Odds and Ends

Not Just Anybody - This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anyone could have.

Icons | Community News | Very Ape | Bananas

At The Top - Ahhh...the weekend! And with the weekend on it's way, we have New Icons, Community News, and Bananas for your Winter Blues. Plus, we've added some info to our Submissions Area for all of our Desktop and Icon artists, so everyone can share the wealth of GUI goodies. And would you have guessed it? Very Ape, a Monkie place where we give a nod to cool stuff, has returned! We won't detain you further. Let's get down and do the Monkie!

New GOO!

New Icons - We all know that the Head Monkie couldn't make an Icon if his lunch depended on it (careful now). So we are oh so grateful to our contributors for their fine work, including this week's latest artist Steve Ansell. Welcome Steve! With all that said, me thinks it's time to check 'em out.

Bubble Icons 1 Steve Ansell - Lights, camera...and Bubble Icons 1 from Steve Ansell! You don't need any swelled headed stars around to pop these bubbles. This great set of 16 was designed for Steve's own personal use, but quickly became a favorite among friends, as will be the case with you.

WatiWorks - Racing in with snazz and style is a classy set from WatiWorks called Transportation. Wati Larke sports his fine artistic abilities with cool vehicles from modern day to old time eras. Rev 'em up, Wati!

AGRAPHA Animals 3AGRAPHA Icons - Fun fun fun! From AGRAPHA Icons hops Harvey Lubin with AGRAPHA Animals 3. There's more fun in this collection than you can shake a tad pole at! You'll find 10 credible critters in this set that won't even clutter your desktop (just bark a little).

miX the piX - Winding up this serving of GUI goodies for Icon Friday is yet another well crafted package from the master miXer titled Server Icons. Hein Mevissen from miX the piX always manages to grab your attention with his work, whether you're a techy at heart or just wanna have fun. Enjoy!

Thanks Department --

Steve, Wati, Harvey, and Hein...

Your work makes the entire net SHINE!

Thanks!!

Very Ape!

Safari Menu via BryceSafari Menu - Ever been right in the middle of typing that all-too-important term paper and thought "Oh yeah! That URL I need is bookmarked." You find the app folder, get on line, open your browser, open your favorites and...mmm, which URL was that?

There's too many times, in too many apps, and too many places on your OSX desktop that you need that bookmarked web info NOW! Safari Menu surfs in and offers the solution! This great little app puts all of your Safari bookmarks in your Menu Bar so that no matter where you are or what you are doing on your computer, they are just a click away. You can go to any URL or search the Google search engine. And you're gonna love this part: It's FREE! What more can you ask?!! Ten toes up Safari Menu!

Check out this great little app from the smart folks at e dot software. GO!

SOW NEGLECTED

What did the neurotic pig say to the farmer?

You take me for grunted.

NOT QUITE PIG LATIN

Howard County Police officers still write their reports by hand, and the data is entered later by a computer tech into their database. One theft report stated that a farmer had lost 2,025 pigs. Thinking that to be an error, the tech called the farmer directly."

Is it true Mr. (Smith) that you lost 2,025 pigs?" she asked.

"Yeth," lisped the farmer.

Being a Howard County girl herself, the tech entered: "Subject lost 2 sows and 25 pigs."

You'll have to use half a brain on this one!

GETTIN' OLD

The nice thing about being senile is you can hide your own Easter eggs.

WindowsAppleBoch To The Drawing Board - Alex Salkever of BusinessWeek has suggested that Apple counter-act Microsoft’s purchase of Virtual PC by developing Bochs open-source software that would emulate the Windows desktop. He believes that if "Apple could weave Bochs into the operating system" and run Windows code in an upcoming version of OSX, they could compete more equally with Microsoft. Now that, my friends, would be the ultimate Switcher bait. - from MacMinute

New Napster In The Near Future - Roxio, maker of Toast, has plans to relaunch Napster sometime this year. They purchased Napster's assets and kept the creator of Napster, Shawn Fanning, as a consultant. After legalizing all the details, Roxio plans to reopen Napster as a service in which customers can pay for downloads separately or through monthly subscriptions. What was that about a Led Balloon? - from Yahoo

