Thought
for the Day - The grass always seems
greener on the other side of the Monkie fence. But so one is
one's attitude ever green with envy. Consider these envious quotes:
Envy is a waste of time.
- Anon
Envy is the art of counting the other fellow's
blessings instead of your own.
- Harold Coffin
Envy is a symptom of lack of appreciation
of our own uniqueness and self worth. Each of us has something
to give that no one else has.
- Elizabeth O'Connor
Ideal Working Conditions
- Ya know, I can't really complain about the working conditions
here at MacMonkies. I have the latest in Apple technology, high
speed internet, and a wonderful office with everything at arm's
reach. And I mean EVERYTHING! Click
here to have a look!
July 20,
2002
Say What?
- And now for today's bright idea:
Q: How many Monkies does it take to screw in
a light bulb?
A: Only one, but it sure takes a heck of
a lot of light bulbs.
Beta News
- America Online has updated the AOL for Mac OS X software to
Build 14D. New in this build:
|
- The WWW Preferences have an improved
look and new functionality
- The AOL for Mac OS X software

your favorite Mac web personalities in everybody's favorite series,

of Mac mouths! We're not in the LEAST bit "prejudice"

Another natural beauty from the many fine
works of EMK Design
is organic medium. This
peaceful piece will blend in nicely as your desktop backdrop
and compliment your computer experience.
Polishing off the Desktop Department
is Mr. Scott Chitwood of the reestablished Rampant
Mac. Scott brings us Art
Desk no9, which is a unique blend of...a nice
combination...er, umm...well, how DOES one describe this "thing"
from Mr. Chitwood's over-achieving mental abilities to carry
out Steve Jobs' "command" to Think Different?!! Let
your eyes decide as they are sure to enjoy this great piece.
Have fun!
Defining Dimensions
In 3-D -Melissa from MAJArch
Studios adds some finesse with a "glimmerous" Bryce
rendered piece from The Studios titled Shimmer.
Alan Sherwood brings us another ponderous
piece titled Screams of Silent Victims from the galleries
of EA Design. From Alan:
A piece tweaked in Photoshop,
to show the people that have no say, that, although differing
in opinion, cannot make a difference. The oppressed peoples,
who have no vote, no job, no hope, no peace, no rest. Inspired
by Rage Against The Machine.
Though a portrait of those with no voice,
Alan speaks loud and clear with another excellent work.
Finishing up the Desktop festivities are
three new Monkie works from the head Monkie himself, Mean Mr.
Monkie. Sprucing up the place is a fun and fuzzy work from an
orderly mess titled Organized Chaos
(there really is a method to the madness hiding in there).
Next in line is a little music in the style
of Minuet and Trio.
And finally, things really are not as they
seem in a world of never ending compromise as we present to you:
Politics As Usual.
SPECIAL THANKS
To:
Melissa, Dan, Scott, Paul,
Sam, Evan, Alan, Hein, and Todd
-
AMAZING work!
Ten toes up to all of you!
THANK YOU!

Behind The Scenes: Macs Are Everywhere!
- The new NBC "Dog Eat Dog"
reality show has Macs all over the place behind the
scenes. Michael French, production supervisor, and Russ Landau,
composer, use DMOD software to transfer files quickly and securely
to each other's Macs. Landau uses a Power Mac G4 1GHz , 533MHz
G4, PowerBook G4, iBook and a 9600 (as a server). French is equipped
with a Power Mac G4, as is the entire post production staff of
the show. - from MacCentral
iBook Business - Karin
Spitzer knows what's good for business. The 27-year-old runs
her own successful business using her 12-inch iBook, selling
items such as bracelets using a slogan that she came up with:
"No time for...". Spitzer uses her iBook to design
the products using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Quark's
QuarkXPress layout tool. Based in Brooklyn, New York, the business
is internet based, her iBook being her window to the world. - from Wired
The Boss Is Back: Springsteen Record Soon Released - Bruce
Springsteen has teamed up with the E Street Band, recording
their first studio recording in fifteen years. Springsteen was
inspired to return by the events of September 11, and all 15
songs on the up and coming CD are related to the event. The Boss

US$425 before February 28, and US$525 after February 28. - from MacCentral
Who Let The Dogs Out? - Bangkok has been running rampant
with stray dogs. As
a result, authorities have started a four month campaign to implant
pet dogs with microchips containing their owners' information.
They are hoping this will discourage people from letting their
dogs run stray. Owners will be required to bring their dogs in
to update information on the microchips every two years. - from Yahoo

Have you Heard?
Macworld Expo In New York - With the MWNY beginning today, predictions regarding
future improvements to the Apple platform are suspended as everyone
waits in bated breathe for the "real thing." It's time
to wait to see how many "predictions" come true. Here's
a quick rundown on what one might expect:
Jobs is expected to announce all the latest
Apple products, possibly including a revised 17" iMac, a
20 GB iPod, an updated iTunes, and the re-branding of iTools
to ".Mac" (dot Mac). Not expected to be announced are
any "speed-bumps" in the Power Mac line up. However,
an in depth demonstration of the soon-to-come incarnation of
OSX, code-named Jaguar, is expected to be delivered during the
Keynote address.
Keep your Bananas peeled and we'll keep
ya posted!

Carbon Copy Cloner! - One way in which OS9 and OSX are NOT created equal
is their drag and drop copying abilities. Try making a copy of
your OSX Operating System by just dragging it to another partition
or disk. No go! You're certain to have a bunch of files that
LOOK like they're "all there," but try booting from
this new copy. Just ain't gonna happen!
However, the genius behind Carbon
Copy Cloner changes everything! This fine piece
of software by Mike Bombich of Bombich
Software "assists you in moving your entire Mac OS X
installation or selected folders," maintaining permissions
and ownership. You won't be stuck with a System that won't boot!
Saved my Monkie butt BIG time!
What's more is you choose the price! Carbon
Copy Cloner is donation-ware (uncrippled shareware). Though
you can use it for free, you're encouraged to help support all
the great work behind the great app.
If you need to change locations of your

Odds and Ends
True Success!
To laugh often and much; to win the respect
of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn
the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of
false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one
life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the
meaning of success.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Which End's Up!
God gave us two ends - one to sit on and
one to think with. Success depends on which one you use. Head
you win, tail you lose.
