OH MY GOSH! - Say What? Dell? The first with wireless
notebook technology? Dell CEO Michael Dell said, "right
now our notebook team is continuing to drive very, very hard
on size, weight, wireless integration -- we were the first to
integrate wireless into notebooks, with integrated antennas."
Hmmm! This seems a little less than accurate considering Apple
has been using Airport wireless technologies since 1999! Read
more in this article from MacCentral.
Seems to me, someone could use to have their
central processing unit examined.
MonkieNews - Details, details, details! Sometimes the Monkie
actually has to think! And this week was certainly one
of those times. Nevertheless, there are a few (of those pesky
little details) to report this week. Here's a quick run-down
of the low-down of the happening's goin' down:
- There are three new pics for the pickin' - Alien
Rainbow, Down & Out, and
Recoil. Click on their respective links
or head over to the Gallery to get your grab.
- MacMonkies' GUI Department will officially open next
week - Wednesday, September 12.
- Of course, we don't take it for "Grant-ed,"
but should we fail to keep our commitment to a timely opening
of the GUI Dept, a crispy "Fifty" will go out to the
first to the first person to e-mail
MacMonkies and inform us of our blunder (beginning at
12:01 am MST on September 13, 2001).
Megahertz Myth Revisited - AMD is the latest to jump
on the Megahertz Myth
bandwagon that Apple set
into motion. They will be introducing a new chip that will emphasize
the performance of the chip rather than the megahertz speed alone.
This strategy is being used because their up-and-coming 1.5 GHz
chip does not appear to be as fast as Pentium's 2 GHz
that is currently available. Some of AMD's chips can actually
out perform Pentium's in certain tasks. According to Apple, the
G4 867 MHz was 80% faster than the 1.7 GHz Pentium 4 running
the same task. -from CNET
Cyber Cop - "Cyber crimes such as computer hacking,
data damage and Internet fraud" will now be handled exclusively
by India's Cyber Crime Police Station. The station was set up
to handle cyber crimes to alleviate the load on local police.
Local stations will, however, will still handle the registrations
of cyberspace crimes and carry out searches. There's
a little green man in my head...ummm, computer! - from Excite
News
Apple Carts - Apple's "cart" of new Apple
branded stores is quickly filling up. Their latest store, at
the Northshore Mall in Peabody MA, was the 6th to open last Saturday
(pictures of the store can be viewed at Bumpyhead.com).
With another successful opening under their belt, another is
just around the corner. This Friday, September 7, the Easton
Town Center in Columbus Ohio will offer up a new helping
of Apple retail. Keep them apples rollin'!
Just Bananas! - A Kenyan woman of 93 years was sentenced
to 4 months in jail for cutting down her son's banana plants!
She received the sentence after failing to pay a $60 fine for
"slashing 12 banana stems belonging to her son and daughter-in-law."
Is this woman trying to be on the cutting
edge or what? ...Or WHAT!! - from Excite

Have you Heard?
Got the Need for Speed? - According to his website,
Marc Moini's Startup
Doubler for Mac OS 9.2.1 will be available early this month.
Startup
Doubler can shorten the startup time on your computer by
up to 20%. The current version works on systems from 7.0 to 9.1.
OS X 10.1 - There has been little said about when this
month the latest version of OSX will be available and ready to
ship. However, most sources agree that the final Golden Master
will be wrapped up in a matter of days. It would not be unreasonable
to expect the final product ready to ship toward the end of the
month.
XMorph - Michael Rabe of the Doghouse
Online has posted a note on his site that while Colin Cornaby
is moving to a new server, you can find XMorph
v2.1 Preview at the Doghouse.

We know how important a smile is to our health, so we'll make
this week's Ape selection very simple: How about a place to find
a new smile 24 hours a day? If fun is what you're searchin' for,
then HardyHarHar.com
is the place you want to be. What makes HardyHarHar.com
unique? This is what they have to say:
"Well, first of all, we were one of the very first database-driven
humor sites on the web.
Now, we feel that we are one of the very few humor sites that
has a "clean" database of jokes. Our jokes are edited
by hand, by an actual human with an actual sense of humor. We
edit each joke for clarity and hilarity, grammar, and spelling."
Plus, you can do a search for jokes or just select their new
jokes at random.

On a Serious Note

"Eureka, I've found it!" but rather by the comment"

A Special Thanks! |
I can't begin to express my thanks
to all of you who have made MacMonkies the place that
it is today. As of yesterday, MacMonkies turned a whole
whoppin' TWO MONTHS OLD! We have had visitors from all over the
world and our smile, as well as "guest book," continues
to grow.
Originally, the MacMonkies concept was to spread an ear-to-ear
grin from person to person. Well, that it still is. I
found a lot of enjoyment in participating in the GUI community.
There are a lot of fantastic, real live humans out there behind
those desktops. It is those people who made a huge impact on
this Monkie.
Anyway, before I get carried away with too much wind, I just
want to say THANKS to all who have helped in the building phase,
but especially to all who stop by for a bite before heading out
to the Big Surf!
TAKE CARE!
