Rampant Mac:
Think Way Different
- There's only one person I know who can boast about thinking
way different and actually get away with it. And that would be
one Scott Chitwood of the Rampant
Mac Ranch. Scott has made it out of his rocking chair
and managed to make quite the update to the GUI Galleries at
Rampant Mac. Just as our Monkie Bird
suspected, three new desktops - Stealing Aqua, Think
Way Different and Spanish Moss - have joined six others
from the RM Archives. Top it off with the resurfacing of the
Cool Links page, and you're in for some serious fun. Get
your clicking fingers warmed up and make your way to Rampant
Mac!
Smirk of the
Day - An
attorney went into a bar for a Martini and found himself beside
a scruffy-looking drunk who kept mumbling and studying something
in his hand. He leaned closer while the drunk held the tiny object
up to the light, slurring, "Well, it looks plastic."
Then he rolled it between his fingers, adding, "But it feels
like rubber." Curious, the attorney asked, "What
do you have there?
The drunk replied,
"I don't know, but it looks like plastic and feels like
rubber."
The attorney responded,
"Let me take a look."
So the drunk handed
it over and the lawyer rolled between his thumb and fingers,
then examined it closely by sniffing and licking it. "Yeah,
it does look like plastic and feel like rubber, has no significant
smell or taste, I sure don't know what it is. Where did you get
it?"
The drunk replied,
"Out of my nose."

Get your monkie fingers limbered up and stress

At The Top
Microsoft
Biffs It Again!
- It's a spider...it's a bat...NO! It's a butterfly! NO!! It's
just another failed Microsoft ad campaign. You might remember
how Microsoft recently tried and failed copying Apple
with their
own version of the popular Switcher
ads. Last Thursday, New Yorkers got a taste of Microsoft's latest
blunder with hundreds of MSN butterflies all over "sidewalks,
doorways, traffic signals and stop lights." Microsoft had
placed butterfly decals everywhere to promote their service,
MSN 8 Internet. The wise old owls of New York City demanded that
Microsoft stop the "illegal guerrilla advertising campaign"
and got their claws on fifty Microsoft dollars. Microsoft cooperated
and issued a formal apology. Gee,
isn't that nice of them.

MacFreaks Dress
Up As Ellen Feiss
- Those who do not have a costume picked out for the Halloween festivities might
consider dressing up as Apple's favorite switcher, Ellen Feiss.
That is exactly what the MacFreak
community in Holland did. 250 MacFreak members got together and
held an Ellen Feiss look-alike contest. Too bad that, according
to the MacFreak website, "Every look-alike is a kind of...a
bummer!" Take a peek at the look-alikes here. - from Wired
Mc
For Mac - Paul McCartney helped advance technology through
his new DVD Back In The US. He was concerned because Mac
users could not enter the link to his "secret" website
via the DVD, so he had his associates "get on the phone"
and "start making enquiries." Now the DVD works in
Macs and PCs, and McCartney and Steve Jobs both got a thrill
out of it. Says McCartney, "Steve Jobs is gonna come round
to one of the gigs 'cause he's excited about the thing."

Getting Chipped - The monsters here at MacMonkies reported in February the brewings
of a rice-sized human microchip implant called the Verichip.
Applied Digital Solutions
is now calling everyone to "Get Chipped." For $200,
customers can get chipped with an ID number that can be pulled
up on computers through radio frequencies. Customers decide ahead
of time what information will be stored on the computers. A $50
discount applies to the first 100,000 people who sign up. Sounds like a
chip off the old blockhead to me.

iPods
Right On Target - Ghouls and goblins who stick around will
find a new addition on the shelves at Target
stores this year - Apple's iPod. No need to fear, both the Mac
and PC versions of the popular MP3 player will be available.
Best Buy already sells
the iPod, but Target is a much bigger pumpkin patch, having twice
as many locations as Best Buy. With this move, Apple could sell
up to half a million iPods for the December quarter. I'm dreaming of
an iPod Christmas. - from CNet

McDonalds Customers: Deerly Spooked - No need to wait
for fright night. Customers
at a McDonalds restaurant in Washington D.C. were scared out
of their skins when two deer jumped through the window in the
middle of the day. One deer decided to stick around and check
out the menu while the other jumped back out the window. Authorities
found it a bit spooky because there are normally no deer in that
area and no one knows why they were there. - from Yahoo

BASSES LOADED
He was a mediocre
conductor of a mediocre orchestra. He had been having problems
with the basses; they were the least professional of his musicians.
It was the last performance of the season, Beethoven's 9th Symphony,
which required extra effort from the basses at the end. Earlier
that evening, he found the basses celebrating one of their birthdays
by passing a bottle around. As he was about to cue the basses,
he knocked over his music stand. The sheet music scattered. As
he stood in front of his orchestra, his worst fear was realized;
it was the bottom of the 9th, no score and the basses were loaded.
