonkies reported
that Microsoft's upgrade to their Hotmail servers would prevent
users of certain browsers to gain access to Hotmail. We have
since learned that The Macintosh Business Unit has released an
update allowing Mac users to access their Hotmail accounts via
Microsoft's Outlook Express. Users of Entourage 2001 and Entourage
for Mac OS X are still not able to access their Hotmail accounts,
but there should be a fix in the near future. -

Grave Circumstances- A Greek Millionaire thought he
had found the ultimate way to get back at his family. He willed
$5.28 million to his hometown for the purpose of building a hospital,
but he also left behind letters telling of his relatives' sexual
affairs that were to be read in the village square before the
building of the hospital began. Villagers would not comply with
the millionaire's request, however, and lawyers have arranged
for that clause to be deleted from the will. The villagers will
get all the money to build the hospital. -

What Comes Down, Must Go Back Up - DRAM prices appear
to be increasing. "It looks as though prices are on the
increase," said David Flack, director of Memory Plus. A
128Mb chip has increased from $1.20 to $1.70. This may not seem
like much, but in percentage terms it's a big leap," Flack
said. According to this report, no one knows for sure why prices
on memory seem to be rising or if the trend will last. However,
according to Other World Computing, "several companies have
been reducing production or entirely ceasing production of memory
devices." Therefore "we saw the supply and demand pendulum
cross the line to where demand exceeded availably supply." - from The
Register and MacMonkies
Rats!! - Many have collected pop cans and traded them
in for a small amount of pennies. In a city called Nova Iguacu,
Brazil, you can get "$2 for every 2.2 pounds of dead rats"
you find! Rats outnumber the people 10 to 1, so the city has
coordinated an effort to get rid of as many rats as they can
before diseases start spreading. The city will collect the rats
so the citizens don't have to touch them. All they need do is
find them. City officials are hoping this will cut down on the
rat population. However, some fear that people will start breeding
their own rats just to make a few extra bucks. -

Shop 'Til He Drops - For all of you guys who hate following
your girl around while she shops, a Scottish retail center offers
you and your significant "The Shopping Boyfriend."
The Lucozade Energy company offers guys the chance to hang out
in a guy environment filled with guy things while his girl gets
"an enthusiastic, attentive, admiring and complimentary"
shopping partner. This shopping companion will even tell a girl
her rear-end looks small! All in all, it is a win-win situation
for both boyfriend and girlfriend. - Now wait

Have you Heard?
G5 Still At It - Word
is still buzzin about the future of Apple's new up-and-coming
G5 processor. It is being said that the G5 has successfully been
tested 2 Ghz, 2.2 Ghz, 2.4 Ghz, 2.6 Ghz, and 2.8Ghz. Mass production
of the chips could start as early as December. Holy
smokes! At that speed you would really have to run to catch up
with it!
iMac - Also in the rumbling is word of a new LCD iMac
that would make its debut at Macworld San Francisco. The model
is said to be running at up to 1Ghz

A TWIST OF THE TWOUNGE
ON THE SEA SOAR
Mr. See and Mr. Soar were old friends. See owned a saw and
Soar owned a seesaw. Now See's saw sawed Soar's seesaw before
Soar saw See, which made Soar sore. Had Soar seen See's saw before
See saw Soar's seesaw, then See's saw would not have sawed Soar's
seesaw. But See saw Soar and Soar's seesaw before Soar saw See's
saw, so See's saw sawed Soar's seesaw. It was a shame to let
See see Soar so sore just because See's saw sawed Soar's seesaw.

or to tutor two tooters to toot?

A DOG'S DICTIONARY
BICYCLES: Two-wheeled exercise machines, invented for
dogs to control body fat. To get maximum aerobic benefit, you
must hide behind a bush and dash out, bark loudly and run alongside
for a few yards; the person then swerves and falls into the bushes,
and you prance away.
BUMP: The best way to get your human's attention when
they are drinking a fresh cup of coffee or tea.
DEAFNESS: This is a malady which affects dogs when
their person want them in and they want to stay out. Symptoms
include staring blankly at the person, then running in the opposite
direction, or lying down.
DOG BED: any soft, clean surface, such as the white
bedspread in the guest room or the newly upholstered couch in
the living room.
DROOL: Is what you do when your persons have food and
you don't. To do this properly you must sit as close as you can
and look sad and let the drool fall to the floor, or better yet,
on their laps.
GARBAGE CAN: A container which your neighbors put out
once a week to test your ingenuity. You must stand on your hind
legs and try to push the lid off with your nose. If you do it
right you are rewarded with margarine wrappers to shred, beef
bones to consume and moldy crusts of bread.
LEAN: Every good dog's response to the command "sit
!", especially if your person is dressed for an evening
out. Incredibly effective before black-tie events.
LEASH: A strap which attaches to your collar, enabling
you to lead your person where you want him/her to go.
LOVE: Is a feeling of intense affection, given freely
and without restriction. The best way you can show your love
is to wag your tail. If you're lucky, a human will love you in
return.
SNIFF: A social custom to use when you greet other
dogs. Place your nose as close as you can to the other dogs rear
end and inhale deeply, repeat several times, or until your person
makes you stop.
SOFAS: Are to dogs like napkins are to people. After
eating it is polite to run up and down the front of the sofa
and wipe your whiskers clean.
THUNDER: This is a signal that the world is coming
to an end. Humans remain amazingly calm during thunderstorms,
so it is necessary to warn them of the danger by trembling uncontrollably,
panting, rolling your eyes wildly, and following at their heels.
WASTEBASKET: This is a dog toy filled with paper, envelopes,
and old candy wrappers. When you get bored, turn over the basket
and strew the papers all over the house until your person comes
home.
