on the Roxio Web site for all versions of Toast from 3.0 to 5.0.1.
The newest version, 5.0.2, "adds support for DVD-R media
speed detection, improved compatibility with Apple's iTunes and
Disc Burner, and improved support for the Apple SuperDrive, the
Pioneer DVR-A03, and the Yamaha 2100E." If you're already
registered at the Roxio site, then just head over to http://www.roxio.com/en/jhtml/support/webcheckup.jhtml
and pick up your updates. If you are not registered, head over

first and be sure to have your CD Key number handy.
Home Away From Home - Andy Moraitis of Ethereal
Creations updates his column The View From Here with
another reflective addition entitled "A
Home Away From Home." Head on over to the White
Fire Ministries site and give it a look.
You Say You Want a Revolution - A new software package
is being developed that will make Apple's revolutionary iPod
work with Windows. MediaFour, a company which boasts that cross-platform
computing is what they do best, says that they are "readying
an inexpensive new software package called XPod, which will make
the iPod work with Windows Me, 98, 95, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP."
The beta version of the Xpod will be available - in a word -
"soon." - from
Macobserver
Tattoo You - Twenty
design students in Hong Kong were given the opportunity to use
their creativity to re-design the Barbie Doll. One designer,
Wingo Wong, strutted his Barbie in a low-backed evening gown
revealing a tattoo of a large dragon all across her back. Far
from the goody-two-shoes image we all have of Barbie, Wong said
he wanted to reveal another side of Barbie because "there
must be other sides to her." The Tattoo Barbie will not
be marketed as the designing opportunity was simply an experiment
to test local creativity." Now that sounds
like a real Wingo Ding of a good time! - from Excite
Optical Reality - We are all familiar with Apple's
optical mouse. Now scientists are trying to apply the same technology
to speed up computer processors. If light sensors can be manipulated
enough to compute information as well as carry it, the end result
would be a "many-terahertz microprocessor" which would
be capable of performing trillions of operations per second.
Scientists are hoping to re-design computer chips to read digital
0s and 1s photonically (with light) instead of electronically.
If they can, we will be looking at drastically reduced sizes
and increased speed in computer processors. So the question remains:
Can they? "Pretty much everything you can do with electronics,
you can carry over to photonic crystals," says David J.
Norris of the NEC Research Institute. Sounds as if it is only
a matter of time. - from Wired
A Case for the iPod - Two carrying cases for Apple's
new iPod are due "no later then the week after Thanksgiving,"
according to the company JR Hill. The company is coming out with
a basic carrying case and a deluxe carrying case. Both are made
of leather, with the deluxe version resembling a cell phone case,
having a clear plastic window for the iPod display and an open
area for the iPod dial. They are called the iPod Sleeve the iPod
Sleeve deluxe.

Have Your Rug and Eat It Too- A unique rug was sold
recently at an Auction in New York. It is made out of blue cellophane-wrapped
candy. The 325-pound rug, designed by Cuban Felix Gonzalez-Torres,
is a contemporary art piece called "Untitled (Blue Placebo),"
and sold for $666,000. Contributing to the value of the rug is
it's ability for constant metamorphosis, as the owner may change
the appearance of the rug at any time by taking off the candies
and eating them. As the artist himself stated, "I need the
public to complete the work." From the
looks of the price tag, this piece of work was cursed from the
get go! - from Excite
Human UFO's - Two Englishmen, Andy Elson and Colin
Prescot, have set an interesting goal for themselves. They would
like to set the world altitude record in a manned balloon. To
do this they plan to put on spacesuits and sail out into the
Earth's atmosphere in a balloon as tall as the Empire State Building.
The attempt is tentatively planned for sometime this summer.
- from Wired
Singapore Super Bowl - 200 delegates from around the
world will be meeting this week in Singapore to discuss the future
of toilets. The delegates will not only be discussing toilets,
but also be taken on a tour to observe different kinds of toilets
that are being used around Singapore. There will even be a four-day
restroom Asia trade show. The country of China has a special
interest in this topic, as they are looking to provide the best
facilities available for the Olympics. Sounds
like a job for the Tidy Bowl Man! -
from Excite
Nothin' But A Hound Dog - 50 Graceland employees have
been laid off due to the lack of visitors since the September
11 terrorist attack. Most of the people who visit Elvis's home
are foreigners, so the lack of flights has hurt tourism at the
Graceland mansion and has Elvis fans singing the blues. With
visitations down by 15 percent, Graceland has lost "tremendous
amounts of revenue." It appears that
Elvis's fans have now left the building. - from Excite

Have you Heard?
Office Macs - Macusers
are now able to put Microsoft Office v. X on their Macs. The
software package including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Entourage
is selling for $499 ($299 upgrade for those who have Office 98
or 2001). The programs can also be purchased individually for
$399 ($149 upgrade).
Mac OS 9.2.2 - Apple is in the final stages of development
for the OS 9.2.2 update. There are few known problems with the
latest beta version which has been released to developers. There
is not a definite timeline as to the final release, but if things
continue smoothly in the final stage, the public release of the
Mac OS 9.2.2 update could be very soon.

PROVERBS
A first grade teacher collected well known proverbs. She gave
each child in her class the first half of a proverb and asked
them to come up with the remainder of the proverb. It's hard
to believe these were actually done by first graders, but there
are some good ones nonetheless - their insight may surprise you.
Better to be safe than......................punch a 5th grader
Strike while the.........................bug is close
It's always darkest before..................Daylight Savings
Time.
Never underestimate the power of............termites
You can lead a horse to water but...........how?
Don't bite the hand that....................looks dirty
No news is..................................impossible
A miss is as good as a......................Mr.
You can't teach an old dog new..............math
If you lie down with dogs, you'll...........stink in the morning
Love all, trust.............................me
The pen is mightier than the................pigs
An idle mind is.............................the best way to relax
Where there's smoke there's.................pollution
Happy the bride who.........................gets all the presents
A penny saved is............................not much
Two's company, three's......................the Musketeers
Don't put off till tomorrow what............you put on to go
to bed
There are none so blind as........................Stevie Wonder
Children should be seen and not.............spanked or grounded
If at first you don't succeed...............get new batteries
You get out of something only what you...........see in the picture
on the box
When the blind leadeth the blind............get out of the way
And the favorite: Better late than...................... pregnant
Laugh and the whole world laughs with you, cry and......
you have to blow your nose
