Pictures comes Compass,

your way while downloading your copy of Compass!
For all of you DV
Graphics fan-addicts, you can have a cool propaganda piece,

Me! You'll
be totally stylin' with this great retro work from Paul Sahner.
Mr. Monkie Man Wiles adds to the art of

Gas, an Aqua piece that must be viewed in full to be
fully appreciated. And of course, there are other things of the
"understatement" kind that are better left unsaid!
3-D Delectables - Heading up the 3-D Department this week is the
REALLY old but classic piece Alien
Disco. This dusty ole piece comes to us from the newly
organized archives of Rampant
Mac, which is just about as old (and humorous) as Horshack
from Welcome Back Kotter. But unlike the dust of age,
this one really shines!
From the many talents of EA
Designs' Alan Sherwood comes another thought provoking piece
titled Ourselves Together.
Alan adds his thoughts to this piece:
In a different message but similar
style, this piece does show the interaction of different people,
the way we form groups and stick with them and the bindings we
make in those groups.
Alan portrays another concept which most
can certainly relate.
Kara Kelly of Kara-Kelly.com
(where DID she get that oh so original site name?!) brings us

News On The Net...
Please Please Mr. DJ: New iPod DJ's - A New York nightclub called Apt. (pronounced A-P-T) has started an iPod DJ setup that
allows the public to be the DJ. The setup has a mixer in the
middle with a 5 gig iPod on one side which holds 1000 songs,
and a 10 gig iPod on the other side which holds 2000 songs. People
take turns playing sets off the 3000-title song list. "It's
kind of an obvious idea," says Matt Maland, a part-time
DJ. Many people even bring and use their own iPods. - from Wired
Unhappy Mac : iTools Becomes The Latest "Switcher"
- Mac Users are not very happy about the $100 per year
switch to .Mac (or the full priced update for OSX code-named
Jaguar). Not only is this the buzz around Apple User town, but
Apple's very own technical forums have been overloaded with complaints.
iTools users feel betrayed by the switch to .Mac. And faithful
Mac users who have followed OSX from the beta version on up will
have rack up a bill of more than $400. One Mac user summed it
up this way: "This kind of seems like Apple taking advantage
of our unconditional love." Sounds
like many will become "switchers" and make the move
to "yourTools," giving back their mail and web space
to Apple. - from The
Register
Saving Face: Caught In The Scanner! - Catherine Simpson,
an eleven-year old girl, decided it would be interesting to try
to scan her face. But she ran into a problem when one of her
lips got caught in a roller. Her mother couldn't get the lip
out, so she called the fire brigade. "It took one fireman
to hold her and one to roll her lip out," Ms. Simpson said.
Catherine is not planning to scan her face again any time soon.
What do you say to a story
like that?? Is that a face-off? - from Ananova
eMacs: Exceptional Value - When Apple first introduced
the eMac, it was only offered with a CD-RW drive.
Now it can be purchased with either a CD-RW drive for $1099,
a Combo drive (DVD/CD-RW) for $1199, or the latest, a Combo drive
(DVD/CD-RW) for $1483. All the eMacs come with a 700MHz PowerPC
G4, 40GB Ultra ATA drive and a 56K internal modem, but the high-end
model has a bit more memory and also comes with a special stand. - from MacCentral
Monkey Man Spotted: At Least I Think - There are reports
of a monkey man being spotted in India. Police are not taking
the reports seriously, but many of the Hindu people are frightened
by them. Reports say the monkey man looks like a "black
monkey with coloured lights flashing from its eyes." One
resident reported that he had been awakened by "a 5ft-tall
monkey-like animal." Police maintain, however, that no monkeys
have been involved in the attacks. What? Why's everybody lookin' at me?! - from Ananova

Have you Heard?
MWNY: It's A Wrap -
If you didn't get a chance to attend the MWNY keynote address
by Steve Jobs, or at least view it live via QuickTime, you can
slip over to our Expo
Coverage page for a quick rundown of the events. It's always
interesting to compare the predictions by the various rumor and
news sites with the actual announcements or events. This year,
most of the buzz about the future Apple product line was right
on the money. About the only thing that didn't happen that some
sites stuck with right down to the wire, was the arrival of new
Power Macs with improved speed bumps and perhaps new enclosures.
We did, however, see pictures of new enclosures
and specs that are reportedly the real McCoy. Unfortunately,
those pics and specs have been pulled at Apple's request. You
can view what's left of those reports at MacRumors
and MacBidoulle.
We'll be sure to keep you posted on any further developments.

Communication Breakdown! Please Translate
- Ever since the World Wide Web's
inception just a few short years ago, it has become a VERY small
world. But despite the instant communication capabilities with
any web connected person or organization, language barriers still
exist -- or do they? Though not an end-all solution, web Translators
are available and quite functional. Two that come to mind are
the translation devices available at:
Google: Language Tools
Alta Vista: Babelfish
Both of these services are lifesavers when
visiting a site with a foreign language. Though they can be lifesavers
at times, they do have limitations, such as lack of language
availability and limited number of words translated (usually
around 150 words). Also, some places charge a fee for the service.
Regardless, they are certainly better than
nothing and with time are certain to see a number of improvements.

DRAW THE LINE!
A young, not-so-bright boy was hired to
paint a white line down the middle of the highway. On the first
day, he got off to a good start and he painted a white line 7
miles long. The next day, however, he painted a line only 4 miles
long. On the third day, he was down to less than a mile. Finally,
he was asked why he was doing less each day. The boy replied,
"I guess it takes me longer and longer to get back to the
bucket each day."
WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES
After a quarrel, a wife said to her husband,
"You know, I was a fool when I married you."
And the husband replied, "Yes, dear,
but I was in love and didn't notice it."
MY FIRST (AND LAST)
"Excuse me for being nervous,"
the lawman apologized as he slipped the noose over the condemned
man's head. "This is my first hanging."
"Mine too!" the condemned man
replied.

Odds and Ends
Making Enemies
The best way to destroy your enemy is to
make him your friend.
- Abraham Lincoln
Love Me Do
The Beatles' first hit single, Love Me Do,
was released in England on October 4, 1962. It quickly reached
the Top 20, putting them in a position of potentially being a
commercially successful band (Hmmm, you think they made it?).
BUT...did you know that their manager, Brian Epstein, bought
10,000 copies of that single, insuring the single being a best
seller? Very interesting!
Mission Impossible?
All things are possible until they are proved
impossible - and even the impossible may only be so as of now.
- Pearl S. Buck.
Choosing Sides
My concern is not whether God is on our
side; my concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right.
