$319 million from employees calling in sick and playing hookie
to attend the film's premiere.

New
In The Gallery - This week's Monkie collection consists
of 5 new pieces in the Desktop Department
and 2 new additions to the 3-D Area. Plus,
we have a new Monkie contributor! Be sure to give a great big
Monkie welcome to Hunter Peddicord! Now let's get to it!
Desktops
- Hunter Peddicord
heads up our Desktop collection with his finely done piece Photoshop One. This
is an old Apple desktop that has been paid tribute with Hunter's
fine attention to creativity and detail. Keep your eye's peeled
on this one!
Neil Roberts returns
to give us Migrain.
No headache here! Just a really great desktop that might catch
you staring too long!
Mr. Todd Darland also
returns with the second in his Hal series - System
Down. Be on the look out for more to come along these
lines!
Finishing up the desktop selections comes this in-your-face
piece from MacMonkies titled Outburst!
Three 3-D - Shining down
from the 3-D Area is another McCartney
inspired title from MacMonkies called C
Moon. Question is: Are you up on your Rock 'n' Roll history?!
Touched up and brushed off is a piece dug out of the
archives titled In The Evening.
This is actually the original piece that Happy
Day - the Kelly-Wiles collaboration - came from.
Well, that's about it...but wait! What do we have strolling
into our e-mailbox? Far out! It's another twisted look from the
mind's eye of EA Design's
Ed Allen! This one is appropriately titled Twist
Till The End II. Don't get dizzy Miss Lizzy!
SPECIAL THANKS
MacMonkies would like to give our gratitude to:
Hunter, Neil,Todd, Paul, Sam, Ed, Matthew, Dan,
and Patrick

Hit List - Red
Herring has listed Apple among their top 100 innovative companies
from around the world. Red Herring looks at each company's "potential
to disrupt an existing market or to create a new one altogether,
its execution of strategy, and the quality of its management."
Then they choose 50 private companies and 50 public companies
to make up their top 100 list. Apple is one of the 50 companies
listed under the public business list. To view the entire list,

Beware Of Cds - Some of
the copyright-protected CDs put out by Sony-owned companies are
damaging the firmware in computers. The new CD put out by Celine
Dion, for example, will not eject when played on an iMac, and
also will not allow the iMac to restart. Other titles that may
cause problems are: Star Wars Episode II, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez
and Destiny's Child. Some of the CDs do contain a warning saying
they 'Will not work on PC/Mac." from
MacUser
Facing Subliminal Messages - An artist named Aphex
Twin has embedded visual images of himself into his music CD
using an application called MetaSynth, which is exclusive to
Mac. The program generates sounds from pictures, which can be
seen using spectrographic software. When the song Windowlicker
EP is played off Twin's CD, an image of his face can be seen
on the computer screen when using spectrographic software. The
Mac-exclusive program MetaSynth, synthesizer software created
by Eric Wenger, was also used for many of the effects seen in
the movie "The Matrix." - from Wired
Barking Up The Right Tree? - Dog owners may not be able
to read their pets' minds,
but they may be able to read their barks soon. Japan is releasing
the Bowlingual device, which converts dog barks into English
words. The device determines the type of bark, then translates
the bark into one of six human emotions: "frustration, alarm,
self-expression, happiness, sadness and desire." Words then
appear on the face of the device, so a person can read what their
dog is saying. The Bowlingual goes on sale in Japan this August."

