September 3, 2001

Happy Labor Day! - MacMonkies would like to wish all of you a Happy Holiday! Have a great day!

August 29-September 4, 2001

Apple at Bay - Just a short distance from the shore, Apple will open their next store in Peabody, MA. The Peabody store will be the 6th Apple store introduced and is scheduled to open at the North Shore Mall on September 1, 2001. Apple's retail stores have been ushered in with success and a very warm welcome. MacCentral offers a glimpse of the most recent opening at Schaumburg, IL.

MonkieNews! - You got it. We just can't get enough of the stuff. We done been monkeyin' around. So, we have three new works in the Gallery for you this week - Dolph, Flare, and Into the Light. Take a moment and take a peek!

Also, just a reminder - the MacMonkies GUI department will be opening September 12, 2001. If we fail to make that deadline, the first to bring it to our attention via e-mail will receive FIFTY-BUCKS! And them ain't no horse shoes (no horsin' around). CLICK HERE and read the MonkieBarrel for the details.

On or around the same date, MacMonkies will have a very special announcement for all of our visitors. So be sure to be sure to come back and see what all the monkey business is about!

Finally,
Blue Sky Heart has been added to our links page. Have some FUN!

Eye Candy - Did you get a chance to grab your free copy of the Eye Candy 3.1 filters for Photoshop that we mentioned in our first edition? If so, then you know about the very special offer they are offering for the upgrade to Eye Candy 4000 filters. If not...well, just head over and take a look! CLICK HERE

Hard Day's Night - Well, that is The Hard Day's Night Hotel. A new 120-room Beatles theme hotel will be opening up in Liverpool England in 2003. Over 3 million dollars has been set aside for the construction of the hotel based around the Fab Four. Prices are expected to be around $85 for a double room. -from Excite News

MegaHurtz! - The PC world has finally done it. This week, Windows based computers hit the big 2 GHz mark. PC manufacturers introduced models including the new Pentium 4 chip at prices starting as low as $1499. This will definitely have an effect on companies with systems that are just as fast, but have the slower MHz speeds. It seems one may hear of the "Megahertz Myth" a bit more frequent.

Have you Heard?

New Power Book? - Prices are dropping drastically - up to $500 - on Apple PowerBooks. What does this mean? Traditionally speaking, it has been the sign of things to come - "out with the old, in with the new." Apple is "flushing" out its old stock to make room for something new. What could it be? And the drum role please...

Internet Explorer 5.1 - The latest buzz tells us that Microsoft's Internet Explorer 5.1.2 for OSX is ready for the burners. We've learned it will be included on Mac OSX 10.1 available in September.

The Hard Facts? - Apple recently announced that there would be no new hardware introduced at the upcoming Mac Expo in Paris. Though not likely to happen at Seybold, some are questioning whether Apple may just be toying with the press and actually see an announcement occur at that time. Others see that Apple is bringing upon themselves too much by making a "big" announcement before each expo, therefore this "no show" of new hardware being an opportunity to back off a bit and reorganize its strategies. Hmmm....

COOL TOOLS - What really got this Monkie into MacPower was the ability to customize. It's VERY addictive. At the same time, it's not for everyone. But there are simpler routes with little to no risk involved. Here's a couple simple tools to customize your Mac:

  • Kineticon - Animate your desktop with animated icons from Kinetic Creations
  • Bartender - Hide your Menu Bar with a variety of options with the Control Panel from AKUA interactive media Co.
  • Icon Tools - Customize your icons on the fly with this awesome tool from Riccisoft.
  • Custom Menus - Got system 7 thru 8.1? This is a great tool with which to customize. Add tear-off menus and even change your font, font color, and even menu color! Also available from Marc Moini are utilities for other systems such as Startup Doubler, Smart Scroll, and Clean-Install Assistant. Check 'em Out!

Just Plain Nutz!

THAT STINKS!

If a person 'passes wind' consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb. - from Bizzarro

WOO HOO!!

The first modern brassiere, made from two silk handkerchiefs and some pink ribbon, was patented in 1913 by the New York socialite Mary Phelps Jacob? - from Quizland

HI TECH GERMAN

Q: How do you say brassiere in German?

A: Holdzumundkiepsumfrumfloppin!

AND OF COURSE...

Q: How do you say brassiere in hillbilly?

A: Double barrel sling shot! - Look out Dolly!

GREAT TRUTHS (That parents have learned):

  • Raising teenagers is like nailing Jello to a tree.
  • Wrinkles don't hurt.
  • Families are like fudge ... mostly sweet, with a few nuts.
  • Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
  • Laughing helps. It's like jogging on the inside.
  • Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy.

 Monkey Feet

Sometimes, it's best to keep one's feet firmly planted in the mouth, so as not to have any regrets.
So, this is where I will rest (the jaw).
The Monkie Sleeps.
