Happy Mom's
Day!
Driving USA:
McCartney In Denver Colorado - Last week, two of the
MacMonkies team were fortunate to see Paul McCartney perform
live at the Pepsi Center in Denver Colorado. The following is
a quick run down of some of the hilites of the show. Later this
week, we will have some pics from the concert's program. Enjoy!
As we settled into to our high class seats (the nose bleeder
econo-specials), I snagged the binoculars from BeanHead and scoped
the place out. Zooming in on stage left I spotted a Titanium
PowerBook as part of the control center. Perhaps no surprise
here - a Beatle on Apple! - Continued...HERE
A Note To Our Viewers - It was brought to my attention
by one of MacMonkies contributors that there was found
a nice little collage
of MacMonkies desktops displayed at ResExcellence's
Snapshots section. The collage was made up of four Monkie
pics - 2525, One,
Twister, and Dimentia
II. The creator of this collage is William Curry.
William, are you reading this? THANK
YOU!
All of our contributors and readers are who make MacMonkies
the blast that it is. We can't thank all of you enough! Cheers!

for some hilites from Paul McCartney's concert in Denver Colorado.
Hope to see you then!

News On The Net...
Whine, Whine, Whine! - It seems even among the Mac
faithful, not all can agree on the OS of the "Next Generation."
Whilst browsing around MacCentral
the other day, we stumbled across an interesting thread
in their User Forum.
One "stranger" started the topic by informing all OSX
"crybabies" that the Unix based OS is a "quantum
leap forward" and a "superior OS." Perhaps not
the most controversial topic, but the "crybabies" part
was enough to set a few on end! One "member" responded,
"Tell you what. Go to WWDC, and in the first group discussion,
when someone mentions a bug or a performance issue, stand up
and call them a whining crybaby. You go for it." Ewww, ouch!
And the going gets better still. Read
More.
Stuck With You? - The
Register reports an interesting find at Microsoft:
"It is a legal requirement that pre-installed operating
systems remain with a machine for the life of the machine."
YIKES! Does that mean "till death do us part?" It would
certainly seem so, or at least sound so according to Microsoft's
"stuck with you" policy. Sound interesting? How about
this: Though The Register is "too modest" to accept
credit, since they brought the story to the world's attention,
Microsoft has softened up their story! Read more HERE!
Hey Dude! - The lyrics to Paul McCartney's classic song,
"Hey Jude", were recently put up for auction by Christie's
auction house. The lyrics are on a piece of notebook paper and
are handwritten. McCartney put a stop to the auction, however,
his lawyer saying that the paper was possibly taken from McCartney's
house during a burglary or maybe even taken by someone who had
worked with McCartney. The lyrics would have sold for an estimated
$116,000. - from Billboard
Not Interested - Johnny Carson, former host of The Tonight
Show, has finally paid back
a $10 debt of almost fifty years. It was in the 1950s when Carson
borrowed $10 from Bob Sweet in order to pay his cab fare. Sweet
wittingly sent a letter to Carson to remind him of the $10. He
even teased Carson about owing him interest on the loan. In return
Sweet received $10 along with a note from Carson: "Bob,
it was my opinion it was a no-interest loan. Sincerely, Johnny
Carson." Sounds like a bitter Sweet ending
to me. - from Excite
Fond Farewell - Steve Jobs held a funeral for Mac OS 9
at the Worldwide Developer Conference on Monday. Well, sort of.
"We are here today to mourn the passing of Mac OS 9,"
he said. "He is no doubt looking down on us today with that
same smile he showed us every time he booted up." Jobs added
some drama to the eulogy with funeral music and a coffin. He
promised that by this summer the new version of Mac OS X, Jaguar,
would be released. Jobs is also hopeful that there will be five
million Mac OS X users by the end of this year. **Sniff
Sniff**- from
Yahoo
Rat Race - Rats may
soon be able to help us seek and find explosives, bombs and even
those who fall to death due to tragedies. By implanting electrodes
that are only the width of a hair into rats' brains, scientists
can run the rats by remote-control, using a computer to control
them. The rats wear a receiver on their backs and can be controlled
from 500 yards away. When not wearing the receivers, the rats
lead normal rat lives, and the implanted electrodes don't effect
them at all. - from Excite
Have you Heard?
On Par With Windows? - Microsoft is said to be putting
off the development for OS9's Internet Explorer to focus on a
release that is "par" with that of the current version
of IE for Windows. Word has it that the new version could be
out "soon."

the pages of Yahoo Internet Life. The site itself is cool,
but the real blast is here:

You will need Flash

it! Be sure to try the "Duo" button!

JOB APPLICATION
Two young engineers applied for a single position at a computer
company. They both had the same qualifications. In order to determine
which individual to hire, the applicants were asked to take a
test by the department manager.
Upon completion of the test, both men had each missed only
one of the questions. The manager went to the first applicant
and said, ''Thank you for your interest, but we've decided to
give the job to the other applicant.''
"And why would you be doing that? We both got nine questions
correct," asked the rejected applicant.
"We have based our decision not on the correct answers,
but on the question you missed," said the department manager.
"And just how would one incorrect answer be better than
the other?" the rejected applicant inquired.
''Simple,'' said the department manager, ''Your fellow applicant
put down on question #5, 'I don't know.' You put down, 'Neither
do I.''
HORSING AROUND
A guy was reading his paper when his wife walked up behind
him and smacked him on the back of the head with a frying pan.
He asked, "What was that for?"
She said, "I found a piece of paper in your pocket with
'Betty Sue' written on it."
He said, "Jeez, honey, remember last week when I went
to the track? 'Betty Sue' was the name of the horse I went there
to bet on."
She shrugged her shoulders and walked away. Three days later
he's reading his paper when she walked up behind him and smacked
him on the back of the head again with the frying pan.
He asked, "What was that for?"
She answered, "Your horse called."

What Up, Monkie? |
Someone once said something along
the lines that...
It seems that when things are at their
worst, SOMETHING always happens!
That is, something BIG and usually
for the better.
Hmmmm! Is that Monkie hair burning?
