Harrison Dies At 58 - George Harrison, former song
writer and lead guitarist of The Beatles, died from cancer. Harrison
struggled with cancer for quite sometime before he passed away.
According to Gavin De Becker "He died with one thought in

The Rest of the Mac Story! - Yesterday MacMonkies
received an e-mail from Dan Knight explaining that MacMonkies
was placed on the Rest of the Mac Web list. The e-mail is as
follows:
"We finished the Best of the Mac Web survey last week
-- now we're ready to take a look at the sites that weren't on
that survey. In some cases, it was simple oversight. In others,
readers suggested sites we were not familiar with. We've put
them all together (39 total) to create the "Rest of the
Mac Web" survey, which goes live on Thursday, November 29.
http://lowendmac.com/botmw/011129.html
Voting will take place through December 7, results will be
analyzed on December 8, and we plan to release our findings on
Tuesday, December 9. The highest scored sites on this survey
will be included on the Spring 2002 "Best of the Mac Web"
survey.
As always, we ask voters to only rate sites they are familiar
with."
We consider this quite the honor. So, if you have enjoyed
your stay at MacMonkies, we would like to encourage everyone
to head over to Low
End Mac and cast your vote for MacMonkies (Note: There
is another site with a similar name. The number for our site
is # 20 on the survey which is on the second page). Your
consideration is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

by Mr. Todd Darland. Todd brings us a something a bit
different from his recent works. This fine peace of work is entitled
"Pinned."
Head over to the Gallery and grab
your copy. While you're there, check out the latest from Purple

designed to recognize excellence in products that work with Mac
computers. Some of the winners include:
- Innovation of the Year - Mac OS X
- Product of the Year - PowerBook G4

Judges were amazed at the number of quality products to choose

Easy Money - Rick Magnuson recently created a painting
titled "I Dare You To Steal This $100." The painting,
which was hanging in the Aspen Art Museum, had a real $100 bill
on it. Magnuson said he wanted to catch someone in the act of
stealing the money. Well, after nearly a month someone has managed
to steal the money off the painting, but Magnuson didn't get
to catch the theft in the act. "It ruined the whole aesthetics
for me," he says. - from Ananova
No Longer Worlds Apart - Last week, MacMonkies
reported that a software package called the XPod was being developed
so that Apple's iPod would work with the Windows Operating System.
We have since learned that a beta version of Xpod is due out
in the next week or two. XPod will be put out by the company
Mediafour. According to their marketing coordinator, Kristin
Tedesco, "There's a world of difference between Mac OS and
Windows, but we are having no trouble making it great, different
though it may be." - From MacUser
Scents of Smell - Brand name Coty has put out a new
and different kind of perfume called 001Coty. The unique
thing about this perfume is that it is made to smell "digital,"
making people think of their computers. The fragrance is for
guys and gals alike, and sells only on the internet. Coty will
sell a limited 5000 bottles of the "digital" scent
and hopes that 001Coty will be a popular item this holiday
season.- from Wired
Ho! Ho! Huh? - New Zealand Santas will have to tone
down their act this Christmas. Apparently, when Santa shouts
his jolly "Ho! Ho! Ho!" to children, some of them get
scared. So Recruitment company Westaff NZ Ltd is asking the Santas
to quiet down the joyful noise, especially when they have children
sitting on their knees. "Ho! Ho! Ho!" shouts are to
be used when they are walking through crowds. The recruitment
company is hoping this will make the Santas seem more approachable
to children. - from Excite
Apple in Store for the Holidays - Apple is opening
several stores just in time for the holidays. On November 23,
Apple opened stores in Santa
Clara, Miami,
San Diego
and Buffalo.
This set a new record for Apple: opening fours stores in one
day. "We...wanted to open our stores to give people as much
holiday shopping time as possible," said Ron Johnson, Apple's
senior vice president for retail. "While we never know how
the season (will do) until it's over, we are very hopeful for
this holiday season. Stores that have great merchandise, the
right concept and great service will perform very well. We will
be one of those."- from MacCentral
It's A Steal - Mickey Hewitt of Louisiana found his
own thing to do while he was waiting for his wife to give birth.
He dropped his wife off at the emergency room of the River Parishes
Hospital near New Orleans, then proceeded to smash a car window
in the parking lot of the hospital and steal the radio. Unfortunately
for Mickey, the hospital's security cameras captured it all on
tape. Police found the 21-year-old in the maternity wing of the
hospital and arrested him for theft. - from

Internet: A God-Send - For the first time ever, Pope
John Paul used a laptop to send a document over the internet on November
22, 2001. Normally the Pope delivers his messages by traveling
and delivering them in person, but his doctors have been urging
him to slow down. The 81-year-old Pope shows signs of Parkinson's
disease, and has a hard time getting around due to a hip surgery
in 1994. Due to these health issues, the Internet may prove to
be a God-send for the Vatican's main man. -

Have you Heard?
Bigger and Better - The
iBook and the PowerBook G4 are likely to have larger screens
by mid-2002. Word has it that the size of the iBook display will
increase to 13.3 or 13.7 inches, and the size of the PowerBook
G4 display will increase to16 inches. It is being said that Apple
is hoping to bring about these size changes at about the same
time-frame as the release the new G4 processor to the consumer
Mac lines. With the prices of flat-panel displays dropping, Apple
may even come out with a flat-panel iMac, which has been anticipated
for some time now.
On the Record - The
Register reports that "Apple's VP of worldwide
marketing, Phil Schiller, has gone has gone on the record to
suggest March as the date when new Macs ship with OS X as default."
New Macs have been shipping with both Mac OS 9.x and Mac OS X
installed. Presently, Mac OS 9.x is set as the default, but Mac
OS X could be used as the default operating system on new Macs
as early as March 2001.

Coming of Age - The arrival Apple's MacOSX has certainly
been one of the biggest computer events in recent years. With
OSX coming of age, new applications for the new OS are certainly
events to look forward to on a weekly and even daily basis. Apple
is certainly aware of this excitement and has created just the
place to go to check out such new arrivals. Some of the software

Gee, where does one begin? I know,
I know - the beginning! But it's not always that easy.
Well, first off, a bit of background
information could be useful.
1st, MacMonkies BOTTOM LINE
is a smile. The whole concept of our humble little site was to
see the fun, positive side of all things crappy. Even if the
response is in sarcasm, better a smile produced by gas than not
at all.
2nd, MacMonkies has an unsaid
rule that the word "I" is not to be used except in
this section. Perhaps there are exceptions, but the emphasis
is on the team spirit, and we all know there is no "I"
in team. Corny as it may sound, that's the LAW in MacMonkie Country!
Now, with that said, I am already
tuckered out! However, imagine this:
