Odds and Ends

LaptopParts Is Parts? - Those parts of the system that you can hit with a hammer are called hardware. Those program instructions that you can only curse at are called software.

Life - Life is like a movie -- since there aren't any commercial breaks, you have to get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of it.

Odds and Ends

Paper ClipClip On This - The paper clip was patented by Norwegian inventor Johan Vaaler in 1899. Because Norway had no patent law at the time, he had to travel to Germany where he received his patent in 1900. His U.S. patent was granted in 1901.

Icons and Desktops | Community News | Bananas

Smile...Even if it HURTS!At The Top - Well well! The week has wound around the world and sped over my head toward a special serving of GUI goodies for this week's Freaked Out Friday GUI Smorgasbord Edition! Never heard of this before? Neither have we...It's a first! We've got New Icons, New Desktops, Community News, and Bananas too. Let's get down to business and let the ol' GUI eyes start droolin'!

New GOO!

New Icons - This week's quick pixel fix features 2 New Icons Sets to tickle your taste buds with the artistic excellence from two of the Web's finest iconists. Let's dig in!

miXmonkiesmiX the piX - Master miXer Hein Mevissen brings a great deal of honor to the Monkie hut with a made-for-MacMonkies icon set titled miXmonkies. This awesome pair of pixel pleasers is based on the Brushed series from miX the piX and sports a brushed MacMonkies logo along with a super cool Monkie Link Button. I can't begin to express how pleased this Monkie is for Hein's generosity and amazing abilities. Thanks Hein!

Yazoo Switchwbc icons - The great Yazoo of wbc icons pumps up your icon blood pressure with another awe-inspiring entry titled Yazoo Switch. This great set of 29 Switch Plate Icons offers an awesome selection of System based "switchers." And since Yazoo offers this iPleasing set for both Mac and XP fans at the wbc home, perhaps our PC friends will be inspired to make the real switch!

New Desktops - How can anyone go the week without a dose of fine Desktops? So as to fix up your Desktop desires, we enter 3 New Desktop works from 3 outstanding desktop designers.

Snapshot3-D Rendered - Ed Allen continues to amaze your eyes with one of his latest, greatest desktops from EA Design. Clearing the clutter from your viewing experience, Snapshot adds the simple beauty to your desktop that Ed is well known for!

LegomanMakin' the move in the mechanical age is desktop designer Jack Juliussen of Prevision - Wallpaper Take Away. Legoman is a superb piece of craftsmanship by Jack. And let me tell ya, the Lego Man in this pic is capable of kickin' some serious Monkie butt if you think otherwise! =)

ForeignDesktops - Always in search of something different and new, Bob Wiley offers his latest with Foreign. Bob began this desktop quest with a Bryce render, but then worked with it extensively in Photoshop. The result is definitely one of his best pieces of landscape ever, abstract or otherwise! Enjoy!

Thanks Department --

Bob, Yazoo, Hein, Ed, and Jack...

I tip my Monkie hat to your incredible abilities!

THANK YOU!!

Just Plain Nuts - R. Westby

EYE TO EYE

What did the right eye say to the left eye?

Just between you and me, something smells.

E-ADDICT (Part II)

You know you are an e-mail addict when...

1. You get a tattoo that reads "This body best viewed with Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher."

2. You name your children Eudora, Mozilla and Dotcom.

3. You turn off your modem and get this awful empty feeling, like you just pulled the plug on a loved one.

4. You move into a new house and decide to Netscape before you landscape.

AIR AFFAIR

Why did the man drive his car off the cliff?

He wanted to test his air brakes.

SIDE OF COW

What do you call a cow with two legs shorter than the other?

Lean beef.

Monkie News

Fit to Be Tied!!!!Pixel Possibilities - G'Day folks! What a crazy week this has been. And since the madness has spun circles around the Monkie Maestro, there may very well be another GUI Update in the works for Friday. Now mind the mindless, this is only a pixel possibility at the moment. But the chances are good to see a couple Desktops and a couple Icon Sets. No money back guarantees! =) So for tomorrow, slip by the Place of Monkie if you please and see if the Monkie has had a chance to sneeze.

