Chitwood, and EA Design!
Stop back Wednesday for plenty of News, GUI, and Fun with
the next edition of MacMonkies.
Money! - Here's a nickel to chew on: If you had a million
dollars to blow, you could spend $1,000 a day for one thousand
days. That's every day for 2.73 YEARS! Whoa!
Now, think about this: Bill Gates is said to be worth 58.7
BILLION dollars (AFTER the taxes he doesn't pay) according to
Forbes.com.
If my Monkie Math is correct*, then you can spend spend a grand
a day, everyday, for 160,821.9 years! You would literally die
trying!
*The Math - 58,700,000,000 dollars ÷
1,000 per day = 58,700,000 days. Then divide 58,700,000 days
by 365 days per year = 160, 821.9. Please let me know
if this is not correct.

TOP NEWS
- It seems the artistic rebels at EA
Design have been at it again. Not only have they updated
their site with 12 new artistic pieces, but apparently they have
been finding their way into unsuspecting sites and etching their
mark with a shameless plug!
Gads! Some people will stop at nothing! Please hurry over
and check out their site
before this thing spreads too much! =)

April 19, 2002
Software Updates - Symantec
updates Norton
AntiVirus to version 8.01. The update can be downloaded using
the Live Update feature in the software.
The Mozilla Organization
has updated their open-source web browser to version 1.0rc1.
New Icon Section! - Just
wanted to remind everyone to stop by the new Icon
section that we added on Wednesday! The new section is doing
very well! We will be adding "short-cut" navigation
to this and all sections soon to better serve your clicking needs!
Thanks to all for the support!
Monkie Honor - We are pleased to share that MacMonkies
has been selected by The
Iconfactory to receive its "Favorite Sites" icon
in their DeskBase.
The Iconfactory gives this special designation to sites
that they feel "offer users high quality or unique content."
To The Iconfactory and all our readers and contributors, a
great big THANK YOU! You
truly Make the Difference!
April 18, 2002

customers to send feedback if they "encounter problems or
have questions about this version." You can access this
new feature simply by going to the iTools
section at Apple and the Beta Webmail is on the bottom left of
the page.
Updated

At The Top
In The News!
- The Iconfactory
just can't get enough of that sweet stuff! MacUser
has this to say about the Factory:
Pixelpalooza - the annual 'oscars' of the icon world
- is almost upon us and the preliminary candidates for the Mac
OS X award have been announced. So if you want to jazz up OS
X with some rather gorgeous 128x128 icons hop over to the Iconfactory
and download at will.
How cool! And speaking of Pixelpalooza,
today's the day to learn the results of Pixelpalooza
2002. Get on over there and see the winners list! Congrats
to all!
MonkieNews!
ICONS NOW OPEN! - To add
to your Monkie barrel 'o fun, we've added a new section to our
GUI Department - Icons!
Yuppers! This was the first thing that got the main Monkie heavy
into Mac years ago. Kicking off the funstivities are the three
fabulous Icon Creators - Patrick O'Kelly, Dan Flax, and Scott
Chitwood. Let's look!
iPuddles of Fun! - From
master craftsman of Eye9design
- Patrick O'Kelly - we get our first blast of fun with iPuddles
and MercuryLensX! Awesome stuff!
Class Act
- Dan Flax, GUI editor of ResExcellence
and the man behind Flax
Creations, always adds a touch of class with sets like Handy Icons and Borgcons
Vol. 1.
Byting Edge! - Scott Chitwood, former Rampant
Mac Jack-of-all-trades, master of many, brings you the R1E set along with the scrumptious set
of Apple Bytes. But watch out for Grandma!
Check 'em out!
In The Gallery - Our rather
regular group of Monkie misfits have put together a fine selection
of desktop GUI goods for you this week. Let's peeky!
More Fun For You - MacMonkies
Software Junkie Kara Kelly and head
Monkie Butt Bradford Wiles played
a tad bit of tag team sending this collaborative piece back and
forth to come up with Happy Day!
And of course, it plops down in both the Fun
section and the Desktop area.
Desktop Blues?
- Well, your desktop will but won't be blue after adding
Blue Transfer by Ed Allen of EA Design! You'll figure
it out!
Fantastic 3-D! - This week's pic from Andy
Moraitis - Give Me Strength - is
perhaps his finest work to date!
From Neil Roberts
comes a piece of rather deep subject matter (pun intended) called
Canyon.
Alan Sherwood, also of EA
Design fame, adds this masterful piece called Hands.
Daydreaming is probably what Scott Chitwood does best as he
enters in with Daydream #5.
And finally, from MacMonkies come another ponderous
piece titled The Harvest.
Enjoy!
Have a piece you want to display?
Check out our Submissions guidelines
and then send it in!
Miscellaneous Monkie Junk
- Portions of next week's update may be from the road as
a bass playing gig at the UNC Jazz Fest calls for a trip to Greeley
Colorado! Please chimp with us in case of chimplications!
Updated 4:30
AM MST
All Apologies - It wasn't noticed till now that though
we made the newest Gallery updates
available several hours ago, the newest 3-D
Page had not been uploaded. My apologies! =)