Virtual Windows - A London department store will be hosting
the latest reality based television show as four people will
live in the store window for the world to see. London's version
of "Big Brother" will record everything the foursome
does and let voters decide what situations the four face by voting
online. The fours will live in a Harrods shop window and be recorded
by webcams. - from BBC
News
The Chipsons - Good-bye Jetsons, good-bye Simpsons - hello
Chipsons! The
Jacobs from Florida officially got computer chipped with the
Verichip last Friday. The chip is the size of a grain of rice
and contains phone numbers and information about medications.
It only took a minute to implant the chips in their arms, and
the information from the chips can be read by a handheld computer.
The family wanted to get chipped because the father, Jeff Jacobs,
has had multiple health problems. They are hoping this will help
them in the future. The family consists of Jeff, Leslie and their
son Derek, age fourteen. - from Excite
Have you Heard?
Cat Got Your 10.2ongue? - Whilst stumbling along throughout
the cyberspace news, we found a very interesting nugget of information
floating about in the asteroid zone. The
Mac Observer was so nice to point out that the much anticipated
up-and-coming Jaguar
- the Apple code name for the future release of OSX - has never
once been referred to as version 10.2. Developers and rumor-mongers
alike have been connecting the two names for quite sometime.
Even more interesting, TMO points out that Apple has
"traditionally charged for .5 releases." And there
is information out there that raises the question as to whether
Jaguar = a "point five" up-and-comer. As TMO
also points out, the name of Apple's future OSX release "could
indeed have relevance to all of us. It will be interesting to
see." Interesting indeed! So the question
is: Would the next-named version of OSX please stand up?
Back To The Future? - Reliable sources have IBM stating
that they will have a 2 GHz G3 PPC chip "in the coming year."
This would certainly add weight to those who have insisted that
the G5 is still a ways off and that the G4 "still has plenty
of life" ahead. Still, many are questioning what will arrive
at the Macworld
Expo in New York this July. Some still question whether or
not the G5 will see the light of day at the MWNY.
But a 2GHz G3? Well, one thing does appear obvious. Apple
traditionally offers huge savings when a new line of Macs are
ready to hit the market. They are currently offering up to $300
rebates on
Power Mac G4's purchased now through July 7. Keep them i's peeled!

Gotta Be Bored! - Some people twiddle their
thumbs. Other people pick their...ears. And then there are Monkies.
What do they do? Well, they are great at pressin' buttons (least
wise that's what my mama tells me). As one Monkie was on a thought-provoking
break, he found a couple interesting keyboard combinations in
OSX 10.1.4 with the latest Apple keyboard. Shall we have a gander?
Control +F2 = The Apple Menu appears
Control +F3 = 1) If using the "Dock Hiding"
option, it will pop up the dock and hilite the finder icon. 2)
If not using the "Dock Hiding" option, it will hilite
the Finder Icon.
Control +F4 = 1) If using the "Dock Hiding"
option while Dock is up, will return Dock to "Hiding"
position. 2) If not using the "Dock Hiding" option,
it will deselect the Finder icon in the Dock.
Control +Eject = Gives you the option to Restart, Sleep,
Cancel, or Shut Down.
Press them buttons and check 'em out!
Please keep in mind...we have tried these
key combinations on different Macs and did not have a 100% success
rate. Even on the main Monkie Mac, the combinations did not activate
these functions all of the time. If you have any info regarding
these irregularities, let us know!
Just Plain Nutz!
CHANGE OF MIND
I have changed my mind a dozen times.
It seems to work better now.

INSANITY CHECK (Part I)
How To Keep A Healthy Level Of Insanity
1. At lunch time, sit in your parked car with sunglasses on
and point a hair dryer at passing cars. See if they slow down.
2. Page yourself over the intercom. Don't disguise your voice.
3. Every time someone asks you to do something, ask if they
want fries with that.
4. Put your garbage can on your desk and label it "in"
5. Put decaf in the coffee maker for 3 weeks. Once everyone
has gotten over their caffeine addictions, switch to espresso.
6. Finish all your sentences with "in accordance with
the prophecy."
7. Dont use any punctuation marks
8. As often as possible, skip rather than walk.
9. Specify that your drive-through order is "to go."

TV IN THE WINDOW
One day a blonde walked into a second hand store and asked
the clerk, "How much is that TV in the window?" The
man said, "I'm sorry. I don't sell stuff to blondes."
The next day she came in as a red head. She asked how much
the TV was in the window again. And again he said he didn't sell
things to blondes.
The following day she came in again and asked for the third
time how much the TV was. The man said, "FOR THE FINAL TIME!
I DONT SELL STUFF TO BLONDES!!"
Puzzled, she said, "How did you know I was a blonde?"
He said, "That's not a TV, It's a microwave!!!"

Odds and Ends
Crayons
We could learn a lot from crayons:
Some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have
weird names. And all are different colors. But...
They all exist very nicely in the same box.
Just A Minute!
How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom

Peace of Monkie Mind |
When was the last time you told someone
all the things about them that you thought were cool?
And when was the last time you pointed
out things about someone you didn't like?
If you're are like many, you probably
find yourself participating in the latter rather than the former.
I was taught, "If you can't say
something nice, don't say anything at all."
Though we as people need to know where
we fall short, we also need to be reminded of what we do well.
Perhaps there is someone you know
that could use a kind word to brighten their day.
Just a thought!
