More On The Monkie - Friday will bring another
batch of Desktops and Icons for your downloading pleasures! The
entire Monkie Edition will be a tad shorter than usual due to the turn
of events this last week.
And speaking of
twisty turns, though things took a turn for the worse the last
few days, bad times tend to inspire good things (if they don't
kill ya first)! So, there will be some changes in the weeks to
come. With a bit of good fortune and a lot of work, we hope to
have the "changes" complete by the first part of next
year. We won't scare you with a complete appearance overhaul
(though this ugly little site could use some work). But we will
make some feature changes that will hopefully make your visit
to the Monkie Den even more pleasant and convenient. Keep them
Monkie eyes open and them Bananas peeled and we'll be sure to
keep you posted!
EA
Design -
Woo hoo! One-half of the EA
Design dynamic duo managed to put together
some fine 2-D and 3-D pics to make them GUI eyes of yours real
darn happy! Alan Sherwood has added: A Hazy Shade Of Winter,
A Knife Edge, and Entrapment to the 3-D collections.
And in the 2-D Department, a set of three focusing on colour
with Saddening, Maddening, and Calming.
Get a load of these great new pics over yonder at EA
Design!

Back
In The Saddle
- What a week! Just when you think it can't get any worse, it
does! However, the situation that prevented us from updating
the last few days has been resolved. We will be resuming our
regular schedule hopefully in the next day or two. In the mean
time, the Software Updates Section
has been updated with the latest from the last few days. Thank
you so much for your patience!

Monkie Thought:
Communication
- You can always avoid the truth, tell people what they want
to hear, and live in temporary peace. Or, you can speak the truth
straight to the face and risk conflict. But the true gift of
communication is to carry a balance of both and still make a
difference.

NEW!
MacMonkies
34nd Icon Edition!
- This week's
Icon Edition welcomes 2 new artists to the Monkie Bunch -- James
Cukr and Harvey Lubin! You're gonna love the work from these
gentlemen as well as from Alex and Wati. What are we waiting
for? Let's dig in!
James
Cukr -Quite
the accomplished artist and one of 3 new contributors, James
Cukr weighs in this week's Icon Edition with C7
Metal & Glass I! This fine set of 27 icons only touches
the surface of excellence you will find at The
Art of James Cukr. Awesome stuff!
Agrapha Icons - From Agrapha
Icons' Harvey Lubin, we have a really cool icon set called
General 3. Don't
let the modest title fool ya. Harvey sports the elegance of simplicity
with this amazing set, much like his ultra cool website!
WatiWorks - Back with some power packing
pizzazz, Wati Larke really shows his abilities with his latest
set of icons: Apple Rendezvous.
From the collections of WatiWorks,
this cool set takes the finest collection of computers and adds
even more the touch of class!
Alex Rabino - And saving the funnest
for last (yes, we are slightly biased on this one), we are pleased
as punch to present MacMonkies!
from Alex Rabino! Quoting
the artist himself, "This MacMonkies! Icon Set is to be
used for saving all the good stuff you download from http://www.macmonkies.com
and to keep the url on your desktop." All bias aside, this
really is a great set from Alex. Enjoy!

NEW! 9 New Desktops
In The Gallery -
We are privileged to welcome another fine artist to our Gallery
of great desktop creators -- Peter Lenler! In addition to Peter's
great eye for desktop eye candy, our usual bunch return with
pixels to please the eye! Time to enjoy!
ETC... - Deep in thought is the
absolutely adorable desktop photo called Puff
Head from Colin
Kerr. This great pic will add a great big smile to your desktop,
and maybe even a few warm fuzzies!
Desktop Department!
- From the
talented Peter J. Sucy,
we have another stronger-than-steel desktop that is too tough
to beat. UnixJagXTinted
is a solid piece of work combining the simplicity of a Mac and
the strength of UNIX!
Keeping
the fire burning is the second installment from Alan Sherwood's
Firestorm series with Firestorm
II. This is one of the many fine works you can find by
Alan at EA
Design. Brilliant piece!
And along comes
Ed Allen, the master of madness at EA
Design, ready to put out the fire with Blue
Wave 2. Also the second in a series, this wonderful work
from Ed adds even more magic to your Aqua X-perience.
From "Mean
Mr. Mustard" webmaster Monkie Bradford Wiles comes a tasty
treat with Sherbet Sky.
This bright little number, the original to Orange Twist, is for
all those "smoothies" out there that don't delight
in the textured twist. The Monkie mouth now closes! =)
3-D
Delectables -
Ahhh! Refreshness is the bestest with The
Odd One, a great piece of work from Prevision.
Prevision's Peter Lenler certainly knows the meaning of 3-D brilliance
and originality with this wonderful piece!
MacMonkies own Ron Westby continues
to excel in his artistic abilities with another Bryce rendered
work titled The Lost Voyage.
Though Ron is usually busy being Bananas,
there is certainly a serious side underneath that coconut skull
worthy of your attention.
Flying into its
finale is the fourth and final in the far out UFOpsi series with
UFOpsi 4 by Michele Bugliaro.
Michele is not only the artist/webmaster of Mikawares,
but also does double duty with the out-of-this-world site called
UFOPSI.
Ever
made something and had no idea what it was or why you made it?
Bradford Wiles of the MacMonkies claim to dumbdon asks himself
that question with the 3-D selection Don't
Ask Me. Hey man. Don't look at me. Just look at the title!
MANY THANKS
To:
Alan,
Alex, Colin, Ed, Harvey
James, Michele, Peter L.,
Peter S., Ron, and Wati -
Magnificent

