Weekend Update!

September 15, 2002

DV Graphics - Today is a great day for all you DVG fans! DV Graphics has released another installment to the hit icon set, Switchers. The 4th installment of the icons, Switchers Phase 2, adds all the new Switchers posted by Apple last week. Originally released in June 2002, the Switchers icons have quickly become DVG's most popular set. A keen eye will spot traces of Switchers icons all over the place, including product screen shots, web sites, Apple.com, and the Macworld NY 2002 keynote. Get yourself over to DV Graphics and check 'em out!

Smirk of the Day: See the Light! - Through the pitch-black night, the captain sees a light dead ahead on a collision course with his ship. He sends a signal: "Change your course 10 degree east."

The light signals back: "Change yours, 10 degrees west."

Angry, the captain sends: "I'm a navy captain! Change your course, sir!"

"I'm a seaman, second class," comes the reply. "Change your course, sir."

Now the captain is furious. "I'm a battleship! I'm not changing course!"

There is one last reply: "I'm a lighthouse. Your call." OOOOOPS

TNT: DYN-O-MITE TIPS AND TRICKS by Paul Sahner

My Computer Just Crashed...But At Least I Have A Schedule!

On Tuesday, Apple released their new iCal calendar application. And it's buggy to say the least. Yeah, the potential is there. It's an absolutely stunning app as far as the GUI goes. But perhaps this SHOULD be branded 1.0b for beta. Reports of crashes and lack of features have been pouring in. Mainly, the lack of common sense in the way the buttons work: Some function, others confuse the user, and sometimes they just don't work at all. NOW, when the app DOES work, it is stunning. Napster Now Old News - "Napster was here." Here lies the good-bye statement on the web site of Napster, Inc., the bankrupt peer-to-peer music trading network. Last week a judge blocked the sale of Napster to Bertelsmann, a German media company who helped Napster through the tough times of it's lawsuit. With Napster's assets up for sale at a mere $6 million minimum bid, only networks such as Morpheus and Kazaa are left to carry on the music trading legacy.
Editor's note: The site currently says "NAPSTER: WORK IN PROGRESS." - from MacCentral

Seeing Eye Mice -
Mouse and PadA mouse for the visually impaired has been developed by scientists at Glasgow University. The mouse is deemed as sort of an electric braille, because it vibrates and "goes bump" to give users tactile clues. The mouse works in conjunction with a graph which sends out varying pitches and sounds. It is believed that the mouse can be useful for sighted people as well as the visually impaired. - from Yahoo

Have you Heard?

9 (Not) To Boot - As we mentioned in August, word was out that future Mac models would be rendered incapable of booting in OS9. No longer just the buzz, Apple announced yesterday that models to be released in 2003 will no longer be able to strap in to OS9 and boot up. Apple cites that "there are nearly 4,000 native applications now available for Mac OS X." With that in mind and expectations that OSX will become the "fastest operating system transition in recent history," OS9 will be limited to running in the Classic Environment on the 2003 models.
