Apple Discusses Download Files - Dynamic
duos Apple and Microsoft are having discussions as to cross-coding
their music downloads. The parties involved want a single
standard to set their sights to, rather than splitting
everything up between two platforms. And since the iPod
uses different files than Windows, a big barrier is brought
about when it comes to digital downloads and the applications
that will play them. It is hoped that if cross coding occurs
those barriers can be broken down. - from The Register

At The Top -
Hoooweeeee doggies! Seems like the entire world of GUI
just got an extra
zap of energization in the last day or two! All kinds of
GUI goodness is going down - from
the pixel pizzazz at the 8th
Annual Pixelpalooza, the ShapeShifter
Theme Contest, to great GUI work popping
up everywhere -- the entire community seems ready to beat
Spring to the
punch line with pallet full of zing! So let's do our best
to get the fun covered while we have a little fun of our
own with your Wednesday
Desktop Edition.
Shall we?!!!
New GOO!
New Desktops -
Keep an eye on your eyes! 'Cuz they're likely to bug out
once they get a good look at the 5 New Desktop selections
for this week's Desktop Edition. Fasten your seat belts
and put your safety GOO goggles in place as we prepare
for a fun filled pixel trip! Ready...?
Desktops -
If you're looking for great conversation, singing, and
dancing from a special class of professionally trained
Japanese
women, then Geisha
Gold by Wati Larke will be just the piece
of entertainment for your desktop. From the gorgeous galleries
of WatiWorks, this
fantastic number also goes great with Wati's Butterfly
Beauties and Give Me Sushi!
Nature -
Whoa! Nature is certainly blooming as we usher in a Springtime theme
with an outstanding selection by Beverly
Martin titled Whatcom
Falls. A
couple of miles upstream from the scene of the huge gas
pipeline
explosion
a few years ago, Beverly snaps this fabulous photo from
the falls at Whatcom Creek near Bellingham, WA. Simply
amazing!
Another
fine time in nature's design comes all the way from Australia
with Merimbula
NSW by
everyone's favorite Aussie, Michael Heath!
This beautiful shot was taken by Michael's eye for amazement
just before sunrise at Merimbula bay in NSW, Australia.
Michael finds this a favorite because of its peacefulness.
We certainly agree!
The
sky's the limit with a view to the top with Skies
3 by the ever talented Jack
Juliussen. There's no black
clouds of "bad luck" hangin' around this
crowd. Just a serene scene from the home of Jack's
ever cool collections at RAMASJANG.
With a number like this in your desktop collections,
you'll feel the calm after the storm without a single
drop of rain!
Logos -
Diggin' through the Logo archives of Monkie history, MacMonkies' Bradford
Wiles found ResExcellence,
a most excellent "pre-work" of an earlier number titled ResEx.
This piece was a rather fun one to rework, as Bryce letter
placement for Logo design is rather a bugger to work
with. And with most of the work already in place, it
turned out to be a spiffy little design as well of a
tribute if you will to pass to those great GUI
hack masters
at none other than ResExcellence.com.
Enjoy!
Thanks

WORST THINGS TO SAY ON A FIRST

MEN AND WOMEN DRIVERS
A man and a woman
are driving down the same road at the same time. As
they pass each other the woman leans out the window,
points and yells, "PIG!"
The man immediately
leans out his window, shakes his fist and shouts back, "WITCH!"
They
each continue on their way, and as the man rounds
the next corner, he slams into a pig that had wandered
into the middle of the road.
If only men would listen.

What was the female geometry
student looking for at the beach?

Too Many Apples
In One Basket? - Since Disney
and Pixar have dropped the merger ball, the question arises
as to whether Apple will buy Pixar. Some suggest that it
would be a smooth move since Steve Jobs runs both companies,
but for that same reason it could also seem self-serving.
Apple could amuse us all with ads of Nemo or the turtle
(DUDE!) promoting it's products, but it's strength is in
marketing. So Apple will probably not be taking over Pixar.

A Jiffy! - A "jiffy" is
an actual unit of time. It is 1/100 of a second. No
wonder I was so impatient when me mum said "in a jiffy!"
Split Decision -
The two hemispheres of a dolphin's brain work independently.
For 8 hours, the entire brain is awake. The left side
then sleeps for 8 hours. When it wakes up, the right
side sleeps
for 8 hours. Thus, the dolphin gets 8 hours of sleep
without ever having to stop physically.

STAYIN' ALIVE
A cowboy told his grandson
the secret to a long life. He said, "You gotta sprinkle a little
gunpowder on your oatmeal, see. If you do, you'll live
to a nice ripe old age." So the cowboy did this religiously
every day, and sure enough, lived to the nice ripe old
age of 96.
When he died he left behind 4 children, 8
grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren ...and a 16 foot
hole in the wall of the crematorium.
WITTY TRUCK
DRIVER
A truck driver
was driving along on the freeway. A sign comes up
that reads "low bridge ahead." He tries to
turn off but, before he knows it, the bridge is right
there and he gets stuck under it. Cars are backed up
for miles. Finally, a police car comes up. The cop gets
out of his car and walks around to the truck driver,
puts his hands on his hips and says, "Got stuck
huh?"
The truck driver says, "No,
I was delivering this bridge and ran out of gas."
BLONDE...INFANT
SCALE
At a pharmacy, a blonde asked to use the
infant scale to weigh the baby she held in her arms. The
clerk explained that the device was out for repairs, but
said that she would figure the infant's weight by weighing
the woman and baby together on the adult scale, then weighing
the mother alone and subtracting the second amount from
the first.
"That won't work," countered the
woman. "I'm not the mother, I'm the aunt."
