Where's My Remote?! - Well, by George, it's at Apple.
They have a new program called "Apple Remote Desktop,"
which will allow users to run a number of other Macs by remote
control. Among other things, administrators can view screens,
assist with problems and distribute software all from one central
location, on wired or wireless systems. The software comes in
two versions, 10-client and unlimited-client. The10-client version
will run 10 computers at a time and costs $299. The unlimited-client
version will run up to 5,000 computers at a time and costs $499.
The software runs on OS X v10.1 or later, but is able to control
Macs with Mac OS 8.1 through Mac OS 9.2, or Mac OS X v10.1 or
later. - from Apple
As the Windows Turn - Court proceedings for the on-going
Microsoft Antitrust Case began again on Monday. The states pleaded
with Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly to be more strict with Microsoft
by forcing them to make their software easier for users to customize.
Microsoft continued to argue that their software would not work
if it were more customizable, adding that such enforcement would
cause Microsoft to pull Windows off the market. The hearing is
expected to last two months, with Bill Gates himself being called
as a witness during the proceedings. Wah -
from Yahoo
Use Your Illusion - We found this
very strange picture out there in cyber-land. There is
something very wrong with what you see. But what is it?
The thumbnail pic is simply too small to focus in on the strange
illusion. So, click on the pic
or CLICK HERE
to view the picture in larger form. Then simply focus your eyes
on the photo for about 60 seconds without looking away. Your
eyes are sure to see the bizarre behavior of this view. You may
want to be sure your speakers are turned on and up a bit. Sometimes
the hiss of the "silence" helps you concentrate better.
Good luck!
New View - Many people in the UK called in sick to work
last Thursday, but it was not with a cold or cough or sniffle.
Rather, they stayed at home to play with their new Microsoft
XBoxes. According to a survey of 3000 people who pre-ordered
the XBox, three-quarters of them intended to play hooky on the
day their XBox arrived. This "XBox Syndrome" was only
expected to last one day, with no ill side effects other than
aching muscles in the wrists and hands which may have occurred
while gaming. Makes me wanna HURL just thinkin'
about it. - from Cosmiverse
Life In the Fast Lane! -Warren Brodsky of Ben-Gurion University
in Israel recently
completed a study of 28 people concluding that drivers who listen
to fast music have more accidents. The reason for this is that
drivers seem to take more risks when they are listening to fast-paced
music. According to the New Scientist magazine report, "Drivers
had more than twice as many accidents when they were listening
to fast tempos as when they listened to slow or medium-paced
numbers." Brodsky suggests either choosing slower music
or turning the volume down while driving to avoid distractions.
But the slow tunes put us to sleep...surely
make you lose your mind! - from

Exit Next Left - A Mac vendor in Nashville, Tennessee
had a shock when a car ran
off Interstate I-65 at 2am and scraped the side of their building.
"Our sign on the interstate says 'Exit now!', but we never
meant for someone to take that literally," joked the art
and promotions director of MacAuthority, Lucas Leverett. Both
driver and merchandise survived the wreck. Says Leverett, "Her
impact on the building knocked merchandise off shelves, but somehow
those old heavy Mac IIs on display stayed firmly in their place."
Maybe the sign should have said: Brain - Next
Left! -
from MacCentral
Blush It Off - For a mere $5,680 a London clinic is providing
a surgery which will prevent patients from blushing ever again.
Celebrities, bankers and TV Presenters have been visiting the
Highgate Private Hospital for this surgery. Says Anthony Mitra,
surgical director of the clinic, "If you're negotiating
a deal or a contract and you blush, then you give your position
away." During 40-minute operation, the surgeon cuts a small
hole in the armpit and cuts the nerve endings that cause the
patient to blush. The effects are immediate, there is no visible
scar and the only noted side-effect is increased sweating. - from Excite
Cyber Easter Eggs - John Pickston from Timperley, Manchester
has been getting
early presents from the Cyber Easter Bunny. Since January he
has purchased 7,000 chocolate Cadbury's eggs and has been using
the wrappers to bid for prizes on the Internet. Besides winning
trips to France and to go white water rafting and go-carting,
the thirty eight-year-old landed a trip to Hong Kong for 1,322
wrappers, equivalent to about $330. Pickston won 19 prizes altogether,
but is not able to win any more because Cadbury's has now changed
the rules. - from Ananova