Network News

the WebWorld - BeanHead

Gates and Brokaw: Common Criminals - Just because a person is book smart doesn't meanRobber they always show them self to be the smartest person in the world. As a classic example, computer guru Bill Gates and broadcaster Tom Brokaw met for an interview last week in Watertown, South Dakota, ordered cappuccinos and walked out without paying for them. Watertown's cafe forgave their debt, but Brokaw took the high road back to his home state and went the extra mile by paying them above and beyond the cash for the coffee. Sheesh! I better not EVEN comment on this one! - from Cnews

BulletBrazilian Officer Beats The Odds - Talk about hard-headed! An officer in Brazil didn't quite bite the bullet, but it was close enough. Officer Santos was shot in the forehead within a range of five feet while trying to arrest someone, and the bullet simply lodged between his skin and his skull. He didn't even have a scuff or a scar on his skull to show for it! It is unknown why the bullet stopped, but officer Santos is now known as 'Steel Forehead' all over town. - from Ananova

Boot Panel | Community News | On The Net | Bananas

More At The Top - So...When you take the time to make time for extra time, what do you find? EXTRA TIME! Arrrrrgh!!!! I scheduled personal time to go hut hunting, but the old "running into the dead end" syndrome has kicked in. So where's the Desktops? Though I did manage to have extra time, there just wasn't sufficient time to do a full GUI Update.

All of this translated means that there is time for a mid-week Boot Panel Edition! This includes a great new boot panel submission, Community News, Software News On The Net, and a bit of Bananas. Oh yeah...Mindy Weaver of The Iconfactory really isn't 167 years old. But she sure is a sweetheart. I just hope Ged is not reading this! =) Anyhoo...time to boogie!

It also adds updated iMovie style plastic buttons to Quicktime Player 6.2, in Aqua blue or in Graphite, as well as the new iTunes slider button. You best get your mouse buttons in gear and get this great GUI fix at Happicon!

EA Design - The Guvna Ed Allen sends word of more great works to the collections of EA Design. Newly added to the cabinet are 4 new Desktops and 2 new 2-D pieces. As I mentioned yesterday, this week's Updates are on hold, or at least they will be made only when time allows due to moving. But, as your can see, time allowed for a tad bit of Monkie Madness. I don't know about the rest of the the week, but I will keep pluggin' away when possible. With that said, let's get to it!

Burning CD by MacMonkiesDVD Disposables - Disney is piloting a program to sell self-destructive DVDs in August 2003. The idea is to profit from DVD renters by eliminating the hassle of taking time out of their busy schedules to return them. Disposable DVDs will be sold in stores and, once opened, will chemically rust themselves until they are unreadable. This will take about two days, during which time they can be copied like any other DVD, but after that they are not good for anything but the dumpster. Sounds like Mission Impossible to me. - from CNET

Monkey Spins Winning Wheel- Canada's latest celebrity, Maggie the monkey, hasSpin It! become famous for choosing the Anaheim Mighty Ducks to win the Stanley Cup for ice hockey. Maggie has maneuvered her way onto the sports channel (TSN) by spinning a wheel showing the names of hockey teams. Whether by mind or matter, Maggie landed the arrow on the Anaheim logo every time. It seems the monkey was their good luck charm, because The Ducks started out as the underdogs until Maggie came along. Wish this Monkie was so lucky! - from ABC

Monkie News

New Monkie Poll - Time for the weekly bit of Monkie Madness we call the Monkie Poll! And this means you are in just the right place for last week's Poll results and this week's new question. Shall we?

Monkie PollIn last week's poll, we asked: How do you wake up in the morning? Here's how you responded (as of press time):

Body Clock 33% - So you have a Timex sewn into your ear. Lucky you.

Alarm Clock 27% - You mean you're normal?

What’s morning? 27% - Up all night, sleep all day...

Someone else wakes me up 8% - Yeah, if I had a maid, I might actually sleep!

Bucket of water 5% - Gads! I envy you!!!

This poll really took me by surprise. I really figured that at least 80% of you would use an alarm clock. So, either you are of a select group, or you like messin' with my mind as much as I do yours! And then there's those who are privileged with a bucket...Hmmmmmm.

And now for this week's Monkie Poll. Now that we know that you're alive and squirmin' and your eyes do open on occasion, what do you do after the "daily grind?" Thus, this week's question: After work, what do you do first? Take a little click, look to your right, and toss your vote. RELAX!

WRONG STRAW

At a circus in a nearby town a man stood thoughtfully looking at the camels. Then he picked up a straw, placed it on the camel's back and waited. Nothing happed, "Wrong straw," he muttered and walked away.

PRIME TIME MATERIAL

Father: Son at your age, Winston Churchill used be up and out for his morning walk at 5 a.m.

Son: Dad, at your age, he had become the Prime Minister of England.

LAW OF THE JUNGLE

Two guys were hiking through the jungle when they spotted a tiger who looked both hungry and fast. One of the guys reached into his pack and pulled out a pair of Nikes. His friend looked at him.

''Do you really think those shoes are going to make you run faster than that tiger?''

''I don't have to run faster than that tiger,'' his friend replied. ''I just have to run faster than you.''