XServe At Your
Xervice -
IT managers are using XServe more due to the compatibility of
Mac OS X 10.2. The new Mac Operating System is a familiar choice
for IT managers because "OS X supports many of the same
applications and command-line tools that IT managers use to configure,
install and manage Windows, Linux and Unix machines." "Now
that we have the quasi-Unix look and feel with Mac OS X, we have
several options for managing Macs," says David Bratt, technology
architect for H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida.
As a result, many workstations across the country are adopting
Macs. -

Owning Up To Online Banking - A study posted by Pew last
week shows that the number of Americans who bank online has increased
164 percent in the last two years. Two years ago, 14 million
Americans said they banked online and this year the number was
37 million. Reasons given for banking online include convenience
and saving time. Most Americans banking online are male, younger
aged and have graduated college. Other popular online activities
are making travel plans and shopping. - from Yahoo
To Settle...Or Not - The state of Massachusetts decided
last Friday to appeal the judge's decision in the antitrust case
against Microsoft. In the agreement Microsoft agreed to refrain
from exclusive deals and share technical information, and to
let users remove desktop icons. The state of West Virginia would
also like to appeal the decision, but they may not have enough
money. The other seven states accepted the decision and will
"focus on making sure Microsoft obeys the settlement."

Santa Claus Is Coming To Theme Park - Many people dressed
as Santa Claus gathered together at a German theme park to try
to break a world record. The Santas were even captured riding
roller coasters on film. The current record for the number of
Santas gathered in one place is 465 Santas who gathered in Switzerland
two years ago. The 1,200 participants in Germany hope that they
will be entered into the Guinness Book of World Records. - from Ananova
Do Or Dye - Mike Halverson, an elementary school principal
in Idaho, promised his students that if they collected 300 cans of
food to give to the needy for Thanksgiving he would dye his hair
blue. The students collected more than 400 cans of food and Halverson
followed through with his promise. He sat in front of the whole
school while the School Attendance Officer doused his hair with
blue dye, continually asking the students, "Is it blue enough?" Don't it make
my brown hair blue? - from Yahoo

A MICROSOFT RAN
CHRISTMAS
Each time you bought
an ornament, you would have to buy a tree as well. You wouldn't
have to take the tree, but you still have to pay for it anyway.
Ornament/XP would weigh 1500 pounds (requiring a reinforced steel
countertop tree), draw enough electricity to power a small city,
take up 95% of the space in your living room, would claim to
be the first ornament that uses the colors red/green together.
It would interrogate your other decorations to find out who made
them. Most everyone would hate Microsoft ornaments, but nonetheless
would buy them since most of the other tree types wouldn't work
with their hooks.

A CLEAN PLACE
TO EAT
Two roaches were
munching on garbage in an alley when one engages a discussion
about a new restaurant.
"I was in that
new restaurant across the street," said one. "It's
so clean! The kitchen is spotless, and the floors are gleaming
white. There is no dirt anywhere--it's so sanitary that the whole
place shines."
"Please,"
said the other roach frowning. "Not while I'm eating!"
ALL DIALED UP
He was an inventor
of note. He created a big shoe with a phone in the heel. Now,
he thought, he could use a phone whenever he wanted. He made
several more so that he could have several shoes with phones
in the house. One day, an emergency came up and he needed a phone
bad. Would you believe it, he couldn't find a single phone boot!

IF THE TAIL FITS
A car was involved
in an accident in a street. As expected a large crowd gathered.
A newspaper reporter, anxious to get his story could not get
near the car. Being a clever sort, he started shouting loudly,
"Let me through! Let me through! I am the son of the victim."
The crowd made way for him. Lying in front of the car was a donkey.

MEANWHILE, BACK
AT THE RANCH
A young cook decided
that the French would enjoy feasting on rabbits and decided to
raise rabbits in Paris and sell them to the finer restaurants
in the city. He searched all over Paris seeking a suitable place
to raise his rabbits. None could be found. Finally, an old priest
at the cathedral said he could have a small area behind the rectory
for his rabbits. He successfully raised a number of them, and
when he went about Paris selling them, a restaurant owner asked
him where he got such fresh rabbits. The young man replied, "I
raise them myself, near the cathedral. In fact, I have a hutch
back of Notre Dame."