MACWORLD Expo/Tokyo '02 - The Macworld
Conference and Expo/Tokyo 2002 begins this Thursday March
21, 2002 and runs through Saturday. Though it is uncertain what
type of new product or update announcements might come out of
the Expo, it is expected that Steve Jobs will "come clean"
as to the reasons behind the delays on the new iMac. Though Jobs
is scrubbing up to present these details to the public, he is
not expected to let all the mice out of the bag. It has
been said that Jobs does and says pretty much as he pleases.
Furthermore, admitting that the delays were Apple's fault would
throw a big huge monkie wrench into this quarter's profits.
Word is circulating that updates may include a revision of
iPhoto and a beefier iPod. Stay tuned for details as events develop.

Did Ya Know? - Those of you who have made the switch
to OSX and spent some quality time with Apple's new work horse
have probably found its new features quite handy and annoying!
However, not all the "annoying features" are really
so. For example: the Column view in the finder windows. If you're
picky like me, you like each column the same size and
for the selected folder window to always open with the same
view.
The solution to the latter "annoyance" is the simplest:
What ever view you have the window in when you close it is how
it will open the next time. So don't change it! On occasion,
you will open another folder with a different finder view and
navigate to a particular folder and the view is different than
you left it. Well, not really. It's only because you started
with a different folder with a different view. Again - don't
change it!
As for the width of the columns, this is an easy one too.
Admittedly so, when you grab the column tab and go to adjust
the width, it moves all the columns in both directions! ARRRGH!
But, there is a quick remedy: simply hold down the option
key while grabbing the column of your choice and - WALAH! It
moves only the column you have hold of.
Clarification - When using
the option-click combination on the column, it moves only the
column selected and those to the right of it without changing
the width of the columns being moved.
Now doesn't that feel better?!

DOG DAY AFTERNOON

It doesn't matter. It won't come anyway.

THE 12-STEP PROGRAM FOR INTERNET ADDICTS
I will have a cup of coffee in the morning and read my newspaper
like I use to.
I will eat breakfast with a knife and fork and not with one
hand typing.
I will get dressed before noon.
I will make an attempt to clean the house, wash the dog, get
the kids off to school, all before even thinking of the Internet.
I will sit down and write a letter to those unfortunate few
friends and family that are Internet-deprived.
I will call someone on the phone who I cannot contact via
the Internet.
I will read a book...if I still remember how.
I will listen to those around me and their needs and stop
telling them to turn the TV down so I can hear what is happening
on the Web.
I will not be tempted during TV commercials to check for email.
I will try and get out of the house at least once a week,
if it is necessary or not.
I will remember that my bank is not forgiving if I forget
to balance my checkbook because I was too busy on my computer.
Last, but not least, I will remember that I must go to bed
some time....and the Internet will always be there tomorrow!

Odds and Ends
ENLIGHTENED PERSPECTIVE
by Andy Rooney
I've learned...
That being kind is more important than being right.
That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength
to help him in some other way.
That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets
to the end, the faster it goes.
That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask
for.
That money doesn't buy class.
That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.
That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.
That the less time I have to work with, the more things I
get done.

Monkie Difference |
I must say...I never understood what
pops meant when he said, "Don't worry about what Johnny
is doing. Just be yourself!"
Well, now I understand. Too many times,
when we as a bunch of monkies are so busy looking over the fence
comparing ourselves with the Jones' that we have no time to do
what we do best!
Yes, we all need a standard to go
by and certainly need our mirrors, but it's best to take a QUICK
glance around and then get back to what WE do best.
When I started this site in July of
2001, I had nothing to compare the site to in order to gauge
its success. I just did it because it was a way to pass my enjoyment
on to others. In the process, I in turn got a kick (mostly in
the butt!).
Know what? After 8.5 months and about
1.5 million hits later, I believe we're both having some fun.
You truly do make a difference. But
the Jones' probably won't even notice!
Smile! It can ALWAYS get better!
See Ya!
BJW