NOSE!Clothes Your Nose - A new technology called Sensory Perception Technologies (SPT) is allowing manufacturers to make scented clothing. "Tiny droplets in miniature waterproof particles" are weaved into the fabric, and whenever those particles are rubbed against or moved they give off a scent. The particles may consist of things such as "moisturizers, deodorants, (and) fragrances." In addition, the fabric is washable. That ought to help my smell...my sense of smell that is! - from Excite

Desktops | Community News | On The Net | Bananas

At The Top - It's time to enjoy another Wednesday Desktop Edition here at the ole Monkie Zoo! The great Submissions keep coming in, and we even got the Main Monkie off his butt and working on some new 3-D rendered work. Till then, let's gander at all the latest in the Desktop Department. Let's roll!

New GOO!

New Desktops - This cool collection of Desktops was actually kind of hard to categorize. Nevertheless, it's an awesome set. So, let's get to diggin'!

3 Dimensions - Our sole entry into the 3-D Department this week is another amazing work from Terraholic's Martin Schulte called Heli Skiing. This is one of the many wonderful works from Martin's gallery made with terragen, a photorealistic landscape generator. It is now available for public beta testing for the Mac platform. YAY!

For ColumbiaDesktops - Rick Weiss, the first of 2 of our latest contributors, adds For Columbia to our Galleries. This beautiful pic was taken with his digital camera and pays tribute to the crew members lost in the Space Shuttle Columbia. Note the illumination of the flag even against the dark sky...wow!

Next in line of new coming contributors is Stefan Poulos sporting the desktop titled Aristotle. This beautiful work from the collections of PoulosDesign reminds us that "We are what we repeatedly do...Think Different!" I second that motion!

Widggie DesktopLong time no see from Eye9design's Patrick O'Kelly! He seems to have returned, well, from another planet with Widggie Desktop - a very nice platter to serve up your Widgets made with Konfabulator! Mmm, mmm good! Quite the tasty treat from Sir Patrick. Just keep an arm's length from his laboratories! =)

The founder of EA Design, Mr. Ed Allen, privileges us with another of his fine works titled Further Down the Spiral. Ed always manages to give things a new twist and still keeps it simple. No clutter here. Just excellence at its best!

RadialTalk about your addiction to Aqua! Radial from PlasmaDesign gives you your Aqua GUI fix and then some! This outstanding selection from Rob Randtoul barely touches the surface of the eye-popping work you will find in his collections. A must-have piece!

Adding a bit of dessert to this fine selection of Desktops is Apple Galaxy from Michele Bugliaro. Michele's eyes are always peeled on what is on the other side and gives us a good glance into the future skies of Apple. Enjoy!

Thanks Department --

Rick, Stefan, Patrick, Ed, Rob, Michele, and Martin...

You're the best! THANKS!!

Have a piece you want to display?

Check out our Submissions guidelines and then send it in!

Mandolux - Mando Gomez adds 2 new selections to the vast collections of Mandolux. The latest is a new Technosis/Anthraxis desktop titled Guam. In addition, a new Money 2K2 named Australia. These new works are just a click away at Mandolux!

EA Design - The Pixel Meister of EA Design, Mr. Ed Allen, has been squashed by an oversized elephant carrying a mindless Monkie. Ummmm, you're not buying that. Well, fact of the matter is, Mr. Allen IS very sick and has "been advised to do absolutley nothing for 2 weeks." So, things will be on hold for a tad bit at EA Design. We wish you a SPEEDY recovery and hope you get well soon.

Powerbook Press - Mike Wendland of the Detroit Free Press wrote in his column that "the 12-inch PowerBook G4 is the finest laptop I've ever used. I like it so much that I bought it." He says that what won him over was the size of the powerbook, though he would suggest a lighted keyboard as an improvement. The 12-inch powerbook is shipping and starts at $1,799. - from Apple and Freep

Back In The Backyard - Paul McCartney held a surprise birthday concert for Wendy Whitworth, executive producer of "Larry King Live." Whitworth’s husband arranged it for $1 million.