News
IHeartNY: Xicons - The
ever talented Matthew Bice of IHeartNY:
Xicons, has updated with 3 new icon
sets since we last reported: DragThing, Dock Lawn Additions,
and Genetic Experiment Gone Awry!
Watch out for the blue hair!
Now, which one was the one gone "awry?"
Ethereal Creations - The latest from Ethereal
Creations: "Four desktops in our New Releases section
and two additional desktops in our Guest Art Gallery. The site
news page has also been updated with our latest happenings and
there's a fresh article in The View From Here for your reading
enjoyment. Kick back and relax as you peruse their latest offerings."
EA Design - There's still time to check out the 10 recent
additions over at EA Design.
Top it off with a nice way to relieve stress with the "Stress
Relief Dartboard" and you have your day well rounded!
DV Graphics - Whoa! DV
Graphics has updated with a fine set of icons called Glass
VI!
These are way cool icons - just what the Monkie doctor
ordered!
Xicons -
Have you checked out the icons recently added to Xicons?
Some of them are good enough to eat! Like Limewire by
Jon Helgason and Wintergreen TicTacs by Mike
Matas. Check out these and all the latest stuff at Xicons!

News On The Net...
Hackers Slack - A
group known as the "X-Team" in Argentina hacked into
the Supreme Court's web page, but were found innocent by the
judge in charge of the case. The judge expressed concern that
there is a void in the law when it comes to digital crime. "The
judge ruled that hacking didn't harm things, people or animals
and thus was not covered in the law," explained Antonio
Mille, a Microsoft lawyer. This makes hacking in Argentina legal
by default. And what's wrong with this picture?
- from Netscape
Against All Odds Couple - Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth
are planning a tour - together! You heard right! Hagar and Roth recently met
for the first time and Hagar said that he was "blown away
at how well they got along together" as are we! If all goes
well, Roth and Hagar will co-headline on the Song For Song, The
Heavyweight Champs Of Rock'N'Roll tour. Tour dates
run from the end of May to the end of June.
Adding to the craziness from the heat, Van-Halen bassist Michael
Anthony is said to be recording a pair of songs with Sammy and
Journey guitarist Neal Schon. Now if this
ain't the unexpected journey from Weirdsville itself! - from
Billboard.com
Can I Get A Witness? - On Tuesday, The Department of Justice
(DOJ) gave the go-ahead to the states pursuing harsher penalties
against Microsoft. Out of 18 states, nine states settled in the
Microsoft antitrust case. Microsoft has tried to get the court
to drop the case of the remaining nine states, but "The
non-settling states may pursue relief" according to the
DOJ. Microsoft called it's first witness, the CEO of AMD, to
the witness stand on Tuesday. - from MacUser
Monkey See! - A British surgeon recently performed eye
surgery on a gorilla at Bristol Zoo Gardens, in west England. The
gorilla, Romina, is twenty one years old and was born blind.
Jenny Watts, the surgeon, performed surgery to remove the cataract
from one of Romina's eyes and replace it with a silicon lens.
This is the same way human cataracts are treated. The results
have been good, as Romina has been interacting more and more
with her companions, and a second surgery is planned to treat
her other eye. - from Yahoo
Off Your Rocker - A 63-year-old Italian woman reportedly
laughed herself unconscious while watching television. The woman,
from Porto Empedocle, Sicily, began laughing while watching a
comedy, fell off her chair and lost consciousness. Doctors treated
her for nervous laughter by reviving her and giving her sedatives.
Sounds like this IS a laughing matter!
from Ananova

Have you Heard?
Mac OSX Update - With the release of Mac OSX Server
version 10.1.4 having just been released last night, it would
seem evident that the corresponding version "for the rest
of us" is just around the corner - perhaps by the end other
the week. The buzz about is telling us that improved security
enhancements, improvement for PPP connections, and improved system
responsiveness are to be expected in the up-and-coming release.
WWDC - Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, will open up the festivities
at the Worldwide Developers Conference in May. Jobs promises
"a sneak peek at the next release of Mac OS X, code named
Jaguar" during his keynote presentation, given at 10am.
The conference, held on May 6, 2002, will offer 120 sessions
on Mac OS X, and will also feature hands-on labs, an Exhibitor
Fair and the Apple Design Awards.

Just Plain Nutz!
TAXATION
Ever wonder why the IRS calls it, "Form 1040?"
Because for every $50 you earn, you get 10 and they get 40.
YOU WORK FOR THE GOVERNMENT WHEN:
The process becomes more important than the product.
You don't see anything wrong with attending a meeting on a
subject you know nothing about.
You feel you contributed to the meeting just by being there.
You stop raising issues/problems because you know you will
be the one answering them.
You fly first class across the country to attend a conference
with 100+ people to discuss the fact that the project does not
have enough money.
You work for an acronym, on an acronym, and your job title is
an acronym.
You understand the rationalization of an acronym composed
of acronyms.
You know that the location of a meeting is directly related
to its importance. (1) A meeting at Fort Hood requires a subordinate
or a contractor (2) The same meeting at Lake Tahoe requires your
personal attention.
You've sat at the same desk for 3 years, done the same thing
for 3 years, but have had 3 different business cards.
POLITICS AS USUAL
Late one night a mugger wearing a ski mask jumped into a path
of a well-dressed man and stuck a gun in his ribs "give
me your money," he demanded. Indignant, the affluent man
replied, "you can't do this I am a United States congressman!"
"In that case," replied the mugger, "give me MY
money."
CONFUCIUS SAY
Confucius say: Boy who brings ladder to school must be in
High School.
DID YOU KNOW?
It is impossible to lick your elbow.
A crocodile can't stick it's tongue out.
A shrimp's heart is in their head.
Talk about taking the fun away!
KID PRAYERS
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us some e-mail. Amen.
And forgive us our trash baskets as we forgive those who put
trash in our baskets.
Lord, if you can't make me a better boy, it's okay. I'm having
a real good time like I am.
Our Father, who does art in heaven, Howard is his name.
MONEY TALKS
Money talks,
I can't deny.
I heard it once,
It said good-bye.
Bravery
One summer evening, during a violent thunderstorm, a mother
was tucking her small son into bed. She was about to turn off
the light when he asked with a tremor in his voice, "Mommy
will you sleep with me tonight?"
The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug. "I can't
dear, I have to sleep in daddy's room."
A long silence was broken at last by his shaking little voice,
"The big sissy."
Hokey Pokey
Larry LaPrise, who wrote the song "Hokey Pokey,"
died at age 83.
It was extremely difficult for the family to keep him in the
casket.
They'd put his left leg in and... well, you know the rest.
Have a good line or two that would put
a smile on an Ape Face? Check out MacMonkies' Submission
Policy and drop us a line!

Odds and Ends

Just Curious |
|
What do you do when you realize everything
you hold as true may not be as it seems?
Perhaps, go back, find the essentials,
find the simple truth - as complex as simplicity seems - and
LET GO.
Now, get down, get funky (not really),
and pray.
Better watch out! You might just find
what you were looking for.
Be ready to make a difference!
Think!
